creative ways to lower your resort costs

hey everyone. we have had annual passes for many more years than i can recall but i do remember a time when we would purchase the 4 and/or 5 day passporters, both before the time we started staying on property and now ever since, beginnng the year after CBR opened.

twas a time when saving on resort room costs were fairly straight forward but today it has become an art to save the most money, in fact perhaps a science.

so i am asking everyone to post the various ways they work their resort stays so that they pay the lowest per/night room rates possible.

i will start this with my own current personal example. as of early this morning we had 2 reservations made for the world. one was for may 31st for 6 nights at the CBR resort waterview with the Annual Passholders discount and the second one for August 9th for 7 nights at the Pop standard room using the 4/7 discount. for this later reservation i have a 1 day ticket reserved that i will use its value towards my annual pass renewal in 2010. tonight i called disney reservations and priced a CBR waterview room for May 31st for 6 nights using the general discount code available. YES THAT IS CORRECT i priced another reservation for the SAME dates and same room/resort as my annual pass reservation. THE RESULTS WERE VERY INTERESTING...... for the sunday thru thursday night room rates the annual pass discount was $10/night less than the general discount. HOWEVER for the friday night room rate the general discount rate was $81 less ($139 vs $220) than the annual pass. RESULT..... i now have for may 31st for 6 nights 2 reservations, continuing reservations, with the first 5 nights on an annual pass discount and the 6th night on the general rate code discount.... saving myself $81+taxes.

i hope the above was understandable to everyone. now for the August reservation it is costing me $451 for 7 nights at a Pop standard room including a 1 day ticket (est value $75) that will reduce my AP renewal cost in 2010. having given the $200 deposit for the reservation i am faced with ONLY OWING $251 for a 7 night stay in august with park admissions already paid for. this too may be able to be further reduced once other future discounts are announced.... free dining would be nice :sohappy:

yes i know it seems like i am trying to get a way cheap but in my mind i am trying to figure ways of visiting WDW more than once a year simply by reducing resort room costs.

WHEWWWWW a lot written and said.... so again i ask you.... in what ways are you creatively saving on nightly resort room stays... and please confine your posts to staying on disney property.

You are basically trying to maximize the discount for each nights stay using whatever means possible - even if it means making 10 separate reservations for a 10 night stay.

A good knowledge of the currently available discounts and time to call or work the website is all that is needed - or a travel agent that will do the same.

I know quite a few that do this everyday!

Enjoy - it can be fun!

Wow! You are an super planner! I love it!! :sohappy: I'm sorry that i can't help here - the only creative way i've saved $$ was when I got a Pin Code! And this trip we are doing the 4/3. Nothing like you've worked out! I just wanted to give you a cheer for great planning!!! :sohappy:

I'm a Fla Resident and obsessed with getting the best deal. I do similar things as the OP in that I constantly check the WDW website for discounts. If you have a few minutes, go online and go through the process of booking reservations. You can do this as a Fla Resident or as a Passholder by choosing the Room Only option. The details include the rates for every night of your stay (which sometimes vary). We've been going so long that I have a pretty good idea of what is high and what is not. I then minimize that reservation and start over again with another. You can get a whole different rate by switching around your days or reducing the duration of your stay at one resort and we have quite frequently spent the last night or two at a different resort if the rate was much higher at a Deluxe resort when we were there over the weekend. Even if I book what I consider to be a good deal, I still look at the new offers for residents and even non-residents about twice a week until the day we leave. Several times I've found better deals or more rooms included in a rate special have been released closer to our visit that I've rebooked. I think everyone owes it to themselves to get the best deal so you either have more spending money during your trip or get to visit the World more often.

We've added a night using a AAA discount which was $3 more than the AP which wasn't available and tacked that on to a pin code reservation to get a discount for each night. Every bit helps! Nice to know that the general discount can be so good. Did you have a code for the general discount, where did you get it?
