Construction

Does anyone know what the construction is between Osprey and Fort Wilderness? I'm hoping it's something more than another DVC area!

Wow -

I just saw the concept art for the first time. I didn't know that they would be building directly on Bay Lake!

From the concept art - we will be able to see this resort from the Ft. Wilderness beach and probably from Wilderness Lodge and the Contemporary also. :hurl:

As a frequent visitor to Ft. Wilderness since 1973, I am very saddened by this.

So much for the nice quite little corner of 'old Disney'

back to lurking I go...

Thanks for the info Steve!

That is quite an assumption. Of course we were also told by some posters that the new resorts at LBV would be visible from WS and that turned out not to be true.

No it's not. Go look at the link that Steve posted.
If you are familiar with the area - you can see that it is being built on the shore of Bay Lake. It will 100% be visible from Ft. Wilderness since it is right next door. I said probably for Lodge and Contemporary since I'm not sure of the sight lines.

Is it the end of the world - no... but it is going to take away from one of the quieter areas of Walt Disney World.

Actually I went to the beach at FW to scope out this exact possibility (and to get some decent food). It probably won't be visible from the beach. It really depends on where exactly it ends up on the shoreline. The only place it will definitely be visible is on the boat dock.

I would love for WDW to roll back the clock to about 1982 (new Epcot) and freeze that version in place but at least I have those memories.

While the concept art shows the hotel on *a* lake, I'm 99% sure that the lake shown is *not* Bay Lake.

I'll have to go look for it when I get home and have more time, but somewhere online I came across the proposed layout of the property. The hotel building in the concept art will be located on a much smaller lake/pond toward the center of the Four Seasons plot of land, and is well away from the shore of Bay Lake. The single and multi-family vacation homes mentioned are to be closer to Bay Lake than the main building.

So - we can get a clear shot at the abomination with our missles - right?

Missles?!!...really??!!...yikes.

I was under the impression this new resort is being built between Grand Floridian and the waterway where they keep the electrical water parade.

I agree it should just stay quiet and peaceful but they need to rebuild River Country so it can be used again.
Miss the steam train also. Oh well.

I am sure they will figure out a way to keep both resorts from each other.

From what I can gather, the Four Seasons resort will be off to the North East of FW and between Osprey and Bay Lake. It's a big enough piece of property that they probably have the pie shaped piece to the north of Bay Lake too. I haven't figured out where the access road to the resort will be. -

trust me... it's being ripped apart as we speak.. of course, part of it could be because of the planned residential acreage sell off.. but who knows..

Correct. It's being built ON TOP of where the Eagle Pines course used to be. That's the course that was closer to Vista Blvd. The northern course way out in the woods (and closer to Bay Lake) is Osprey Ridge, which is still in-use, and will continue to be used after Four Seasons opens. (Whether they'll keep the same clubhouse or build a new one as part of the construction remains to be seen)

To the next of my knowledge, there are no plans for the wooded area between Bay Lake and the Osprey Ridge course.

Thanks so much for your insight and links everyone. I see from the other art - linked above at bigfloridacountry and the sentinel - that it is indeed NOT being built on the shore of Bay Lake but a smaller lake near the golf course. That is what I originally thought but the art Steve linked seemed to show paint a different picture (pun intended)
Sorry for my first response. I just have such an emotional attachment to this area :)

Thanks again everyone.

Yes, Thanks. I've been trying to figure out exactly where it would be from NH since they announced it was coming. Easier said than done.

maps.live.com should update their Disney Property Bird's Eye views once a month.

Could you elaborate on where "over here" is? What "it's being ripped apart as we speak" means? Perhaps a location relative to FW Campgrounds would help...

My wife & I saw LARGE Water lines going into this area in 11/08, but saw land clearing closser to Osprey (and across the road) in 4/09...

In the aerial photo posted, the road along the bottom is Vista Blvd.
The edge of Fort Wilderness can just be seen to the western edge of the photo. (You can actually see a couple of the campsite loops in the upper left of the photo, and the purple Mickey head and the lot to the east of it is the registration area for the campground).

The area that's been cleared is generally in the "wishbone" section of the two canals, due east of the clubhouse. Just a guess here, but I wonder if the lake seen in the concept art will be an expanded version of the pond due east of the current golf clubhouse (not the darker water that's part of the canal, but rather the separate pond that shows as dark green to the east of that in the photo)

All of the sewer and water pipes that have been laid along Vista Blvd and Bonnet Creek Pkwy is just upgrades to be able to handle the increased water and sewer requirements of the new property.
