Coral Reef disappointment

I went to the Coral Reef a couple of weeks ago and I was very disappointed. This had always been one of my favorite restaurants, however, on my most recent trip I found that the menu was extremely small (much smaller than before) and not very interesting. I got the Lobster Bisque as a started and got sick from it and I hadn't even finished it because it had the consistency of glue. Also, I got the Wave for dessert and the dried cherry compote was missing! I am wondering if this was a fluck (I really hope it was) or if this restaurant has really gone downhill?

BTW-the rest of the food I had on my trip was wonderful as always!!!!

you're not the first person i've heard say this. i don't eat there anymore, either.

Yet again this board comes through for me! Thanks for saving my family the disappointment.

Any suggestions for a similar theme outside the parks? I had thought my kids would really get a kick out of the tank but perhaps there are other places to get a similar experience.

TIA

Not that this helps you at all but I was in Nashville, TN last October and at the Opry Mills Mall (or whatever it is called-Holy Lots of Crap, Batman) there was a restaurant that we ate at called the Aquarium. Same concept-but 100x's better!!!

I ate there in 2004 with my family and vowed never to go back again. What I've seen is that the meal portions were extemely small and not very tasty. To go along with that, our whole party of 6 were dissappointed with all of our meals. There is too many other good places to eat, especially right there at epcot. I for one will never go back again.

Landry's has pretty much all but admitted that it lifted its concept off the Coral Reef. I'm surprised you found it better than Coral Reef. Most people I have talked to have been very disappointed with the food.

I am sad to hear about Coral Reef, though. Last time I was there (Dec. 2002), I had one of the better steaks I had had on property. We were at the window tables. Great meal.

Reef a roo!

Hey, I was at the Coral Reef for the first time just this past February. I found it to be pricey yes, but the food was very good. I had the Mahi Mahi with Crabcakes, and it was great. My wife had a Steak there as she isn't seafood-crazy and she really thought it was one of the best steaks she's ever had at Disney World and this was her 15th trip. Her parents had been to WDW close to 25 times and this was their first trip to the Coral Reef and they were both impressed with the seafood as well! We don't get a lot of Seafood up here in Ontario, but we have had enough to know that the Coral Reef was worth the time and money and the ambiance was very good.

I'd say it's worth it!

I had calamari. It's hard to screw up calamari. I thought the atmosphere was what made it better than CR.

Sittle, I'm glad to hear you had a good experience! Restores some faith in the Coral Reef!

I am a huge seafood buff... but three negative experiences at the Corral Reef in three visists is enough to keep me away. It's probably the only place in WDW that I dispise (and that's terrible considering the wonderful theme).
