Couple Epcot questions...

I've seen these things mentioned elsewhere on the 'net, but no one has ever been able to give me an answer... a couple of things at Epcot I'd never heard anything about...

1. Trained squirrels...

2. A guy who knows ALL the zipcodes in the US, you give him your zipcode and he can tell you where you're from...

3. An impromptu tea party in the UK garden with Alice and Mary Poppins.. (and no, not the one at the Grand Floridian)

I have asked EVERYWHERE and no one seems to know..

anyone here know anything about any of these?

I`ve heard of but never seen the UK tea party (urban myth?? Eeryones heard of it!)

Never seen a trained squirrel, but we did see a cute one near America dragging its stomach along the floor - like it was having a HUGE itch.

I worked in th UK pavillion and the tea party does take place but it is not all year. If I remember rightly it is only over Easter I think or around that time and they do if a couple of days. Really cute though!

1. Trained squirrels... By this I'm assuming you're talking about Epcot training the squirrels?... I have NO idea! I'm sure if they have a few as pets... lol :p

2. The zip code guy... I know there are people in the parks (usually once you enter the turnstyles) that ask you you're zip code and punch it into a little machine they have. Is that what you're talking about?

3. The tea party... I have heard of it, but I haven't been. Wasn't it on a Disney Episode on Roseanne, Boy Meets World, Full House, Step by Step..? Actually I don't think it was on Roseanne, Boy Meets World, or Full House... Of those guesses I'd have to say Step by Step... I'm not sure!!! lol

I have seen a "trained" squirell at Disney-MGM Studios. This squirell would wander up to the security people as the guests would wait to get into the park before the park opened and beg for food. Of course they would give it to him. It even climbed up one of the security guards pant legs. :lookaroun

Thank you! Now I know I'm not going crazy. You know any more about it? It may be only over Easter but I'd be curious to know more.

1. I even read on another board (non-Disney related) that some woman used to work at Epcot and trained squirrels. They called her the squirrel lady...

2. No. I read on a tip site that this guy, if you told him where you were from, he could recite the zip code, anywhere in the US.

Ya know...I think that's more SAD than impressive  I mean, geez. Someone has WAY too much time on their hands!

1. Trained squirrels? Hmm, seen some squirrels around the parks, but mostly they were chomping away on a turkey leg.

2: Zip code guy? I'm thinking maybe you're thinking of the person who enters your zip code into a computer.

3: The tea party does take place, but it's not all year. I think it's just once or twice a year. Was seen on Full House once, when Michelle ran away. I think.

No, here's the quote I have from my notes but I just can't remember the site...

*There is a guy that can name the zip code of every city in the <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:p</st1:country-region> He was one of the outside performers so to speak, and people where standing around him, and he did some really cool things with numbers, and would ask you what towns you were from and then tell you the zip code for your town.

Back in the UK pavillion I used to stop at the fish n chips stand between 12-2 to get some fish n chips and a shortbread cookie/bisquit, and go set on a bench back there in the maze/garden area past the stage where the British Invasion performs. Usually I'd hear some ruffling in the shrubs and fallen leaves, then I'd feel a tug on on my shoe laces or my sock, I'd look down and there would be a squirrel begging. I'd usually share a few chips with it, then it would perk up when it was shortbread time.

This happened in the late 90s til 2000, when I stopped going to Disney for a few years, I just got an AP again this January, and haven't stopped by the UK yet for my fish n chips, even though I've been jonesing for them for the past month.

I was even telling a friend about the squirrel(or squirrels) back in that section of the UK pavillion just recently.

So I don't know if they were trained, but they or it sure was a clever little begger.
:D

I know you all think I'm nuts and/or imagining things, but I'm determined to get to the bottom of this now :P

After some digging I found this on a message board...

Posted by mabels on Wednesday, February 25, 2004 @ 06:46 PM:
Hi, my name is mabels and I'm a Ponderholic ...
In the real world I'm known as Ilene the squirrel lady as I trained squirrels when I worked
at EPCOT and named them all mabels (as in Mickey, Minnie and mabels). I now work at Animal
Kingdom and love it most of the time (unless my feet start to hurt from standing for long
hours). I've worked at the Mouse House for 6 years now.

I've emailed her, but have heard nothing. But at least I know I'm not crazy :P

(Okay maybe not crazy in THAT way...*twitch*)

There's a guy who works at the Buckhorn Saloon in San Antonio that can do this. I don't know if he knows zips outside of Texas, but if he's learned all the zips in the state... that's pretty impressive!
