We're headed out to WDW the week of Sat. 12/13 thru Fri. 12/19. Any idea how the crowds might be ? Is it too close to Christmas that the crowds will be too large because my DH hates crowds & long lines. We're also celebrating my DS 1rst B-day ! :xmas: Also anyone ordered a B-day cake delivered to their rooms ? Is that possible or something worthwhile ?

Any adivce or suggestions are always welcomed ! Thanks !!

Hi, Pandora!

Actually, I find this to be a VERY good week for crowds. Traditionally, the weekend before Christmas marks the beginning of the "Holiday" season for WDW, and also the HUGE influx of crowds. In this case, that would be the 20th of December, so you'll just miss it. It's so quiet just before Christmas, that Disney considers it part of their "Value" season which means the resorts are at their lowest rates of the year to try to attract more people.

In 2001 I was at WDW from about the 15th of December till January 2nd. The first week was absolutely perfect. Great weather, few people...lots of decorations, MVMCP...perfect. The weekend before Christmas - what a change! It was still great, and actually the crowds did help with the holiday spirit, but it did mean for longer lines, etc. But it was still worth it!

It was so good, that I'm doing it again this year. I'll be there from Dec 13th till about the 3rd of January (with one week probably down in the Florida Keys visiting another friend)

Where are you staying?

I go the second week in Dec and the crowds are not that
bad. But the week you are going the crowds are much larger
it's to close to Christmas. 7 years ago I went to WDW the
week you are going and it was very crowded. that is y I go
the second week in Dec.

We will be there the same week. We just get there a day later. We had planned on arriving the day you do, but we decided to cut off a day at WDW to allow us to go to the Pop without having to move our stuff about anymore than necessary since we will have already stayed with family for a few days.

From everything I have been able to find about WDW during this time, it's about the best there is during holiday season. Best in terms of low crowds and short lines anyway. I can't wait! Mickey

At the time your going, the crowds should be pretty low. By the time you leave, the crowds will be building for the holiday. Either way, you should have a great time.

I was thinking of moving it up a week earlier (12/6 - 12/12) just to be on the safe side. My DH absolutely hates crowds & long lines & with a 1 year old I'm not looking forward to fighting thru tons of people in a stroller :hammer: That way we get to see all the beautiful x-mas decorations & take our time. I can't wait for these months to fly by :xmas: . Now I just have to be patient & wait for those codes in Dec. to come out !!!

I'm waiting on that too!

Last year the general codes came out on July 22 for the Holiday season, with the AP codes coming out a week later. Only a few more weeks, hopefully! I like to get at least the reservations done...then I can relax. I try to pay it all off before I go. The one thing I *don't* like about going away is paying for it when I get back. I'd rather come back and start saving for THE NEXT TRIP.

Me too !

I always like to plan ahead to the point that I'm the Disney expert at my office & take tons of ribbing for my overplanning. But I like things to be as perfect as they can. My most important mission is waiting for those codes & making our reservation asap:sohappy: That way I can relax & start paying for it every month so it's fully paid off by the time vacation comes around. Hopefully there are some good codes coming out for Dec. because we are really looking forward to AKL ! :xmas:

Pandora174, my family and I were in Orlando last December from the 14-19 and believe me when I tell you there were no crowds nor long lines at any of the parks we went to. (I can't stand crowds or long lines either) I think the longest we ever waited was 20 minutes and I think that was for the Pooh ride at MK.

It was such a wonderful trip and the kids had so much fun that we are going back from 12/13-12/20. (Started planning as soon as we got back)

I'm willing to bet it will be much the same as that's the week before kids get out of school for Christmas break.
