Construction near Wilderness Lodge?

Does anyone know what they are doing along the water on the north side of the Wilderness Lodge? They put up a long chain link fence on Tuesday. I'll try to grab a picture today.

Thanks

There were plans of a DVC to be placed between FW and WL including the area of the former River Country water park. Perhaps they are starting to prepare for this...

It could also be them expanding the lake slightly to account for the new Grand Floridian DVC being built, to keep the water capacity similar (or whatever reasons they might have, I'm not an engineer). I believe a permit for that was filed a while ago.

I think you may be right. I recall seeing this permit as well and it did mention modifying the shoreline in that area to compensate for the shoreline modification necessary to build the GF DVC.

 I don't think they would need to do that...

I am trying to find the actual passage, but building code might force them to. If I am not mistaken, per code, if you take up volume in any body of water that is used for storm runoff that volume must be replaced somewhere else. Basically if Disney drops 100 yards of fill into the 7 seas lagoon they have to take out 100 yards of material somewhere else in that lake system.

OK. I was just thinking that it's not affecting the level of the water significantly enough that they would need to take out land to make up the difference. But maybe I'm mistaken.

Given the size of the system I doubt it would have any tangible effect either. If the fill they are putting in for the GF project raised the mean height of the water system by I millimeter I would be shocked. However, building code and common sense rarely line up.

How is the water level controlled? I'm sure the water in there isn't stagnant and that it drains to the ocean (or the gulf). So making the lagoon smaller wouldn't make the water level go up. And if the level is controlled naturally or by some dam or pump system, either way, the water level would stay the same.

I know there is a levy on Bay lake that dumps into Bonnet creek and their may be others.

I'm staying at the Lodge next month. I will try and take some photos of some areas of WDW not obstructed by construction walls, scrims or fences. Not making any promises, but I'll try.

One would think (reference their lack of common sense remark here) that this is a great time to remove the ill-fated River Country remains. It would be easy to add shoreline or remove material along the water that would displace the GF additions and we'd see some nice new beach front or forestry along the lake.

<now insert sigh of depression>

RC will not be removed until they are ready to build on the site again. Until that day it will be left to rot.

This Is exactly what it is. I'm positive. It was in the Site plan. Ill put up the link when i find it. I recall it being called something like "100 year shoreline" or something. Maybe the lake needs to be able to handle more water over time.

Edit: Here it is on page C-702. The picture on the left is the construction at the wilderness lodge. You can see where World drive is to the left of the construction zone. The picture to the top right shows the construction at the friendship boat dock at the northern edge of Bay Lake. On the little map below that, the Wilderness lodge site is labeled "site 1" and the site at the boat docks is "site 2"

Or they could just dredge part of either lake.

Remember most of the fill for the const. for MK came from 7 seas lagoon. Disney was built on swamp land therefor any const. needs to have fill for elevation. Several years ago Disney had to readdress flooding several new holding areas for water had to be built.ie at Ft Wilderness parking area this is a on going issue with reedy creek district

Nice. That's exactly what I was referring to and trying to dig up. Good find!
