Construction North of MK

There seems to be some construction going on North of the Central Shops and I haven't heard anything of it.

Wikimapia shows that it's outside of RCID, but it looks like it might be apartments?

Does anyone know more about this?

According to the tax maps it's Sago Kay Apartments:

"Sago Cay Apartments
This 47-acre project is located immediately adjacent to the main entrance for the 62,000 employees of Disney World Theme Park in Orlando. Mr. Wright purchased the property from Centex and had it rezoned and planned for proposed 504 apartment units.Closed all cash. Currently working with Orange County, FL Senior Staff and County Commission to use the site as a pilot project Work Force Housing Facility for Disney employees."

That was the 2010 plan. I do not know who the current property owner is but it is being managed by Riverstone Residential Group. I doubt it is much of a "Work Force Housing Facility for Disney employees". The rent is certainly not in the price range of the minimum wage Disney worker unless three or four share a unit. I hear a one bedroom is about $1000.

Good catch. Seems like a kind of strange location to put apartments if they aren't for employees though.

According to the rental magazines several hundred apartments are located near this project in the $6 to $800 range for a one BR apt. I agree with you it is a great location for a Disney worker but I don't see a couple or room mates consisting of two front line cast even qualifying for one of these apartments as the only guarantee full time workers at Disney have is a 32 hour schedule. I believe the local market here asks for about three times the rent in monthly income to qualify. Cast can ask for more hours but Disney only has to give them 32 hours in the slower parts of the year. Two workers at 32 or even 40 at Disney pay won't make it. A lot of new construction is going up in the area for apartments, condos, and apartments.

One of the renters better work some place else.

Surely a cast member can afford a $6 apartment.

... Yes. On a lighter note, they are moments (days) away from having Westclock finally expanded to potentially double it's size in parking.

And lets all hope the folks who excavated, prepped and paved this lot ensured it DRAINS PROPERLY!

I did not realize they were talking about an off-property construction project. I thought they meant the parking construction there... which still isnt going to help. They should have build a garage.

I know it's the thing now for corporations to underschedule and underpay staff as much as possible, but sheesh. 32 hours is full time? And they don't make enough to *split* a $700/month apartment?

The apartments are right outside Disney property, on Reams Road. It is Windermere Cay Apartments. They used to have a sign that said "Coming Fall 2012" and well that came and passed. The "Fall 2012" is now covered up with a sign that says "Soon". I pass it everyday on the way to work and would be happy to take a picture if you so desire. They are also building a new cast parking lot on Disney property, very close to where the old lot used to be. The two things are going on at the same time.

Not a chance.
