but it’s not an unreasonable concept...and we’d adapt.

time will tell
It is a totally unreasonable concept. And one which will not happen. Our society will not adapt to endlessly practicing masking, social distancing, and limitation on activities. Eventually, we will reach a point where people just will not do it and it becomes unenforceable. Like it or not, society will go back to 100% normal in the not too distant future.

No, it's not like saying that.

Disney will be 100% normal when the following happen:
  • No more mandatory masks, indoors or outdoors
  • No temperature check
  • Partitions and Plexiglas removed from rides, queues, cash registers, and transportation
  • Valet parking returns
  • All restaurants open (unless some have closed permanently)
  • All rides and shows open (unless some have closed permanently)
  • Daily housekeeping
I'm sorry but I can't take this serious if you leave out the biggest one:
  • Remove the Stargate and tacos in World Showcase Lagoon

I think activity levels and capacities will all return to normal at some point, but I wouldn't be surprised if a portion of the US population chooses to mask up in tight quarters like airplanes or when they're sick.

This though.

I live in the NYC area and can confirm I used to leave my house at 6:30am, and wouldn't get home until 8pm. Everything you've said is one thousand percent true in regards to the benefits of remote work, less sick time and PTO are being used, and productivity and morale are through the roof.

Higher ups have actually noticed such a huge boost in productivity that they sold our two-floor office space on 48th and 3rd. Our company has decided that this setup works better for the company, and the employees, so it's truly win-win. They acquired a much smaller space in a different part of town for any meetings that require in-person meeting, so that's an option when deemed necessary.

There's a long list of benefits of a remote workforce. Sure, there will be those sticklers feel like they need a full in-person workforce, but don't expect that to be the standard going forward. I truly think the fallout of Miss Covita really will impact society in so many ways we aren't fully aware of yet. I expect a much more hybrid working experience with the option of working from home a few days a week to be extremely popular going forward.
My daughter lives in the West Village, and works for a very large company as a manager in advertising. She was hired April 2020, and has never stepped inside the office. Her company sent her a laptop, a monitor, and she has been working and zoom meeting her team all this time from her apt. At first she hated it. Now she loves it. She works more hours than she is supposed to, but loves being able to jump on her Peleton during her lunch and getting a workout in. Her company is using her team as "guinea pigs"- probably in June her team will go in to the office 2 days a week every 2 weeks. She is thrilled with this setup, as she will see her team in person for the first time, and get some socialization. I am not sure if she will ever go full-time back into the office, as her company just sent her a new desk and computer chair for her apt.

I just wanted to post the official text from Broward County for the Phase 1 removal of restrictions. The county has already exceeded the 50% of adults vaccinated metric:

The rules and regulations stated in Chapters 2 through 32 of the CEO are the currently applicable rules and regulations. The CEO will be amended in the future to reflect the next planned substantive reduction, which will occur when Broward County achieves the following metrics:

1. At least 50% of adults in Broward County have received at least one vaccination shot; and 2. The COVID-19 test positivity rate for Broward County is less than 5%, measured on a 5- day rolling average, for 7 consecutive days, or the new confirmed cases in Broward County per 100,000 people, as measured by the Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center, is less than 15, measured on a 5-day rolling average, for 7 consecutive days, whichever occurs first.

When the above metrics are met, an amendment to this CEO will be issued to effectuate the following reductions in COVID-19 regulations: • Remove the six feet Social Distancing requirements for Restaurants and food service Establishments, outdoor gatherings, hotels, and Function Spaces;
• Remove capacity limitations on Restaurants and food service Establishments, Retail Establishments, Movie Theaters, Auditoriums, Playhouses, Concert Halls, and Pari-Mutuel Establishments, Community Rooms, Museums, and Function Spaces;
• Remove the gathering limitations on private residences, outdoor non-professional Organized Sports, and Function Spaces.

It seems that the version adopted by the County Commission essentially will remove most restrictions once either the new case positivity drops below 5% or the daily new cases per 100k drops below 15 (roughly 300 cases) either being a five day rolling average for seven consecutive days.

With over 50% of adults vaccinated, I can't imagine it will take more than a 2-3 weeks for one of those triggers to occur.

I think it would be an interesting experience to do a Zoom meeting that was open to anyone here on the forums who wanted to chat live. It would be interesting to see how that kind of discussion actually compares to what goes on in these threads. :)
I've got Zoom for work background set to the Millennium Falcon engine room, between that and my machine noises in the background meetings get interesting lol

You’re making demands...not acknowledging possibilities.

it’s likely moot and everything will fall back to some equilibrium. But not some type of guaranteed natural order.

and if “society” has a spokesman...can I apply too?

Good God man, stop giving them ideas.
But there could be fun preshow announcements!

”Hey, Miguel, can we taco ‘bout how HarmoniUs sponsored by Old El Paso is starting in just 15 minutes?!”
”Hola, Marta, actually, it is nacho job to announce that!”
Sonia: “Miguel! That chica is jalapeño business!”

You know that's why all this disruption happened don't you? Once they got the ring joined on the barge the whole space time continuum warped so covid crept in and our democracy was tested. Even backstage the fabric ripped asunder to unleash the furies. (or furries)
It is all the gate's fault therefore it must be destroyed so we can live.....

This is a great step and I hope other Counties follow. These types of events completely remove the inconvenience factor for people. The only down side is that if a large percentage of your workforce is vaccinated on the same day, there may be staffing issues the day after shot #2.
Ours is set up for Fridays for both shots. And no plans to work either of those weekends. I guess they could set up on a date or dates that would account for possible attendance issues.

I made that same suggestion a handful of days ago. A little planning and there's virtually no need to miss days from work. (Maybe a few hours to get jabbed, but that's better than days.)

2.8M doses administered yesterday. 1.1M were new first doses. 55.4% of adults have at least 1 dose. We have now exceed 100M people fully vaccinated or 39% of adults.

By Monday we should reach 45% of the total population with at least 1 dose. Looking back in time when Israel hit 45% of the population with 1 shot they hit an inflection point and cases started to decline pretty rapidly. Here‘s to hoping we follow their path.
