Counting Change

Ah, we are 31 & 30 (hubby & me) and we save our pennies and we put $25 a week each into our Christmas Club account and $25 a week into our Dinsey Vacation Club account at the credit union. We also save change and the kids save change. Recently the girls dipped into their change and spent $50 on those Disney Princess Motorolla 2 way pagers at Target. Still I think they had about $50 left over, not too bad considering we don't go to wdw until June. Also family/friends etc. tend to give "disney dollars" from the disney store for birthday/Christmas gifts. Every penny adds up. We also bring along the pennies/quarters for smashing and laundry as well.

side note our credit union now offers to count the change by weight instead of making you roll it. They do it for free because we have our accounts there. I have seen some coin counters in the grocery stores but they charge 9% fees. NO thanks, that adds up quickly. Get free rolls at the banks and make a night of it, teach the kids some math as well ;)

No way we're all here with you.........we save our change in 9 months we have saved $505.00. this will be money for the kids to do whatever they want at disney. Hubby and I like not going in our pockets every hour or so. The best way to do this is make sure you never make change for inctance when buying somthing if its $1.02 give em $2.00. But as I have also explained, I waitress so I come home with alot of change. Also, you probably quicker to spend paper money so... when you have extra... now this may sound crazy but it works.......stop by the laudromat and put a 20.00 in and get 20.00 worth of quarters. I have been told I am crazy by my friends but had I had that 20.00 in paper I would have spent it and promised to out it back and never would have. But I would never take a roll of quarters to pay for food etc. IT WORKS!!!!!:slurp:

well said dwarful... I neglected to mention earlier that saving change is fun too. My credit union also allows us to use there machine for free but it's alot more fun to count with the kids and they love rolling it!We definitley make it a family event. The best is oging to the bank the day before we leave and cashing it in. Then we go to the disney store and divi it up evenly into 3 envelopes.
It always gets spent but then we look foward to next year each year we try to break our record form the year before.:sohappy:

But as i said im 31 and it almost crazy the way im acting about getting tickets. I about Disneystupid enough i'll go hungry before going without Disney tickets. Is this nuts or what?????????Does anyone else do crazy stuff like this?

My wife and I counted up our loose change before our last trip, and we had almost 700 bucks!!! We couldn't believe it. Throwing the loose change into a big bottle everyday sure adds up quick.

So to answer your question - you are definitely not alone!

I never really thought about change this way! I always got tempted by it, and ended up spending it. But putting it in something and not touching it until the day before the trip...that would be exciting! I'm going to have to start doing this!! :sohappy:

Loose change

My family is another loose change army. My husband and I have already paid for a whole trip to Disney after saving a couple of years. Now we do it yearly so it goes down but still a lot ifyou think of it. We now have $600.00 so far but we still have 87 days to save so we will have at least another couple of hundred. My kids have $300 each saved with their coins also. My husband and I have also started putting dollar bills and whatever is left over from the week. We have a couple of hundred in there also. We are going to Disney for a week. (we have the disney lunch/dinner coupons and also Character breakfast coupons already paid for. We do that as the year goes on. So we won't have to worry about eating, it's already paid!!!We are also doing the Disney cruise for a week right after Disney so the change is for spending on the cruise. If we didn't save the change, we wouldn't be able to go once a year!!!

We got some through ebay, but you have to be careful not to spend over $15.00 per coupon. A couple of people had them for 99.00 for 10 which were really cheap. Also we got some from Florida Discount Tickets.net where they sell the lunch/dinner coupons, the Character Breakfast Coupons and the Fast Food breakfast which is so not worth the money. But we got the character breakfast ones because it cost about the same you save a little money. We just like to know it's paid in advance before we go there. There are some places like the Beaches and Cream Ice Cream Shop in the beach club that you save a ton of money on lunch/dinner with the coupon, you have to investigate which places you do better in. Check out Deb's dining option to help.

Just a side note

Just be careful on ebay because they sell the lunch/dinner vouchers as two adults and two children most of the time. There is a difference in price. And also the breakfasts. Just be sure you get what you need and don't be fooled by 4 vouchers. Make sure they are 4 adult vouchers.
