I see it as an anti-vaxxer talking point when they talk about not having to wear masks or get vaccinated because of 'inevitable herd immunity.'

If you're position is: "We need to get to herd immunity, and so, we need to get everyone vaccinated, even if it means a mandate, and people should still wear masks in crowded indoor environments until we reach herd immunity;" then we are on the same page.

Herd immunity is legit the end goal. The point where masks and such are a thing for the history books.

The top 5 states with the lowest Covid19 rate are now:
1. Connecticut at 11 per 100k
2. California at 17
3. Hawaii at 17
4. Lousiana at 18
5. Florida at 19

Yes Florida is now in the top 5 states and still dropping faster than 50% every 2 weeks. The shame is that every state is still over 10 per 100k.

Delta sucks. They will get there. Then we see for winter.

Michigan ain't looking so hot right now as far as their case trend goes.
Yeah wow, hadn't looked state by state in a while. Just did see how Arkansas, Alabama and Mississippi are dropping like a rock, but Michigan is the opposite.

Yeah, it seems the states that got hit hard this summer are all dropping by a ton. Makes sense. Then some other states that didn't get nailed have had flat trends through the summer and still do (see NY). Other states who were low during the summer seem like they are getting hit now. But not too many for now it seems. For those that are creeping up now, I hope it doesn't last long.

awhile back i mentioned 2 of my coworkers refused to get vaccinated after it was made mandatory where i work. they got their exemptions which created a little tension.
1 of them has a 9 year old daughter who was sent home from school recently for having covid/flu like symptoms & is isolating at home.
she was texted & should have the results this week. does this change the mind of my 1 coworker? not a bit. she’s too busy railing against getting the flu shot right now 🙄

This site provides a good visual.

Every location follows the same trend, in terms of a spike at the same time, but definitely big differences in the degree to which the most recent spike hit.

How did they get an exemption?

Well... that's good for FL right now. But, Florida's 7-day rate isn't too much significantly different than the top 10 states.

Of course, that sorta glosses over what has happened in the past 3 months:

Florida is 7th right now for recent COVID deaths per capita. Twice the national average.

And for per capita deaths since the pandemic began, FL moved from the bottom of the list to the top 7th.

I am only counting States and DX

I am only counting US States and DC. Florida is now 5th best. As for the past 3 months, yes Florida and the South spend more time indoors in the Summer due to the heat just like the North spends more time indoors during the Winter. Plus Florida is above the national average on total vaccinations for everyone, those over 12 and those over 65.

The State of Florida has not been perfect in handling Covid19 but no state has been. Owning homes in NJ, NY and Fl gives me an interesting perspective as Florida has done everything possible to keep the economy open while NJ and NY did everything they could do to prevent inflations by closing the economy down. Personally I believe keeping the economy open was the better choice. Florida didn't need the huge bailout that NY and NJ needed and fortunately received. However, Federal Tax payers and now and in the future going to have to pay those Bill's. Therefore in the near future we should conduct a full investigation into our response to Covid19 and what we should do in the future when we have another pandemic.
