Depends what the government does. The one plan for example was a check for $2,000 per adult and $1,000 per kid immediately with a 2nd check coming a month later if we are still locked down. For a family of 4 that’s $6,000. That’s a lot more than most average families need a month to survive, especially when you add to that the plans to put mortgages in forbearance for 60 to 90 days and also help renters and landlords out. A lot of people can get by on the government checks especially if they don’t have to pay a mortgage or rent. Most people also won’t be spending money on vacations or gas for your car or high price coffee at Starbucks.

Businesses are another story. There are plans to help small businesses too. Low or interest free short term loans can keep people from going bankrupt and if they know they don’t have to keep paying their staff it makes it easier. Once we come out of our homes business will benefit from some of the extra cash in consumer‘s hands. Not everyone will spend all their government money on food and staples. Better times ahead.

I do not think (and do not want) such a thing as $2k checks per adult + $1k per kid to happen.

I should add that I do realize the government is going to help... I just don’t think it’s going to be some magic wand. Businesses and families are going to suffer tremendously, the entire economy will.

A: In general, respiratory viruses are not known to be transmitted by blood transfusion, and there have been no reported cases of transfusion-transmitted coronavirus.

So I’m at risk sitting down in a restaurant but I’m not at risk going to give blood? Yeah that logic doesn’t add up.

Of course the amount of people going to give blood is going to be down when there is a suggested / almost forced quarantine!

Agreed. Too early to tell. S Korea is still behind China by a few weeks. China is showing no new domestic cases. We won’t be out of the woods completely without a vaccine but it was never about the disease being gone completely, just flattening the curve :)
Slight correction, China SAYS they aren't seeing any new domestic cases. Hopefully it is true but they also said there was no evidence of human to human transmission as thousands in Wuhan were being infected.

That's more than we'd need, and we'd pass on the love and order lots of take out from local restaurants. (We generally don't eat out much.) The ONE thing I'm really glad to see in our town FB group is people supporting local small businesses like crazy.

I’ve seen a few local places selling gift cards so they can keep paying staff. It’s a great idea. Basically an interest free crowd sourced loan that you pay back later when people come in to dine when this is all over. If you have a place you like you have to do your part to keep it in business.

Miami-Dade County has joined Miami Beach's order to shut down all lodging establishments - including hotels, short-term rentals and more - amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez and Miami Beach Mayor Dan Gelber announced Friday that hotels, suite hotels, hotel units within apartment-hotels, hostels, dormitories, motels and temporary vacation/short term rentals should immediately shut down operations and vacate guests from their premises by 11:59 p.m. on Monday, March 23.

Yes this a great thing. The office I work in has been ordering from a different local restaurant every day for our entire staff. We are really trying to help.

Exactly!!! My childhood bestie runs a catering company, and they're selling all kinds of family meals, etc. I'd love to give them some business along with many of the other local eateries, but until we know what kind of stimulus is coming, we're keeping our pocketbook zipped tight as hubby is out of work because he's at high risk from this virus.

That's huge in South Florida. Many snowbirds from Europe and Northern USA will need to find another place to live at short notice.

We absolutely need to do something and fast. One proposal was less at $1K for adults and $500 for kids but they all include checks in the mail as early as first week of April. The loan deferrals for mortgages and small businesses will also likely happen. You just tack the extra months onto the end of the loan. Rent is a little trickier for both houses and small businesses. The government could agree to bail those payments out too but a little more expensive.

Its not a magic wand, but it should avoid tremendous suffering (people starving, losing houses, evicted from homes, etc). It’s going to cost trillions (plural) when all is said and done. No way around it.

Mass exodus to Quebec.

Though I think a lot of them went home already over the past week of announcements. I haven’t seen Broward do this though, so who knows.

I’ve seen places doing that as well... most of the people they are advertising to are going to be affected by this so it seems a little odd.

OMG. Praying that he didn't pick up the virus and that he recovers! I'm so sorry to hear this.
I'm hoping everything goes okay. Definitely frustrating given the testing situation, just too dang risky right now for ppl to not think of the implications of their actions. Hospital is taking the precaution of whoever is his caretaker/family member at home after may have to self-isolate before his surgery and can be the only one at the hospital (Yet to be a definite). I already put my 11yo to home or her dads house only until this is past, can't risk her picking it up and spreading to others. She did get a phone so she can keep in touch with friends and grandparents at least.
