Does each room come with its own camera man?

Sleek-looking. Not sure yet whether I like them better. But I think so.

Does anyone remember the fact that the Contemporary's rooms were originally removable by crane (just as they were put in), for redecoration like this? The building was built first, with slots for the rooms; and the rooms were built and furnished, then hoisted by crane and slid into place. (There is film footage of this, which was shown as part of the 25th anniversary celebration in 1996-'97.) The original idea was that they could be exchanged or taken out for redecoration in times like this! Wouldn't it be cool to watch if they really did this today?!

When I worked at the Poly. we called the rooms plain "ugly". It is remarkable what the hotels make and the rooms are last to change. I know its the dollar that is first. But I am happy that the Contemp. we have a facelift it needs it . It is so 70's !!

Rooms at the Poly and Contemp cannot be changed out as originally planned as the foundations settled in an unexpected manner, shifting the entire "grid" in which the rooms are installed and in some cases they are also "rusted" (moreso calcium deposits and the like from humidty than actual rust) into place. I do beleive they tried at some point and found this out.

You know, I don't know about that. The footage was shown during the 25th anniversary as part of the presentation at the old Walt Disney Story area (now a camera shop) right to you right as you enter MK on Main Street in Town Square.

Maybe someone has it on an anniverasary tribute video from that celebration... or maybe (hoping) they will put it on a WD Treasures about the WDW someday (hint, hint to Disney...)

Anyone out there have this footage?

BTW, expect Chef Mickeys to take over the area currently occupied by The Outer Rim and Concourse Steakhouse, as these outlets will be moved to the first floor.

Here is a US Steel Promo Video from 1971 that shows the rooms being installed in the building.

It was always my understanding that the rooms were never meant to be removed from the building as it would require to much defacing of the front. It would be faster and cheaper to remodel they way they have been in the past.

Robfasto,

I just wanted to let you know that you have done a great job with your site. I enjoy it very much.

I have some great pics from Dec 04. If need need anything, just let me know.

i really loved the design of the rooms of the contemporary when i went a while ago. I am kind of disapointed that they are refurbishing...but at the same time it looks incredible. disney always can make things better...other than SGE...but thats another story
