"Cost-efficient" Illuminations

I have noticed that the inferno barge is a big reason that some lasers can not be seen as well. In the shows which were done without the inferno effects, the lasers seemed much brighter at the end of Chaos, as the inferno is so bright, it masks the lasers.

The original IllumiNations was a great show, I was a huge fan. RoE raised the bar even further for me though. Its an incredible show. Everything from the scale and size of the show, the wonderful musical score, the precision timing and design of the firework display, and to the different components used (laser, light, fire, fireworks, water).

Recently I watched 2 videos, one of Illum and one of RoE, back-to-back. Now don't get me wrong, Illum was a great show. But compare the two together, and there really is no comparison. RoE dominates in every category I choose to judge it on. Everything is so precise and tight in RoE comapred to Illum. The syncronisation, timing and precision is on a different level. I would ask you to watch the 2 videos on WDWMAGIC.COM of the shows, and see what you think. My fond memories of Illum often mask the hard facts, that RoE is the much better show. Hats off to Disney and Don Dorsey for topping a classic.

Actually I did that same thing about 2 or 3 weeks ago. To me there is no comparison between the original and ROE too . I think the music, lasers, fountains, and overall fireworks are much better in the original. Not to mention the theme of going to each country and the lights around each pavilion. I also loathe the whole "Globe" scene in ROE which I think drags the whole show down. I just can't say enough about my love for the original compared to ROE. In this case my memories were right and the original is a much better show, IMO. Just different opinions. No big deal

LOL well it's always interesting to hear the other side of the story, and I guess it's each to their own :)

The middle section is wearing a bit on me too....although the end of the show makes up for it.

I think much of the middle section could be improved if the show used better water effects (ala Mistify-type fountains)

EXACTLY! If the middle was more exciting, I would have a MUCH better opinion of ROE.

I too think the globe takes up too much time. However until the last night of my last visit I was totally ignorant of the story of ROE. It's about the creation and evolution of the earth - starting with the big bang. Knowing that at least made the scenes on the globe make more sense. But I do agree that it drags the show.

If Disney does something right these days, it is evening entertainment!

I am intrigued to see what could replace Illuminations RoE, but it is so good that I would miss it (unlike the previous Illuminations, admittedly).

I agree! For me, when I'm seeing the show at that point, I want to fast foward and get to the good part...but hey adding the better water effects would definetely make up for the boring middle section of the show...

But Wishes like RoE has a similar problem...the somewhat tedious pauses between tracks and "scenes"....is Wishes' globe...(anyone else notice this)

If fireworks continued to explode in the air...there would be too much smoke to see and really enjoy the show...so every element is essential no matter how boring it may be...hehe

*So...adding better water effects to RoE during Globe part....and I think using the castle as a "screen" (something to go with the voices) for Wishes would make both shows better I think....

See that was one of the things I liked the most about the original Illuminations. To me, even when the fireworks were not going off, there was plenty of action going on to keep your attention. All of the fountains, "lasers", and lights around the countries just really fascinated me. But I honestly can see how some people would really enjoy the globe scene in ROE.

I have never really thought of it being such a problem in Wishes. It is nice that it is done in "acts", also, so many ppl applaude after each section, it is nice to have the brakes as to not miss any of the music.

Well, I can tell you this much...

There will be a very detailed, highly anticipated, multi-opinionated examination, coupled with an in-depth investigation conducted on Sunday, July 25th.

Stay tuned.

(better yet, come be a part of it! :D )

Very interesting topic. I've seen Illuminations:ROE more times than I'd want to count. I've seen it in every weather condition, every location, and every time of the year. I've seen in since the first days of the Millennium Celebration and in just the last couple days. My opinion is that it hasn't changed and we've got some over zealous cost-cutting rumors going here.

I will say I think Illuminations was better as part of the larger Millennium celebration. Spending an evening at Epcot with the Tapestry of Nations, then ROE, and then the atmosphere of World Showcase as they replied these 2 great songs as everyone was leaving, that was great Epcot. Now the feel-good parade is gone and ROE is no longer the newest use of Disney fireworks technology and storytelling. You have to give that to Wishes. But, World Showcase at night is still my #1 favorite Disney location.
