Crowd Levels

Hi All,

I'll be in LA this upcoming weekend and thinking of heading down to Disneyland on Monday, 10/26. Any idea what crowd levels will be like? Disneyland is open 10am-9pm that day. Thank you!

Honestly, to be prepared, I'd expect for some crowds. It seems Disneyland no longer has off-peak days. It's been fairly crowded for every one of my recent visits. Although there have been crowds, I've still enjoyed my visits.

We were just there this last weekend, including Monday. The crowds were crazy. I was not expecting that many people! I mean, I expected waits but 95% of rides were an hour+, I was a little shocked. Granted, I haven't been to DL in 5 years (have been going to DW), so lots of things changed but last time we went in October at this time, it wasn't so nuts. To sum it up, I would expect crowds.

This last weekend was UEA in Utah. Every school in the state has at least a four day week some have five while the teachers have conferences. The whole state pretty much goes to Disneyland.

I didn't hear about that until two days ago. That's really unfortunate as I would have definitely plan a different weekend. Why does the whole state go to Disneyland?

Because all the kids are off of school. People think it will be a good time because schools in the rest of the country aren't out. But with so many people descending from Utah it makes the parks really crowded.

Oh, I just noticed I left a vital work out of my first post. The schools all have a three or four day week end. That makes a huge difference.

Were any of you there last Thursday? Those were some crazy crowds for a weekday, more crowded than some days this summer. I just moved here fairly recently so pardon my ignorance, but is it always this crowded during the Halloween season? I'm wondering if it's a perfect storm between that and the 60th that are causing the crowd levels we're seeing.

I was indeed there on Thursday. I arrived around 7 with the knowledge that it was horrendously packed but that DL was open until midnight. I started by getting sufficiently drunk at the currently-under-renovation Hearthstone Lounge's makeshift bar. Then I entered DCA, which was about to close. It was serene and pleasant. I was able to do Soarin' with a 15-minute wait. Then I entered DL and it was pandemonium! Gridlock in Town Square with Paint the Night going by. It was a slow-moving sea of people everywhere, although the park emptied out nicely around 10. I mean, I'm good at Disneylanding by myself, but even I was having trouble getting around. The place was imploding like the house from Poltergeist with all those bodies.

Ok good, someone else understands, haha! I was in DCA up until 8:00 and then I went over to DL for Paint the Night at 8:45 so I'm afraid I missed the sereneness over there. After PtN and DL Forever I tried to (stupidly I see now) make my way over to Indy but I forgot that on crowded nights they send you through Frontierland, so it took a good 20 minutes to get from the middle of Main Street to Adventureland. All of this sounds like complaining, but really I was still glad to simply be walking around Disneyland!

And people wonder why they keep raising ticket prices? The answer is right here in this thread.

It's not just that one weekend. It's been like this every week since the 60th started.

Every week some minor contingent from some lightly-populated Western state can come forward and claim they are the reason that Disneyland is crowded that weekend. But the truth is, Disneyland is now super-crowded every week of every month, it's just whether or not you are going to be merely super-crowded (due to Utah Schools, or Oregon Spelunkers, or Arizona Birdwatchers, or Idaho Bigfoot Hunters, etc.) or if it's going to be super-duper-crowded (due to Dapper Days, or Gay Days, or the Auto Show, or Columbus Day, etc.)

Don't feel like you picked the wrong weekend. This last weekend was actually less crowded than Gay Days and Dapper Days weekends earlier this fall, both times when Disneyland actually had to close the turnstiles for a bit due to hitting capacity.

The weekend you were there Disneyland didn't hit capacity and the turnstiles never closed. So you picked the right weekend!
