LOTR Could be a replacement for MArvel Land-Cause you gott think that Universal hates the idea of Disney owning Marvel or The Jurassic PArk land which from wht I saw on my last trip was pretty empty and nobody buying Jurassic Park Merchandise
You, like many other Disney fans, are only looking at one side of the coin. The side that looks good for Disney and less pleasant for Universal.
The flip side is that Universal, by mere chance, has a legally binding strangle hold on a lucrative property owned by their competitor. This competitor can't use the property, their OWN property, to their advantage because Universal already has it. This is worth much more than licensing fees and Universal knows it. They aren't surrendering Marvel. At least not anytime soon, and not without a HEFTY ransom. They can demand this ransom because Marvel was stupid and signed a contract that never expires.
But to play Devil's advocate, Universal also can't update the area without Disney's approval, which is a definite downer for them, as they probably wouldn't get it. Both sides have the ability to play hardball. Unfortunately for Disney, this does them no good in the short term, as the island doesn't need immediate updating.
^Marvel wasn't stupid in making the deal. It seems that it was part of their strategy to get back into the main stream, and look at them now. Superheroes aren't for geeks anymore, they're for everyone.
