Confused about Disney's latest movies

Who are these folks?

I was wondering the same thing...Rosanne is the worst I can think of off the top of my head. I mean between all that public stuff with her husband...and the secretary.

Maybe the "general" public forgets, but I haven't, and this is not the kind of person I like spending my money on supporting.

If Disney belives in some kind of values, that should somewhat, in some small way, continue to the kind of people that they choose in representing them.

Good values include such 'way out' concepts as forgiveness. Roseanne is hardly my cup of tea but I can't think of much that she's done lately to warrant this kind of animosity except for being annoying...and to my knowledge that hasn't been outlawed yet.

As for the baseball/National Anthem thing -- it's been a substantial while since that happened and most sensible people remember Roseanne for her long-running TV show rather than one moment of misjudgment.

Disney hires its actors because they bring something to the role. Kids who see the films won't care as long as the film is good.

"Let he who is without sin..." and all that.

One of my first loves is Disney animation. I tried for a VERY long time (from high school days 1991 - 1997) to attempt to become an animator. Those 2D cels mean a lot to me!

As for HOTR, I enjoyed it....not necessarily loved it, but thought it was good. I did cry (seeing that it is possibly the last hand drawn animated film). For all intense purposes, it was a fun, family movie....worthy of the Disney name. It does harkin back to the Sleeping Beauty style (as mentioned before). That was a nice vintage touch.

I think the point of the movie that agrivated me the most is the fact that I felt as if 1/4 of the movie was left on the cutting room floor. There was mention of Mrs. Calloway's hat...but never any mention as to why she is so fond of them or gets agitated when she is without it. We never got a lot of info on Pearl.....Heck, I felt I knew Jack (the 1 legged jackrabbit) better than I did her. I can only hope that the missing scenes are added back into the DVD format. It was almost as if California wanted to get the movie out of their hands and onto the screen ASAP.

Will the film do well? I have a funny feeling that it will not pull the crowds like, say, an Aladdin or BatB. It will more than likely make the right numbers but nothing like an old classic.

As for Chicken Little, I have seen the work at the beginning of the Brother Bear.....and I'm not sure if it will make the grade. Granted, people are geared up with things like Nemo, but there's a special magic about traditional animation. I can only hope and pray that the 50th animated classic (starring Mickey) with revert back to traditional animation.

I'm not without forgiveness either. There have been other people in the media that have done some not so good things, and most I would have forgived, and wouldn't have an issue with Disney using their voice to represent one of their characters.

But in this case, I don't care for her, what she has stood for in the past, and how she has represented herself to the public. And just because it's been a long time since an incident has occured, does not mean she's a "changed" person or she deserves my forgiveness or has even asked the public to do so.

She may have, I never saw it, but then again I don't follower what she does. I'm bias against her as well because I really don't care for her type of humor, she comes off to me as a Rodney Dangerfield (who I do like) with no class. This is my opinion, mine, my own...(ok to much Lord of the Rings for me :hammer: ), so I know people don't and will not agree, not looking for that either.

But I have a right to it and I'm just saying as a paying customer to Disney, I think they should choose who represents them.

OK...enough of that...now for something completly different... :)

Eventhough I agree with you, I don't think we're talking about a legal issue. This isn't the first time you have used this as a defense. What is legal, moral or ethical are three different issues. The issue that is on the table is more of a moral issue and not one of whether someone broke the law.

Outside of her show, I don't like Roseanne at all. As a real person she comes across as crude, unsophisticated and down right raunchy. But as a character I think she does fine and the kids really don't understand who this person is.

I think you could find some offensive history in most of the Disney voices.

Robin Williams- runs around naked in one of his movies. Listen to his stand-up material. Would Alladin have been a great success with out him? Do the children know about his past?

Demi Moore- Striptease

Vanessa Williams- Penthouse/ Miss America scandal

Minnie Driver- took her clothes off in a movie

Glenn Close- has done some outrageous things.

The list can go on and on. I do wish Disney would be more selective with who they use to promote movies, but their selection is pretty slim. They can only use John Goodman's voice in so many movies.

The key question to this is- Do the kids make the connection? In most cases, no.

I think I was trying to same the same thing. You did it better. :)

I agree on Rosanne, but my thinking is defferent on some of the other actors. The stuff they do in movies is not real. And I can't fault them for that unless they where doing an "adult" movie (Vanessa being in that catagory somewhat). But the others, I wouldn't see that way.

Robins stand up is for adults, but when he does Disney stuff, it's for the family. Not the same. I can't fault him for his what he does for a living.

The difference to me is Rosanne's "bad" stuff had nothing to do her show "on air". I have the same issues with her that you've stated..."As a real person she comes across as crude, unsophisticated and down right raunchy." And maybe this was all done as shock value to get more media hype around her, who knows, but it still sticks with me all these years later, and I just don't like her because of that.

Look -- lets agree to disagree, all right. I'm not even remotely a fan of Roseanne Barr, but she did a fine job in Home on the Range. I'll admit that it's interesting to see what an Disney actor has done that's considered un-Disneylike, but to hold that against them is sad. I mean, look up Bobby Driscoll or Hayley Mills, they did things in their post-Disney careers that would have made Walt blush. But they were good at what they did in the films they were in.

The point is whether we should care or not. Actors play roles and though sometimes they can do outrageous things in real life, seldom do they involve something so dire that I would boycott a movie that had them as a voice. Most sensible people feel the same way. Children are not aware of who is even doing the voice unless their parents make them aware.

I think it's silly that fans of Disney films should be forced to demand purity from its voice actors. Actors play roles, some of those roles are for grown-ups in grown-up movies and some are in children's movies. To expect an actor to give up a career that includes mature roles is kinda crazy. Actors like to be versatile: an R-rated film one month -- a kid's show the next. To my mind, there's nothing wrong with that as long as they entertain.

Going back to the sexual innuendos! I would like to point out that one of the best Disney movies of all time, Hunchback, had a very suggestive plot.

That's what my point was. Stop picking on Roseanne. If we want to get pickey, there are a lot of other people that we could call out if we compared them to what they did in other films or in their private lives.

I think it comes down to opinions about her personality and not anything beyond that.

I say if the kids don't know, who cares.

Roseann Barr was never arrested like Eddie Murphy for picking up transvestites and doing things to their toes. To me he is far more contrevesial and brutally annoying in Shrek.

And when the heck will this whole Cameron Diaz thing end? I can't stomach her :hurl: :hurl: :hurl:
