Yes, healthcare providers definitely need access to all of the n95 masks that can be made available. It's horrific that the CDC has to even recommend that healthcare providers use bandannas in the absence of other protection. It is an abomination that our nation didn't prepare for this properly and we are at this point.

No one is suggesting that people should be using N95 masks. They need to be reserved for healthcare providers.

However, many health experts are saying wearing other types of masks is important. Even the NYT is sharing patterns for making your own masks. These are strange and difficult times.
Let's not forget that China halted all N95 mask exports and also started buying large quantities world-wide before anyone even knew there was a problem.

Although I agree, I can understand why no administration prepared for this no matter who was President or which party held the house, senate or both.

Nothing like this has happened since 1918/1919 with the Spanish flu. I can understand why, starting a few decades later, nobody would think it would be necessary.

Even experts that thought a pandemic was possible never envisioned a disease that could be very serious and deadly for a small, but significant percentage of patients but also have extremely mild symptoms (or no symptoms) in a large percentage and, at the same time, be highly contagious. It is a truly unprecedented situation.

We’re not going to know until Disney opens. I suspect Disneyland will be more crowded since there are more locals who go. Disney World depends more on international than Disneyland. Whatever the amount is of guests that go will be good. Everyone says nothing will be normal again. I guess we’ll find a new normal. And still for many that will include Disney.

You make a good point on International. Whenever WDW opens, there could still be International travel constraints issued by the U.S as well as whatever restrictions are still in effect in the other countries. It wouldn't mean that everyone could come back immediately.

I don't know any of you personally, but I love this forum.

I live in the NY/NJ/CT metro area. One of my best friends was just killed by the Chinese/Wuhan/COVID-19/Coronavirus. He was only 36 years old. He didn't know how he got it. He was tested and told to self-quarantine, which he did. 9 days later, this past Saturday he had bad breathing problems and decided to to the Emergency Room. It was too late.

He died yesterday. Alone. I loved my good friend/little brother dearly.

We can't even mourn him properly, as only limited numbers of people can gather...even for funerals.

Sending love & prayers to you all.

We will go back to a “normal” existence again, it will just take time. WDW will be jammed with guests and bursting at the seams again and it may not take as long as some people think. I just don’t think it will be right away.

Very cool. Anyone know what Disney used the N95 masks for? Construction work?
I would think cast that are cleaners, painters, maint staff that have to clean it service areas that have mold mildew asbestos, etc. With Disney closed for long periods of time, surely mold dust dirt and mildew have accumulated inside and outside buildings of Disney. If the air conditioning was shut off or put at higher running temp to save $$ , the buildings will have and smell of mildew for sure. The cast would need to use these masks for their safety to walk around and for cleaning.

So sorry for your loss. Where we live the cemeteries are closed and the funerals only allow (1) family member to be present at the burial.

My goodness that is heartbreaking. I'm so sorry for your loss and thank you for posting, in which I can only think, had to be hard to do. But hopefully your message resonates with some folks who aren't already taking the proper precautions.

I think the issue based on the analysis is that this virus must have been spreading undetected in the NYC metropolitan area since early February. When they showed the per 100,000 population infections chart it was shocking how much higher NY and NJ were than anywhere else. I think that's why the fatality projections with distancing are so high because that area has such a high concentration of cases.

Dr. Fauci did contradict himself a little first saying that the 100,000-200,000 number was with mitigation but then saying that hopefully if we put the pedal to the metal we can push it down below that range.

The NY/NJ numbers are really staggering.

Here’s the University of Washington projections of total deaths in the U.S. I understand this projection, which is updated daily as new data comes in, is the primary model being used by the White House. You can see there’s a rather wide range of possible fatalities. I’ve selected April 14 to give the projected range on that date.

You can interact with the national and state-level projections using the website below.

Thank you. I've been looking at those projections, but mostly at the state levels. I'm heartened that the projection is currently less than 100k with the upper limit "only" at 177.

And to be clear, I'm not questioning the work. It's just crazy to me how we can wind up even there if we're all staying in our houses. Although I guess a lot of people aren't staying in their houses, which is part of the problem.

"Disney has rehired and furloughed crew working on its UK production The Little Mermaid and will utilize the government’s Job Retention Scheme, meaning they will receive 80% of salary up to a maximum of £2,500 ($3,100) per month.

In email correspondence seen by Deadline, executive producer Jeff Silver and unit production manager Russell Allen notified production staff yesterday that it will rescind previous termination notices that were handed out on March 20 when it originally shut down the shoot until April 3; crew will still be paid in full until that date. The furlough will last until at least the end of May, unless shooting resumes before then or the production does not move forward as originally planned."
