Contemporary?

I need an opinion/help. I am planning a trip to Disney in August, but I'm uncertain as to which resort I should choose. I am interested in staying at the Contemporary resort because I have never stayed there, and it seems like a nice resort. As you can imagine the Contemporary isn't very cheap and I wanted to know whether it is a good place to stay before I dish out the dough! Does anyone have any opinions or reservations about the resort? Is it worth the money? I'd appreciate any advice you can give. Thanks!

If you're bringing children, the walk way to the Magic Kingdom
is very convenient. It's less than a 10 minute walk to the
Magic Kingdom from the Contemporary Resort. This will save
time if the children need naps.

Reading all of your replys about Contemporary has been most helpful. We are taking our boys (8, 5, 4 & 2) for the first time September 20th. We are staying at the Contemporary. Because of the Fairy Tale package we were able to stay on the Tower Club floor and pay the same price we were going to pay for the Garden Rooms. Can anyone tell me anything about the Tower Club. My other question was if anyone knows how much to tip the concierge. Thank you!

Hi.
The TC Floor isnt all that great, free water bottles, continental breakfast, and snacks in the afternoon.. Concierge is good with last minute ressies etc...

For our Next Trip after this week we will be booking the 14th Floor concierge.

Here is a pic of the 12th Floor lounge that I took last year

My wife and I have stayed in the Tower Club twice.

The view is fantastic no matter which side of the building you're on.
The Tower Club perks are'nt all that great but they will save you money if you take advantage of them.

They put out a great breakfast spread every morning between 6 and 9AM. There's coffee, milk, and orange juice to drink, Fresh fruit, toast, all kinds of donuts, cereal, and every thing else you need for breakfast except meat and eggs. We ate there every morning except one and didn't have to spend a dime for breakfast.

There are also snacks put out in the afternoon but we usually missed out on them becasue we were in the parks.

There's a turn down service with a little Mickey chocolate put on your pillows. I saved all mine and brought them home for gifts when we got home. :)

As far as tipping conceirge I always tipped a $5.00 minimum adding more if the favor was more difficult. I've heard stories of people who tipped $10 or $20 to the conceirge because he or she got them into Cinderella's Castle for a meal.

If you have anymore questions about the Tower Club feel free to PM as I may have left some things out. :hammer:

Enjoy your stay!

The only noise I had in my room was that of the noisy kids from next door running and screaming through the hallway. ;) I stayed on the 11th floor, right above the monorail platform, and I didn't hear a peep from it in my room. :)

Actually on the few times I've stayed in the tower rooms the Monorail never bothered me. It's very quiet and what little sound you hear is actually quite soothing.

However...If you try to go to bed too early, all the music and singing and dancing coming from Chef Mickeys can keep you awake. ::waving napkin:::brick:

The Electrical Water Pageant is noisy too if you're on the Bay Lake side. It goes on at around 9:00 PM I think and it doesn't last too long so it's not too bad.

I Found that the MK side was noisy in the morning due to the heavy morning traffic (busses etc) the Bay Lake side is quiter.

The doors in the rooms do a good job sealing out the noise

Thank you for your help.:) I have heard that staying in the tower club rooms aren't that great of a deal; however, with 6 of us not having to pay for breakfast is a money saver right there. I know next time we will not be staying on any concierge level because they will count my youngest as a guest. So I may as well take advantage of this now. Thanks for the pic. I love any pics of WDW. It helps to keep the excitement level up (53 days to go!:D )

Wow, the contemporary sounds like a cool hotel to stay in. The only time I've been in it was in '85 when we rode the monorail from the Poly to MK....We went through the hotel but never stayed there. My moms so funny...my dad asked my mother and I if we wanted to stay in a different hotel like the Beach Club next time we go back, my mom said no way and told my father she now loves the Boardwalk and will stay no where else. I've always thought the Contemp. was a cool hotel but like I and everyone else has said it needs updating....it doesn't look Contemporary anymore.

The Poly is about as old as the Contemporary, and the Wilderness Lodge, while very well themed, has absolutely retched transportation.

For me, the Contemp IS Disney ... if staying there is an option, just do it!

FYI The Contempoary and the Poly were built in 1971 the wilderness lodge was built around 1990, It was built after the Swan and Dolphin

As far as justifying the the resort name and age, isn't really fair, the name Contempoary relates more to the style of archatecture of the building, being that it is built of mostly concreate and glass, where as the other styles are more traditional if in just exterior appearance only.

But...does that concrete and glass look still look contemporary?

And even though the Polynesian and Contemporary have been around for the same amount of time. They have updated the Great Ceremonial House and other outdated parts of the Polynesian. So you really don't see too many hints of the 70's (except for some of the fonts in the resort). The Contemporary still has that 70's look. So even though I agree that the Contemporary represents Disney I don't think that it would be my first choice of resort. It just needs a little update to become "contemporary" again.

Contemporary as in style and design...not stick built, not Greek revival, Colonial or Georgian. It is decorated in Art Deco style...still very popular (think Miami Beach). Not contemporary as in today/now.
