I haven't died, I'm still working on mine. It's taking longer than I thought, plus I'm busy. Also, the ones posted so far are great.

I love checking in on this contest to see if any new entries were posted....great job!
I'm a regular participater in the Photo Contest, and I'd love to enter this as well. Problem is, I don't have any of those fancy programs that you guys use. (However, I do have limited experience in photo shop...I took a photog class in college four years ago). Anyway, my question to you is, is there any program that you know of that I could maybe download from the internet that would allow me to "play" around with some pics and graphics so that I could attempt an entry? I'm not looking for something fancy, but just something that would allow me to combine pics.

If you need to know: I'm using a Dell computer (I have no photo editing program installed currently) running on Microsoft XP Media Ed.

Thanks for the help! And keep the great WaltPapers coming!

SewIn2Disney--I suggest you try GIMP. It's completely free, and it has most of the functions of Photoshop.

You can download the Windows version here: http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/stable.html

You need to download GTK+ 2 Runtime Environment and The GIMP for Windows (the first two links on the page). They're pretty small downloads (about 13 MB for both). Install the GTK+ 2 (you'll need to reboot your computer after it installs), then install GIMP.

I recall that in another thread, you mentioned that you were having issues resizing images for the photo contests. You can use GIMP to resize images easily. Open your image in GIMP, then choose Image, Scale Image and set the longest dimension to 700. The other dimension will automatically change to 525 (or close to it) because it is locked. Then just save using Save As--so that you don't overwrite your original file--and you're done!

Okay, I got it all downloaded, and running....and I must say, this is more confusing then photoshop! I've been playing with it for the last 16 minutes, and I still have a white screen. Nothing I click on will allow me to "draw" or anything! I can't even figure out how to upload a picture into it!
Help!

You can either start with a new image (File, New), or you can open a picture you already have and modify it (File, Open). If you want to draw, select the paintbrush or pencil or any other of the drawing tools from the toolbox. You can open multiple pictures and select parts from one image (using the select tools--rectangle, elliptical, hand drawn, etc.) and copy and paste into another image. You can use the text tool to add text to the image.

These all work almost exactly the same as they do in Photoshop (which is what I use). If you need additional help, you reference the online user's guide: http://docs.gimp.org/en/

Honestly, the way I learn new applications is to just play around with it and see how everything works. You can't break anything, so just take your time and have fun.

Even though I know how some features work in Photoshop (and GIMP), I still won't be entering these contests because I'm simply not that creative. I wish you well with your Waltpaper and I'm glad these contests are back because there are some very creative people on these boards and I love seeing the entries.

Darnit, I forgot all about this. I still have two days, but I'm also pretty busy and nowhere near done with my entry. I might not make it, but I'll try.

Thanks. A whole lot of "invert," "motion blur," and "difference" commands, with a ton of lens flares. By the way, can you find the hidden mickey? :lookaroun
