I am running into a bit of a brick wall, so I am coming to you guys for some advice and help.
I am an attorney licensed to practice in Louisiana. In May I resigned from my position at a local law firm (nothing bad happened, but I just needed to get out of the law firm litigation atmosphere). I am still good friends with my former bosses, and I know they would have nothing but good things to say about me. I don't believe in burning bridges.
While I am looking and thinking about where to take my career, I thought this may be the time for me to fulfill a dream by getting a job at Disney in Florida and moving my family (DW, DD) to Florida. We are huge Disney fans. It is my dream come true, and my wife keeps talking about trying to get a job in Disney, if we move out to Florida.
It looks like most of the Attorney-type jobs are based out of California, so I have applied for a paralegal position in the Central Florida area (as well as some other positions related to the legal business). I know that as a paralegal (or some other position), I will be taking a pretty big pay cut, but I learned (the hard way) that you sometimes need to follow your heart instead of your pocket book.
My problem is that I applied for these positions over a month ago (some of them even longer than that), and when I look at the status of my application it is either at "submitted," i.e., it appears to not have moved forward at all, or at "in progress," which is the next little block up on the progress bar of the career services website, if you know what I mean.
Here are my questions: (1) is it too soon for me to contact HR and maybe ask them what is going on, and maybe try to push a little for them to look at my info; (2) if it is too soon, when; and (3) if I should contact them, how do I do it? Does anyone have a number to contact them? How should I try to get to an HR clerk who can move my application forward?
Any help you can offer is most appreciated. I just don't know where to turn anymore, but my love of Disney and the possibility of working there is making me impatient.
