Crazy Honeymoon Question***HELP***

I have a really crazy question...I am getting married this SAturday 12/1 and we are going to be at the Poly for 12 days...We booked the trip and paid for it through a Disney Travel Agent...I was told today that when we checked in we needed to give a Credit Card for Room Charging. That is all fine and dandy, but we were told that they would put a $1500.00 hold on my card. I think that is a little excesive. We are not planning on charging anything to our room. We were told by someone, that you can tell them what you want to put down or tell them that we do not what any charging to the room. Does anyone know if this is at all true??? Thanks in advance to everyone!!

they link your credit card number to your key to the world. that way everything is all on one card. so its like your key to the world has a $1500 limit. if you buy something at the art of disney or somewhere, they can swipe your key instead of your card. we did this in aug, we had 1 credit card for all honeymoon stuff, it just made it a little easier. at the end of your stay you get a statement theyll slide under your door. hope this helps, its late and time for bed!! :dazzle:

A hold is not a charge, its just that, a hold. It will put a hold on your credit limit on the card, but it does not do anything else.

Unless you plan on making some major purchases on your card while you are at the resort it should not matter.

Holds get placed on cards all the time. It happens all the time at gas stations for example,

I know it's been discussed on here a few times, so perhaps a search might get you the relevant posts, but I know a CM in-the-know has explained that it's not a "hold" in the typical sense. When you give the front desk your credit card to use for charging purchases back to your room, they simply run the card to ensure that it's a valid card. They do *not* put a true hold on that money in the usual sense.

Your charging limit is $1500 at the Poly. If you happen to reach the $1500 limit, new charges will stop being accepted on your room key, and you'll have to contact the front desk (wither via phone or in-person) to have that $1500 put through onto the card, clearing the way for another $1500 limit.

When you set up the charging, I believe you can request a lower limit if you don't want $1500. Also, at any time you can visit the desk, review your billing portfolio, and pay off any charges using a different form of payment (cash, traveler's checks, Disney gift card, etc)

You are not required to set this up, it is for guest convenience. When you check in they will ask if you wish to attach a credit card to your room key for charging purposes, if you dont want to just say no thank you and pay for each purchase by any means you wish.

You may have to present a CC for other room related deposits such as phone use or that sort of thing but its usually not very much.

We just got back and this was the 1st time we ever went over $1500 on our card.

When you check in you will provide a CC for purchases to be charged to your room. They DO NOT charge the $1500 up front. They just make sure the card is valid. When you reach the $1500 limit on your room account the charge your CC and restart your room charge limit. You DO NOT have to call them for this to happen and the WILL NOT call you. They just do it.

I hope you have a GREAT Honeymoon.

We never use the charge to your room option. The one time we did- we went far over our budget. We pay good old-fashioned CASH for everything and we manage to stay at out budgeted amount. Thus allowing for many more trips to WDW!

Don't worry, it is absolutely optional, you don't have to attach your credit card to your room key, it is just for your convenience.

Also note that putting a credit card on-file allows for express check-out. On your check-out day, they leave your bill on your doorknob (or slip it under the door if your'e at a hotel with interior hallways). Otherwise to check out you need to go to the front desk.

Offhand I don't know if you can leave the credit card strictly to get epxress checkout and *not* have a room charge set up. I assume you can, but not sure. I'll have to ask my CM friend who used to work at a resort.

First off, congratulations on your upcoming marriage.

Everyone's correct about the credit hold. It's not a big deal at all.

It's your honeymoon and don't worry about spending money! As you are going for 12 days, I would never bring cash only. Too easy to lose. Keep most of your cash at home and pay the credit card bill when it comes in. As for overspending, don't worry, it's your honeymoon!! You only get married once (well we all start out that way, LOL) and not getting something on your honeymoon will live with you for a long time.

My wife and I went to Hawaii for two weeks on our honeymoon and we were told my her sister that we should not worry about what we spend, the honeymoon is a once in a lifetime event. It's not the same to buy something your really wanted on your next vacation to the same place. We didn't worry about anything. We ate where we wanted, bought what we wanted and came home happy!! That's my advice for you.

Congratulations and lucky lucky you to have 12 wonderful days at the Poly!

There's some good information and some not-good information in this thread. PLEASE, PLEASE read this post, as it contains the FACTS about rom charging.

Yes, it is totally optional.

Room charge doesn't need to be backed up with a credit card. Debit card, travelers checks, cash, and even Disney Dollars can back up a room charge, also.

The UPPER LIMIT is set by level of resort. $1,500 is the upper limit for a deluxe resort such as Polynesian. HOWEVER, the room charge limit can be set by you to be any amount up to $1500. In other words, you could set up a room charge for $400.22 if you really wanted to.

If you do use plastic to back up the room charge, there is NO HOLD PLACED ON THE CARD/ACCOUNT. Let me repeat that ... if you use a card to back up a room charge, that card is NOT charged and there is NO HOLD placed on that account. They don't even check to see if you have enough available credit/balance to pay for the charge. The front desk CM swipes the card and runs a charge for ZERO DOLLARS. They wait to see if the charge is approved, because that means it's a valid card linked to a valid account (a stolen card or a closed account would not get approval for a charge of zero dollars).

Your card is not charged until one of two things happens: you reach your room charge limit; or it is about 3:00 a.m. on your day of check-out. You can continue to use the room charge even after you check-out of your resort, up until 11:59 p.m. on your check-out day.

If you use cash or similar to back up a room charge and you never reached your limit, you'll receive a cash refund at time of check-out.

Not at a WDW owned-and-operated resort. No way.

They absolutely do not require (or even ask for) a credit card imprint for "incidentals" or phone calls or any sort of deposit. They are one of the very few hoteliers in the USA that does it this way. Almost every other hotel in this country requires plastic at check-in ... but WDW owned-and-operated resorts definitely DO NOT.

Just wanted to point out that you most likely meant "...or it is about 3:00 a.m. on your day of check-out"...and not check-in. :)
