Contemporary?

I need an opinion/help. I am planning a trip to Disney in August, but I'm uncertain as to which resort I should choose. I am interested in staying at the Contemporary resort because I have never stayed there, and it seems like a nice resort. As you can imagine the Contemporary isn't very cheap and I wanted to know whether it is a good place to stay before I dish out the dough! Does anyone have any opinions or reservations about the resort? Is it worth the money? I'd appreciate any advice you can give. Thanks!

The Contemporary has three things; location, location, location. Other than that it's not worth the money. I speak from experience. :animwink:

I couldn't agree more.

It was "contemporary" when it was built - now it's OLD. Needs serious refurb IMHO.

Go to the Polynesian or Wilderness Lodge. You'll be alot happier.

I second that.

I would suggest trying a moderate resort (Like Port Orleans or Coronado Springs). And since you are a Floridian you can ask for the special rate they have for us in the summer. It's $84 (plus tax) a night, and they are just as nice, and maybe even nicer, I think.

If you need the code, ask me, or just visit www.disneyworld.com for more information.

Hope this helps!!

If you go deluxe, GO FOR WILDERNESS LODGE. Possibly the best themed Disney resort, absolutely wonderful. If you dine at Artists Point make sure you get the Cedar Plank Salmon and a Berry Cobbler

I personally like the Contemp. It has the perfect amount of Disney Magic. Not too Much, not to little. I only booked the Boardwalk for my next trip as the Contemp was sold out for AP rates.

I would say try it, Granted its old, the rooms were just Refurbed 2-3 years ago, and you have perfect transportation access.

I would go for the Contemporary :)

The Poly is about as old as the Contemporary, and the Wilderness Lodge, while very well themed, has absolutely retched transportation.

For me, the Contemp IS Disney ... if staying there is an option, just do it!

Have stayed in the Contemp, Poly and the Wilderness...which is where we will be again next week.

We liked being on the monorail in both the Contemp and Poly...but we like the WL the most. Theme is great, so are the restaurants. We take the launch from the dock to the MK and can change to the monorail from there. Have never liked bus rides, but we have never found them to be that bad, but waits could be longer in the busy summer. If you have kids there is more to do in the WL, but my girls (15 & 8) loved the pool in the Poly.

As for money? Is any Disney hotel worth the money...only you can answer that. We always stay inside because for us that's just part of the "magic". Have fun no matter where you decide to stay...let us know how you make out.

8 days till WDW!:sohappy:

Polynesian

Contemporary just seems cold to me. Polynesian is just as convenient, you can visit the Contemporary any time without actually staying there. Poly might be old but it doesn't look it. They are refurbishing all the longhouses and their restaurants are great. The best thing about staying on the monorail line is you have restaurants in three different hotels that are very convenient to get to.

We stayed at the Contemporary last Jan. through SOG. At that price $105 it was a great stay. Not sure I'd pay more than that for it unless I had young children, the proximity to MK can't be beat. I'm sure the Tower rooms would be great if money were no object. The hotel has great transportation, I thought the food court left a lot ot be desired, the Outer Rim lounge is very nice and of course the restaurants are quite good. The pool is sort of boring. If I was paying a regular price I'd go back to the Polynesian, it's got the monorail and a much more relaxiing atomsphere.

We had a room in the North Garden Wing. There was a hammock right outside the sliders and a sandy beach nearby which was nice when our oldest was little (4 at the time of that trip.) I just don't care for that decor, but the hubby does. We talk about going back, but haven't yet. Next trip we are going to try the Beach Club...will be checking it out when we go to Cape May for the clam bake.:slurp:

The Contemporary is my favourite Disney resort. In fact, it's my favourite hotel anywhere. I've stayed there 3 times; twice in the garden wings and once in the tower. I stayed in the tower in May (room 4741, 11th floor) and had an amazing view. To me, it's worth the money to have that view. I could see the Magic Kingdom, Grand Floridian, Polynesian, TTC, and with binoculars I could see monorails in the MK and TTC stations, and what I think was the top of Blizzard Beach (correct me if that's impossible). It was also nice to have the convenience of the monorail right in the hotel. I personally love the arcade and snack area. I like the theme of the hotel, even though some people think it's cold. Granted, with hotels such as the Polynesian, Port Orleans, and Wilderness Lodge, the Contemporary's theme does seem a bit blah, but I like it, that's just my opinion. I loved sitting out on the balcony just watching things happen outside the hotel.

That said, I'm really crazy over the tower rooms, but not so much the garden rooms. If a garden room is all your budget allows, do look into other hotels. It's a pain to have to walk through to the main building for everything. :)

I'm booking the Polynesian for December. :)

I say stay at the Contemporary once, then judge for yourself if you like it. It has alot to offer... 6 shops, 3 great restaurants, 3 snack bars, 2 lounges,a marina, a beach, a health club, 2 whirlpools, tennis courts,2 pools..one with a waterslide, a great playground for the kiddies and an awesome Game arcade, the largest on property.

I dare anyone to stand on the 4th floor concourse and not be in awe as the monorail passes through the Resort.

Maybe The Polynesian has better theming, but if you stay there make sure you have a room near the Great Cerimonial house or else you will find yourself walking in the Florida heat and Humidity alot.

I visited the Wilderness lodge and found that much like The Animal Kingdom Lodge, although the theming is magnificent, I felt trapped, isolated, and at the mercy of the Disney buses.

That monorail is really handy and is always a deciding factor on our Disney Trips.

Life is short..try ALL the Disney Resorts and THEN decide what YOU like best.:animwink: :)

How long are you staying? If you're going to be there for awhile, then I suggest staying at the Contemporary for a few days and then switching to another resort that's been recommended here. Then you can compare and decide for yourself.

Also in the rain, and I got turned around (as did my daughter) at night after a trip to the snack bar. The theme is nice, the place is beautiful, but its not for me.

Polynesian

We had a room right near the ceremonial house and then we had one next to the TTC. We loved them both for different reasons. We have now decided we won't request anymore as there are good in all sections.

The last time we were in Tahiti which was close to the Epcot monorail. We loved that side also because that's where we got off instead of the Ceremonial House and it was great! We never had a problem and we always sent the dad to get the drinks worked out fine for us since my DH loves to walk!

we just returned from a trip in May we didnt stay there this time but have.

I would agree with Woody the location is geat and there are some great restuarants but theres no real theme.
If you want deluxe they have made some nice updates at the Poly and I hear and saw the AKL (was amazing )
We are going next year and staying at the beach club we checked it out in May it was amazing
there really are so many options now yake your time andyou should get a great rate anywhere as a resident
