....and today I just got let-go from work after nearly 10 years of service!! It just keeps getting worse. Budget cuts galore in this crazy world we're living in. What a year so far. I was given a decent package but still BLINDSIDED. Wow.

I'm still holding onto hope along with a side of that Disney pixie dust magic, that my April 25th to May 10th Polynesian vacation can somehow still happen. This virus better get controlled. I need this trip more than ever now o_O

Not that you're gloating or enjoying other peoples misery or anything
I'm not, though, and nothing in my one sentence pointed to me enjoying the state we've reached or gloating. Just because you don't like the truth that people we wrong doesn't mean I'm being mean by pointing it out. Go feel bad at someone else.

If anything had so many people not acted like this was nothing for so long we might not be where we are today

23% of Italy's population is over 65 years old and it's the older and already unhealthy that are at risk. It's apples to oranges to paint with a broad brush. Italy has a much greater chance for dire consequences based on their population. That's why they're doing that. The media is making it out like it's an automatic death sentence to all who get it. It's not. You literally have a 99.5% chance of living. That's hardly something worth the general population getting in a tizzy over. If businesses want to do what they feel is best for them then I have no problem with that but it's the fear mongering coverage of it and the idiots that get their "news" from social media that are making this teeny tiny mole hill into Everest meets McKinley. I'm not a gambler but I would almost bet that not one single person on here knows one single person that has this. I also would bet that most people on here eat unhealthy in general and have zero fear of diabetes even though it kills hundreds of thousands every year. So does heart disease. So do strokes. So does cancer. Yet how many are taking drastic measures to fight against those things that kill WAY more people every year AND day than this thing will ever dream of. I understand people fearing the "unknown" but this thing is so out of proportion it's not even funny. WHY do people need stockpiles of toilet paper for a disease that might make your nose run?! It would be like saying "well my diabetes is taking my eyesight so I guess I better stock up on every book in the library..." People are acting irrationally.

We also have a 40% obesity rate in the US for adults over 20 years old, Italy's is between 10-18%. Total population over 65 in America is only 6% lower than Italy's. We have at risk groups here as well, and it's not appropriate to dismiss the concerns of it spreading in the US just because of Italy's larger elder population. I personally don't see much news making it sound like an automatic death sentence - I think that is a huge generalization - but if you are seeing that, I agree that it shouldn't be portrayed that way. However, we have our own set of issues in the US and it's not just with who is at risk, it has to do with our supply chain, ability to respond and test for the virus, and medical infrastructure. For example - schools are starting to be closed down in many states. Over 35% of medical professionals have children that are in schools. If nurses and lower-wage hospital assistants that cannot afford daycare now have to be home with their children when they'd otherwise be in school, our hospitals take a huge hit while treatment is needed for those with the virus. Not only that, but now a taxed and shortened medical staff means less availability for the countless other patients with other medical issues.
We're testing between 5-18 people per million people in the US. Comparatively, the UK is at 347, Italy at 826, and South Korea at 3,692.
I think people have a right to be concerned for not only how our system has handled the situation - especially since we had much more time to react than places like Italy - but also because our infrastructure isn't ready for a wide spread issue like this to occur, which causes unease for a lot of people.
I do actually have a friend that got the virus up in Portland. Good thing you are not a gambler!

I guess read the fine, small print that tells you no extension
Disney officials said on its website, “Walt Disney World annual passes will be extended by the number of days the parks are closed, March 16, 2020 through March 31, 2020.”

I guess reading that fine small print would have been wrong huh???
Its ok to respond a bit nicer to some legitimate questions
