CP Roles and Majors

Hey all-

I'm considering doing the College Program sometime within the next couple of years. I am double majoring in Economics and English, but would like to have a job working in Transportation or Ops. For necessary credit hours, does my job necessarily correspond to what I'm studying? For example, because I am an Economics major, will that mean I work in administration? Or are the classes the only aspect that is contingent upon what I''m studying, and I can do something like Ops or Transportation?

Thanks in advance!

Your degree path has nothing to do with the position you get. Also in most situations the classes have nothing to do with it either.

I am a theater arts design major (just graduated actually) and I was placed in Attractions. I may end up working at a show or a ride I don't know yet but helping customers sit down really isn't what I studied but I can use my time at Disney to network with people in the design sections of Disney and that is why I want to do it. It also makes me eligible for other internships in the future. The only jobs I know they kinda sway based on major are the hotel reception positions. I have heard those tend to go to hotel hospitality majors although a Disney rep did tell me your major really doesn't make a difference.

Now on the classroom front not all classes depend on your major. There are some like the mechanics or theater ones that you must be of a certain degree to be able to take those courses while others any one can take and they are more about the company or you as a employee and not about your major.

Marketing you seems like a good choice if nothing lines up with your major because it is all about making yourself more hire-able.

From Disney's perspective, they do not care what your major is, they are looking to fill roles. If you have an interest or experience in particular a field, they will try to match you up with those.

However, the view of your institution may be completely different. Some recognize the program as an internship and provide credit regardless of your role; others require you work in a role that is closely aligned to your major. You need to talk with you academic adviser to see how they view the program and what requirements you may need to meet for credit.

None of my roles fit my major (I got a degree in General Humanities, and I worked in merchandise, character attendant, QSFB, custodial, and attractions). Usually the roles that fit majors are hospitality (Front Desk/Concierge), photography/photopass, ect

Thanks for the responses, all. From the sounds of thing it seems like I have to talk to my academic adviser at my college before committing to the program, but you all helped to answer many of my questions.

DD is pre-med and did her college program at the American Idol Experience. She took two classes - Marketing You and Disney Heritage. The marketing class will count as an elective.
