Crowds and temps in mid Jan??

Can anyone look into their crystal ball and see what an avg temp in mid Jan would be? My wife is concerned she will be freezing all day long.

Also, can we expect light crowds mid week?

Temps can be a bit frigid in the AM and late evening. Afternoons, expect short sleeve shirts to suffice. When we were there last January, I wore jeans every day.

Crowds were not bad at all. I wouldn't give a 2nd thought about that.

Very nice....thanks....:sohappy:

You're welcome.

Tell your wife not to worry. My fiance is the same way. Me to in fact. I hate the cold. I always get off to an early start (around 7:00 AM.) By 9:00, sweatshirts were off and we were fine. By noon, we could have easily been in shorts. At night, we wore pants, maybe a long sleeve shirt and it was just fine.

I highly advise packing a winter coat and 2 sweatshirts for at night. Though, I get cold easilly, I know how cold it gets, and in Jan, it does get down to freezing in FL.

Jan is the best time to go in my opinion.

The temps can vary that time of year. Two years ago, we were there for MLK weekend and it didn't get above 50 degrees each day. The low reached 29 so it was a chilly time. Last year, same weekend, I was sporting shorts and a polo shirt!

I was also there the second weekend of Jan last year (2004) and it was chilly. I was wearing pants and a fleece jacket during the day. It all depends on good ol' mother nature!

As for the crowds, weekdays should be great! MLK weekends the past two years have been good. No wait more than 20 minutes. Fast Pass was not an issue because the crowds were so light.

But don't think you will be able to walk up on everything... you know that there will be a few rides that there will be a wait.

Have fun!

January, last year at least, can be very cold during the day!!! When i was working in Fantasyland, I needed a coat and hat in the daytime, and even more at night!!! And I am a New Yorker!

It is a good time to visit cause the place is empty, compared to summer, but also can be bad cause entertainment is at a minimum and park hours are greatly reduced.

We went two years ago on the second week of January. It was warm for two days. I wore shorts both days. The third day it was freezing. I wore everything.

WARNING: Be sure to go to the Disney Wide World of Sports website and check out the events in January. Pay close attention to cheerleading events. I have heard the resorts can be VERY noisy at night. :( If you plan to stay in a value resort you need to go when no events are taking place.

Good call. We were there last year in January (I went just about every weekend last Jan) and didn't realize we were there when the Disney Marathon was taking place. This caused a lot of travel problems to and from the parks. We almost missed our checkout because we didn't get back in time.

I like the first week of February personally. It's the last week of the value season so you get a good deal. Plus, the weather is awesome IMO .. shorts and pullover in the morning, short sleeves in the afternoon, jeans and pullover at night.

January will probably be high40s/low50s in the morning and high 50s/low60s in the afternoon.

Here's the worst-case scenario: I was there during a record-cold spell in January 2003. The coldest night, we had a hard freeze and it was in the upper-20s when we headed to the park, with heavy northerly winds! We had ALL of our "get from the car to the airport up north" clothes on. By mid-day, it was in the low-40s with heavy winds. We were COLD! (And it snowed briefly along the east Florida coast that day...) There was no line for Splash Mountain, though. (No, we didn't go on it...) Ironically, my brother was skiing in Colorado at the same time, and it was warmer for him than for me!

However, cold as that day was, the days around it were cool, but tolerable. We only had one "swimmable" day that week, but most days had highs in the low 60s, and lows in the 40s (and probably still in the 50s by the time we left the park)

Keep in mind that this was a "once in 20 years" cold snap - it's unlikely you'll have similarly bad luck... But you should be prepared if it occurs...

Of course, the same period of time the year before, my brother (same one who was skiing) was there, and had highs in the 80s. So you never know...
