Crowds in Dec

Crowds are great (small) untill the 20th, then forget it. It is packed the week of Christmas through New Year's. We are going the week before, the 12-20th, then I don't want to be anywhere near there. Of course, many people love the crowds and festivities and longer park hours. I'll take quiet and uncrowded anytime. Easter week is a similar madhouse. I just don't see why anyone would want to subject themselves to 1-2 hour waits for even the minor rides or attractions. Last year, the week before Christmas week, we did not even use a fastpass all week. Now, you have to plan properly, and pick carefully which park to go to on which days, arrive early, etc...You can do twice as much off-season, even with the park hours much shorter. Anyway, if you are one of the people who thrive on crowds and chaos, I hope you have a wonderful time. Christmas is a wonderful time to see the parks, but I choose to go before the masses arrive, and have been doing this regularly. Now, I have been when the parks were packed. Never again.

I've been to WDW at its slowest time and it was great. My wife has never been there for Christmas but I have. I'll sacrifice my sanity next Christmas so my wife can enjoy the atmosphere. We're not expecting to go on alot of rides but we're going with a fun bunch and we'll make the best of it.:hammer:

My cousin, her family and I are going for the weekend, we're leaving Dec 19th, going to a park the 20th, and checking out the 21st, but we're also going to a park the 21st before we come back. Now, my cousin wants to go to IOA and MK so since we're going to a different park the 20th and 21st what park would you guys suggest for the 20th and then the 21st? If I confused you, sorry! If not, suggestions would be appreciated!

the 6-13th is an excellent time....you'll be the only ones there and the decorations are up....as for the 18-25th trip....thats a whole different story....i would suggets you do as much as you can on the 18th and 19th because after that it;s gonna be a ZOO! everyones cranky, the weathers not that warm and it's packed...it will be just as bad, if not worse than Easter.

Easter week was worse that Christmas week, from personal opinion, in regards to waits in lines.

We only get to go to Disney once a year, and we always go sometime between Thanksgiving and Christmas. This year we'll arrive Thanksgiving day which we've never done before, and will probably never do again. We hate the crowds. (Just couldn't pass it up when DVC let us know two weeks ago that they had a cancellation and could get us in for 3 extra days. With the Annual Pass in hand, we couldn't pass it up.)
Anyway, we try to go sometime between December 1 and December 18 each year. You can enjoy the lights, Christmas Party, etc (it is worth your time to go to every hotel on property and view their decorations - unreal!), but you don't have the crowds. Fast Pass counters usually aren't even open the lines are so short. And sometimes you can get on a ride, and ride it over and over without even getting off. We did that on Splash Mountain two years ago. Couldn't believe it!
When I was young, my parents would take us to Disney for Christmas and it wasn't very crowded. But this was back when you had tickets for each ride, or the unlimited ride pass you'd wear around your neck. I wouldn't subject myself to that now.
We also like the off season due to the fact that we can stay 10 days in a 2 bedroom for what a week in a 1 bedroom or studio during peak time would take in DVC points.

We went to WDW a couple of yrs ago and got there ON thanksgiving day and we went to epcot, had our thanksgiving feast of turkey legs :slurp: and the crowds werent too bad...next day we went to MK and got through everything with a LOT of time to spare...i guess cuz the park closed so late we had time and we used our FPs wisely...hopefully when we go dec 19-21 it wont be so bad ::crossing fingers::
