Literally nothing. It was just pitch darkness up the stairs and then, where the eyes now blink & become the living walls of the mansion, you once had this adorning the top of the stairs:

In the hallway with all of the door knockers there is a portrait of someone with a noose around their neck and a knife. The story goes that the person hanging at the top of the stretching room cut themselves down.
