Sunday Night update.

Weather forecasters are saying we have at least two more days of Santa Ana Winds, which is bad news, and could spread the current fires, and would make a new fire spread quickly.

Once again, no Fireworks at Disneyland, that is three days in a row, and probably two more nights of no shows.

To all those affected by the SoCal fires, best wishes and prayers. Over 250,000 have be displaced due to evacuation orders.

Not the best weekend.

And once again to all Veterans on this Remembrance Day, Never Forget.

Currently there is Unhealthful Air Quality in all the Southland. Winds have already picked up here in Anaheim.

370 structures and 2 dead so far in the Woolsey Fire.

Now, that is a lot less than the Camp Fire in Northern California, but still, not good news.

In reality, something more like in the Palm Desert area, lots of land, a small regional airport that can be expanded, and regional governments that will play ball.

But then, maybe Arizona or Nevada.

The weather in Palm Desert would be unbearable in the summer months although more and more residents are becoming yearlong residents there there are still a large amount of snowbirds that leave the city dead during the summer months.

Palm desert seems a bit to far from any major city, not sure if the area would be able to sustain a Disney resort.

Better option would be closer to the riverside area.
There are several major freeways intersecting that area that would attract people from San Diego county, Orange County and the high desert. There are large areas of land available still all along the 15 freeway as well as the 215 freeway that are large enough for a major resort.

Palm Springs which attracts more tourist and large conventions that would help sustain a resort is pretty much out of the question. Over 1/2 of Palm Springs was developed on land that is actually owned by the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians.
I remember the expression on a friends face when he received a letter being told that he was to vacate the land because a land lease would not be renewed.
It was a complete shock and surprise to him to find out that the 1950's house he purchased and then renovated and expanded to was actually built on land that developers at one point in time years back leased and now those leases were being reviewed by the tribes and some were not being renewed.
It will be interesting to see what happens when the full 90 year lease expires on more than half of Palm Springs and other surrounding areas.

They would really need to make sure that if the land is on lease terms that they do their homework to make sure the lease is not just voided after a couple decades. Lets not also forget that the area has plenty of casinos that would add to competition.

I was surprised that they did have fireworks this weekend because it was a bit windy.
The temperatures dropped quite a bit in the evenings

Looks like Santa Ana Winds through Wednesday, so two more days and nights of some very scary possibilities.

Here is hoping they don't come to fruition.

First off, the bad news. They found a body today at the Woodley Fire, making 3 people whose life was lost.

Nothing like the Camp Fire in NorCal, but still sad news.

Now the good news, the winds have died down and expected to remain that way.

So hopefully a Full fireworks show tonight.

There are plenty of Emergency gates throughout the Resort where the equipment can enter off the street.

Yes and no. I don't know how quickly they can open gates that are not regularly staffed, but standard operations have only three gates to public streets open and staffed: Ball/Cast Way/TDA (North), Harbor Point (East), GCH/DVC (Southwest). Winston (Northwest) only opens to the tram roadway through M&F. During construction you also have the gate North of Winston on DL Drive.

The biggest danger at the DL resort is the amount of infill construction over the years. Look at the panic over opening up walkways for SW:GE. With Tiki Room, Indy, Fan!!, and Tarzan stairs on the West side, TL Terrace and Autopia expansion on the East side, and now Matterhorn queue addition in FL, walkways have steadily been constricted. Only the new Big Thunder Trail and MS bypass have appreciably improved things. DCA is in much better shape. Frankly, I think DL is the most constricted of all the US parks--and it's not just because it's old. It's intentional.

First off, Full Fireworks show are being offered right now, so good news.

The Emergency Gates can be opened by the AFD, as they get master keys. Also, when an emergency is declared, security is sent to the appropriate gates to open then.

And yes, packed walkways are an issue, and why now guests are to be directed backstage in the immediate area. This also helps keep the rest of the park calm.

Let's say the trees in front of the Pooh attraction catch on fire. They can close off the path near the HM exit, and let most guests head out the CM gate near the Splash area. If the fire doesn't spread, then they can hand out special Fast Passes and maybe food vouchers to those affected and get them back in the park.

If it gets worse, then they can get them off property through an emergency gate.

The plans worked out are varied and have multiple options, based on the situation.

These plans are given to select CM's, along with the APD, AFD and other government officials, and are updated on a regular basis.

AFD does early morning training at the Resort a couple of times a year, and works along side the DFD and Security CM's.

I'd hope the fire dept would have the decency to let it spread just enough to make the Pooh attraction irreparable.
