Hello everybody!! I have a few questions pertaining to the college program character auditions. My best friend has just graduated college and I graduate in May...we made a trip to Disney over New Years to find a place to live and talk to casting, but after talking to casting they told us jobs were seriously limited still and our best bet would be to do the college program. I have already done one college program and it was by far the BEST time of my life!! My friend Jane was supposed to do it with me but she missed her family too much...now it's time for both of us to start out doing something and our dream is to be working with Disney! :)

If we do the college program we are both interested in doing character. Jane really wants to be a face character, and while I'd love to be a face character I wouldn't mind doing fur - I love anything dealing with guests and making them happy, and just being offered a role in entertainment would be awesome!

We have a few questions...first off, I have listed a few pictures of us. Do you think we could pass for a face character? I am 5'4.5 & Jane is 5'5. I think Jane could pass for Aurora, Belle, Alice, Snow White and Wendy. I don't know what I'd pass for...Ariel is my favorite princess, but like I said, I'd take anything. Let me know what you guys think!! Oh yeah, I know the princesses are really pale. Jane is pretty pale but I'm not, if I go into the sun without sunscreen I turn brown. I'm 1/3 Native American and my dad is REALLY dark..but I can get pale, so I don't think that'll be a problem.

Also, we have a few questions about on site auditions vs. off site auditions. I have heard two different things...I heard that on site auditions at AKL costuming facility are much easier and you're more likely to get picked but then again I have heard stuff like you do a little peppy dance and you get cut easily...and then I've heard at off site auditions it's much more complicated..I've heard so many things I don't know what to think! Ha ha. I need some clarification, if anybody knows could you help us out? If an on site audition is easier then we can go to FL, that's not a problem. But if it's better to do it off site, then we can do that too.

I'm not gonna lie...we aren't the best dancers. Jane has actually tried out for character performer before in North Carolina when she was going to do the CP with me but didn't make it. She said how hard it was...I have never even been to an audition. I did do ballet, tap & hip hop dancing when I was little and I cheered throughout Jr. High & some High School - but I wasn't the best cheerleader and it would often take me awhile to memorize the routines. Do we have to be expert dancers? We can both be outgoing, silly and animated if that's what they're looking for. But when it comes to memorizing dance routines in a matter of minutes it's kind of hard for us. Can you guys give us some tips on how the audition will be?

Thank you soooooooo much for all the input and help!! We really appreciate it! :)

I'm not exactly sure what they look for for face characters, I'm just saying what I know from the characters that I've worked with in the past.

You said it yourself, you're too tan to do the classic ones. If you can go paler than you can do the regular princesses, or you could even go darker and do Poca and Jasmine.

As for your friend, the one main thing I notice is that it looks like she may have an acne problem, which is one of the biggest problems they have with face characters. I've heard stories of characters being temporarily disapproved for acne and even a story of a Snow White who used some product that ended up with acne scarring which took her out completely.

If you're doing just regular meet and greets, then dancing is really not a big deal. Everything is based on movement, which they have a dancing audition to see how well you move, but you don't actually have to be a good dancer. Dancing only comes into play if you're wanting to be in a parade or a show.

But I'll be quite honest, face characters are really hard to get. You have to have all kinds of things that you can't even control. My advice would be to start out in fur characters, once you do that it's a lot easier to move around and you may eventually get what you want. I knew a girl who did Jasmine, Poca and several furry characters, so it's not the end of the world to start out in fur.

I don't have much advise on the audition part. But unfortunately your friend is not eligable to do the CP (as you have to be a current student when applying for the CP).

Yeah, she can't do it if she currently isn't in school. However, if she's going for a graduate degree then she can, or if she graduated HS within the last 4 years she can do CareerStart (which is what I did, it's the exact same thing). There are definitely ways around it. But they're only now starting to hire more permanent people, it's probably a lot easier to start off in the CP or CS and then transfer over after your program is up.

First let me say you are both beautiful girls. Casting is very tight lipped about their face roll requirements other than height. To me, if you were fairer skinned you'd be a great Aurora, but you're not tall enough. Your friend is definately too tall for either Alice or Wendy. If they consider you for a face roll you'll know right away because they will pull you out of the audition and put you in costume and take some photos to see if you're a fit.

Your best bet is to go to an audition have FUN and don't take it TOO seriously. You don't have to be a great dancer to be a character performer, but being animated is crucial! I've done both face and fur so I can say face is overrated, fur is SO much fun!

I don't know a thing about the college program- so I can't help you there.

Good luck!

I have a friend who auditions all the time. Two things stick out in my mind about what she's told me.

1. Auditions at WDW are easier.
2. Some people get picked based on enthusiasm and not necessarily following the perfect routine. Matter of fact, I know a current character performer who did none of the correct steps at an audition. I don't know how often something like that happens though.
