Hi all,

I will be completing my undegrad in May, and have talked with a few people on here about doing the CP post-graduation. I am going to one of the presentations near me at the end of March and am hoping for the best!

I was just curious if anyone else on here has or knows someone who did the CP post-graduation. I imagine the biggest advantage is that I am available for work immediately, but are there any major drawbacks? Anything I can expect? Thanks so much in advance :)

You can do it up to the program after you graduate (for example, I am due to graduate in Dec, and want to do Spring 2009 in Jan). You just need to be a student when you apply. Good luck!

I did the CP post-grad but if I could go back, I would have went straight to being a full-time cast member. More pay, better hours, rarely more than 40 hour weeks, no crappy CP housing, and - more than anything - building tenure.

The only way I'd have done the CP is if I wanted the job to be temporary and was intending to come home after the 4-5 months.

I just completed my program and am planning on returning for a professional internship or another cp. I had a ton of friends who had graduated in May. I think a lot of them did the CP because they didn't have to find housing and transportation. One of my friends did his second cp and is in the process of going full time right now. I think the pay is better going full time but being a CP is a lot of fun.

The pay and benefits are significantly better with full-time employment. However, the only drawback is that you have to find housing in the area, which is not easy.

My plan (goal?) is to do a final CP in Jan, and then go FT after it ends. The plan is to save up some money while on it, and also look for an apartment as well.

Well I did the online application tonight and am going to the presentation next month. I assume that the interview is done on the spot? Getting excited!

my good friend is doing that right now

she grad in June and actually just extended her program

she is using her time down there to try and find a place to live and eventually find a full time job

Just be sure that you part take the quarter/semester right after you graduate.

The issue with going straight to full-time for me is that it seems like most of the entry-level positions are professional internships. Other positions not only require the degrees, but several years of experience as well. Coming straight of college, the CP looks like a better option.

I've applied for several PIs anyway. Hopefully, I won't have to wait too long after the deadline to find out whether they are interested in me or not.

I had originally planned on going straight down and getting a full-time position after I graduated.

Then I started thinking about it.

I live five states away. I have no idea about the area and I knew that it would probably be close to impossible to find a place to live in such a short time and I would be blowing money on a hotel while I looked around (I have to actually, physically see at the place I will be living in, I refuse to rely on the internet to tell me about the place). Plus there is the initial problem of all of the down-payments associated with moving into a new place and the fact that I will have little to no money at that point in time.

So, the current plan (I graduate May '09) is for me to apply to the college program (Fall Advantage) and use that time to find an apartment and start saving up a bit of money. I'll get to know the area and won't feel quite so lost as I would if I were just thrown in right after I graduate. I think that will also give me a good transition and the kick-start I think I'll need to go from being completely reliant on my parents to being completely reliant on myself.

So, while yes, I would love the extra pay and the benefits, I think it would ultimately be more helpful if I did the CP first and then transitioned into FT.

My plan now is to apply for full time or a Pro Internship when I graduate next year.

I plan on doing the same thing, except do a CP (I won't have a car). I should hopefully be graduating in Dec. I then want to do Spring 2009, using the time to search for an apartment. Then I want to go FT.
