Contemporary Computers and Cameras

Heya All!

I understand they are putting in computers in the rooms at the Contemporary, where I will be staying in September :D . Is there a charge for internet access? Also, can you hook a camera to those computers via a USB cable and download the pictures from your camera to it? I'd like to create an email attachment to send to myself. I may not be able to bring a laptop to store images once my camera gets full, and hate paying guest services to burn a disk for me. Is it possible to use the room computers this way?

I honestly don't know, but I suspect the answer is no.

If they provide USB connections for the computers, any guest could load any of a number of really nasty viruses onto the computers [maliciously or unintentionally, it's still there]. The IT infrastructure required to control and protect the computers would be quite expensive to maintain.

From what I've read about this I suspect no. I think your going to get a very limited view of the internet on these computers.

Usually such computers are Terminals or other thin-clients.. where you are actually remote consoled to another machine. I wouldn't count on any end-user interaction with the hardware.

Flash cards are stupid cheap these days.. just buy another 2gig card. You're going to have a hard time filling up that much storage in a short period of time!

I was staying in The Contemporary Resort South Garnen Wing when the computers were installed. We got to use it for free because at the time it was in it's experimental stage.

From what I saw, the computers were going to be for sending emails, and checking email. They were also a way for Disney to show you whats going on in the parks when and where. It's also another way for Disney to try and sell you a DVC membership.

I didn't see any camera card slots or usb ports but then again, I wasn't looking for them so I can't be of much help there.

I believe the charge for using the computers was going to be $10 per 24 hour period. The computer itself tells you how much time you have left on your 24 hours.

This was last December and they were still tweaking the system so some stuff could have been added/removed since then.
I hope this helps.

This is going to be the best solution, both short and long term. A nice big card costs what a few rolls of film did a few years ago. And multiple cards is good for preservation as well.

You will save a lot of headache and long-term expense by looking for sales at places like Staples or Office Depot on cards, or finding deals on eBay. I just picked up a 2GB SD card for less than $25, including priority shipping.

I'm pretty sure the computers are just for sending/receiving email, and checking out Disney related sites. They don't want you screwing around with stuff. You're better off either purchasing another memory card or bringing your laptop.
