Contemporary North Wing - Just Wondering

Just wondering how far along they are going to be with the new tower before announcing the addition of Contemporary DVC? From the latest pictures it looks like the grounds are taking shape very much like the pictures of the plans that had been posted on the boards a while back. I think this is going to be a pretty cool addition. Imagine the view of the fireworks over MK from the top of the tower :D

Anybody wanna take bets on how many points a MK-view will go for? I'd bet a value-season studio weeknight would be 18-20.

First post here :)

Anyways I just returned from Disney a few days ago. Spent 9 nights at Caribbean Beach. My family bought into DVC while we were down there. We were DVC members in the past, in fact we bought in when DVC first started back in 91. Were members until 2001 when we had to sell due to financial issues we were having.

We decided to go on the DVC tour cuz we were interested in buying into it again. We loved the room layout of the new AK villas. The models they have built at the DVC center at SS are fabulous.

I asked two different people during our tour about the "rumors" I had heard about the new DVC tower at Contemporary. Although they couldnt actually confirm it and tell me its definetly gonna happen (for obvious reasons) they pretty much told me indirectly that the rumor is true. I wouldnt expect it to be announced until most of the AK villas are sold out.

Anyone who works at the DVC kiosks have heard nothing, so it's looking to me that they're just refurbishing. I'm not even sure it will be DVC. I hope it is, but I think we're all jumping the gun here.

Front line CMs are often the last to know (not counting bus drivers, who know even later than that). Plus, there's a heckuva lot of difference between "just refurbishing" and tearing the building down to dirt. I can't see them NOT doing DVC there.

Supposedly they look at where members are spendingthe most points on non-DVC reservations. It has overwhelmingly been at AKL. Hence the new DVC there. I would imagine that either Contemporary or Grand Flo is next on the list after that, and it obviously doesn't appear that anything's happening over at the Flo.

I kinda wonder if they're considering opening them up as rental suites, as opposed to being part of DVC. Seems like that's the way things are going, families preferring to be in one suite, versus adjoining rooms.

I am a DVC Rep.

Here's our official answer.

We understand and appreciate everyone's curiousity about our business. At this time we do not have any announcements to make. We continue our focus on Saratoga Springs Resort and the new Animal Kingdom Villas. Thank you and have a magical day.

Whatever is next for DVC you won't have to ask one of us, it will be all over the OFFICIAL Disney publications, trust me, whatever is next we will not keep it a secret that you have to ask about. If it is not official don't ask a CM at our desks.

I thought the family suites were going in at Pop Century? I would say it's a much better place for family suites, since property near MK is quite valuable, in my book.

I'm guessing rooms will start at 25-30 points per night, and higher amounts for MK-view rooms. This will be the creme-de-la-creme of DVC resorts, IMHO, and they are going to charge points accordingly.

For the amount of time I actually spend looking out my window makes the view is not too important. A nice view is always nice for the "Oh WOW" factor but to spend a lot of extra points on the view is not worth it to me.

Over on one of the other fan boards, a member who is just as respected there as Corrus and Lee are here is saying that the point purchase price (for buying in) will be around $150/pt.

I heard that the unfinished half of Pop Century will most likely be suites too, they're just waiting to see how much of a demand there is or will be for the All-Star Suites.

Meanwhile, I definitely think there's a market for higher-end suites at the Contemporary. They won't come cheap, but a family that's already willing to pay for 2 adjoining rooms at a deluxe resort probably won't balk at paying that much or a little more for a suite within walking distance of the MK, know what I mean?

hey

just wanted to put the rumors to rest...the new section as of the current plans will not be vacation club...because of the current structures it wasn't able to be refubished...the new sections will have a redesign in the room layout as will create more rooms with a five story structure in replace of the 3 story that was there...because of the structure they couldn't add on so they had to knock it down

Seriously, the shape is circular like the concept art and renderings we've seen posted. You can go stand on the concourse and look for yourself, but you can already see the shape.

And then there were also those blueprints or official documentation or whatever it was that called it "Contemporary DVC wing."

Unless you've seen these personally, I'm pretty sure they're a rumor.

Rani8600 and I were told by a good friend of the family (our grandparents' best friends as a matter of fact, who work at Disney) that they are not being used by DVC. They were going to try, but eventually decided against it. They are going to be regular Contemporary rooms, only 5 stories instead of the original 3. :)

We all know that you can't take a Cast Members word as gospel, for they have usually only been told by someone who usually doesn't know the truth either.
