Trip Report *Completed* Roommate Reunion & Hobbling Through the Princess 1/2 Marathon

Hey friends! I've been back for almost a week, and I'm ready to re-live my trip and hopefully remember enough for this to be good. This first post will be mostly text, sorry!

Who: College roommates (and our honorary roommate)
Where: Pop Century with an extra night at Boardwalk with my cousin
When: Feb 22-25
Why: Spending time with friends and Princess weekend

A little background:
31366_1358291630686_7044345_n.jpg

This is me, E, M (also my cousin), L and S. And yep, that's a stuffed penguin. His name is Harold, and he was our dorm room mascot :hilarious: I don't know, y'all. We're weird people. Anyway, all of us but L were roommates and she just kind of became an honorary roommate over time. We all moved off campus in the middle of our sophomore year when a tornado hit our campus and destroyed the dorms. Once they were rebuilt, S moved back and the rest of us stayed in the house, which happens to be the house I still live in.

I'm still in the same town, L is about 2 hours one direction in Nashville, then E and S are about an hour the other direction in Memphis. The four of us see each other a few times a year. Then there's M. She's the free spirit, the nomad (She grew up moving around, he dad is air force). She moved up to Washington in 2017 and before she left was the last time the five of us were together. She's my cousin, so I still see her at holidays, but it's harder to get us all in one place!

I wanted to do Princess in 2019, but then I got pregnant, so it got pushed to 2020. As soon as registration was opening, I messaged everyone and said I was signing up! L and E committed and we all registered. M and S never really responded, so we moved forward with our plans with just the three of us.

At some point later down the road, both M & S decided they wanted to come. I was FLOORED that S was coming, but sure enough, she was in. Once she bought her Disney tickets around Christmas, I figured there was little chance she'd back out. M's plan was to stay offsite with her husband because they were traveling the country and camping with their dogs. We had AKL booked for the 4 on-siters and I booked our fast passes when the time came, just hoping I could add Miranda to most of them.

Fast forward a few weeks and M said her husband's job at Google was changing and he might need to work from the office again instead of remotely. Soooo she still wanted to come, but she wanted to stay in the room with us now. AKL only sleeps 4 and there was like NOTHING available anymore. I called Disney because I was getting frustrated searching online. The cast member who helped me was so helpful and somehow didn't get confused. She booked us two rooms at Pop and all but guaranteed we'd be able to get adjoining rooms. Hooray!

So I got M added to as many fast passes as I could. I hadn't been able to get FoP or Slinky, but as I checked over the weeks before the trip, I was able to get us both! Not ideal times, but better than nothing.

Ok I think I'm done with the background and ready to dive in!! Sorry so much text...it's probably all unnecessary :hilarious:

M and I headed over to Magic Kingdom via the monorail.

When we arrived, we hopped in line for a photo in front of the train station

I texted @Doc Disney and they were headed in too. We had planned to do After Hours, so I was excited to get some hang out time in with her, her mom and sister! They had a FP for Tinkerbell, so they headed into that. She texted and said there was like no line, so we decided to go in and meet Tink. I never have!

I still haven't :hilarious: While it's true there were only a couple of families in there, the line wasn't moving. And the family in front of and behind us was getting on my nerves. They were together but the people behind us didn't move up and the people in front of us didn't drop back. And the kids kept going back and forth and touching me...nope, do not like.

So we got out of line and perused the Emporium for a bit.

Eventually, Megan got done at Tinkerbell and headed down Main Street. They'd gone to the Emporium, but we were across the street by that point, so they fought the crowd to meet us outside the Plaza and we all headed to Tomorrowland.

I got in trouble for climbing over the chain in the line :hilarious: I don't embarrass easily, but I was a little embarrassed, because I am normally a rule follower. Oops!

I love a good nighttime spin on the PeopleMover! It was a great first ride for the evening. We stopped outside in Tomorrowland to watch the fireworks. The crowd on Main Street and in the hub earlier had been insane and none of us felt like going back to that.

I hijacked Megan's cute photo idea :hilarious: It was about this time that a cast member came over with some icecream! I think Megan's mom ended up eating it.

I loved bopping to the HEA soundtrack and seeing the fireworks! I honestly didn't miss the projections.

We headed toward Fantasyland next and couldn't decide what to ride. Jill made the decision that we'd do Teacups! I was game, since I almost never ride teacups on my trips. I don't know why, cause I rather enjoy them!

M was nervous because when we were kids her brother used to make us spin SO FAST and we always felt sick :hilarious: We promised each other we would keep it tame.

Since we were in the neighborhood, we headed to Dumbo next. Another ride I rarely do!

So far we hadn't had to really wait for anything. I don't have a ton of pictures, so Megan may have to fill in some gaps...

We headed all the way across the park to ride Pirates.

I know we got a ride photo, but I guess I didn't download it. Maybe Megan will have it in her report!

I guess we didn't ride Big Thunder? I'm surprised! But I don't have any pictures, and I can't remember. I do know we used the bathrooms by Splash at some point, so maybe we rode after that? Help @Doc Disney! :hilarious:

Since the party had been going for a little bit, we decided to go ahead and do 7 Dwarfs. We got popcorn and drinks on the way. The popcorn boxes are SO CUTE!

I didn't download that ride photo either! I don't know why. I need to go back and get them. I also know we rode Haunted Mansion at some point, but the picture never showed up on my account.

The last stop for Megan and her fam was Space Mountain.

I always look terrible in these :hilarious:

We all got a castle shot before Megan and crew headed out

Aren't we cute?! We had a blast hanging out that evening. I love that these boards brought me some new friends!

M and I were powering through to the end and we headed back into Tomorrowland

We went to where I thought the entrance to the ride area was, but it was a WALL! They've moved the entrance and I missed the memo. I don't know why the other part of the queue was still open, but I definitely led about 10 other people the wrong way, and had to tell them the door was gone! I'm sure they thought I was nuts.

Ugh, not quite galactic hero.

Sanitizing after touching the gun. Turns out.... well, you'll see.

Went to the bathrooms next. I like these signs! I have the pins of these.

Next up was Pooh! Still haven't waited in any lines. After Hours is 100% worth the money.

I decided to get one of those fruit bars and then we headed over to Small World. I had to finish the fruit bar before I got on.

We had the boat to ourselves and the boats in front of and behind us were empty. It was a little creepy!

I guess my magic band wasn't picking up cause both screens had M's name!

It was getting close to 12 and we had a few more things to cram in! I was confident we could make it work.

Headed back to Main Street

I wanted to meet Mickey!!

The two or three people before us were so boring! They just took a picture with him and left. I was chatting him up and we were talking about how he's going to do Princess next year so he can get a medal too.

I wish I'd been smiling in that last one! It would have been so cute. Mickey was FANTASTIC! I had a blast with him.

Next up, we NEEDED a castle photo! We saw a photographer with no line...score!

Last on our list was getting more popcorn for the bus ride back. We made it with about 1 minute to spare! We got popcorn and one more diet coke. I saved that for the next day.

After that we sadly made our way back down Main Street and to the busses. Our bus came fairly quickly, and we had a short ride back.

The end to SUCH a fun night!

Step count: 24,949

I felt pretty good, just tired! My throat was feeling a little scratchy, but nothing major. Or is it

My daughter and I did an after hours event at DLP last year and it is VERY creepy in some areas of the park with the low numbers of other guests and the very low lighting. We were having a great time egging each other on about it being creepy. At one point we were walking close by Alice’s Labyrinth and we suddenly heard “off with their head” and we were just laughing at how we both had jumped.

Sorry for the like overload - just catching up!

But those illness notifications are the worst! You always know what 's going to come - we got one for our daughter's class, and next thing you know they had to cancel kindergarten for a week, because all but 3 kids were out (including the teacher). Luckily C seemed to have a mild case and just enjoyed spending 4 days at home discovering ALL of the Barbie movies on Netflix

Here's hoping your daughter didn't get it!

And guess what I just got.... another illness notification for my son's class. Fingers crossed!

My last day began around 7ish if I remember right. M slept on the little pull-down Dumbo bed. I was perfectly willing to take that one, but she insisted. I think it was just as comfy as the main bed! While she continued to snooze, I got all my stuff packed up, showered and did a little reading with some coffee on the balcony.

Paid for a standard view, pretty sure I got an upgrade :inlove:

Wearing the jeans I retrieved from Pop Century. I knew I couldn't travel back to Tennessee in shorts! It was too chilly.

After I got myself ready, M was getting up. I had breakfast plans, so I bid her goodbye and headed downstairs.

I checked my bag for my flight, then left my backpack with Bell Services. Looked around the Boardwalk a little hoping to find some cast members pin trading. Didn't have much luck there.

I was early for breakfast, so I meandered around the Boardwalk store and bought some souvenirs to take home. I also took my book to a bench on the Boardwalk and read for a bit.

Some talkative people came and sat right behind me though, so I got up and walked to the other end where there were less people. Eventually it got to be close to breakfast, so I met up with @Doc Disney and co! We took some pictures for each other on the Boardwalk. It was a GORGEOUS morning.

We checked into Trattoria Al Forno for the BonVoyage Breakfast! I was so pumped to try this. I do things like this on trips without my husband since he's not into character stuff.

We were seated after only a couple of minutes and we had a table near the front so there was a nice big window, which helped with the photos.

Almost immediately when we sat down, I started sneezing  This was before all the coronavirus insanity, so I didn't clear the restaurant. I did feel bad though! I had felt fine all morning until now. It just felt like the beginning of a cold. Anyway, I moved on from it and soon the pastries came out.

We each picked one and there were a couple left over. I had that chocolate croissant thing, which was delicious! I think Mary had the same thing. Pretty sure Megan ate the sun and Jill had the little puff pastry.

I had a really hard time deciding what to order. It all sounded quite delicious!! I ended up going for the pancakes because I feel like they're iconic there.

Here's the menu if you can zoom in and see what we got. We also all ordered drinks. I had a bellini, which was very tasty. Are you seeing a trend here?!

Seemed like it didn't take long and our food was out. Maybe the good conversation made the time go quickly!

These pancakes are pretty photogenic, I must say.

Jill's calzone. She raved about this! I thought it looked really good too. Mary also got the pancakes, and of course @Doc Disney got the steak :hilarious:

Our first character arrived while we were eating, and it was Rapunzel. I had no earthly idea what to say to her :hilarious: I feel like most of them just said hi then asked if we wanted a picture. There wasn't a ton of interaction, and Rapunzel was probably the least of the 4. She's still sweet though!

I'll let Megan post the pictures of them (hopefully...pretty sure I sent them to her)

I look so tired :joyfull: I can always tell I need sleep when my face looks puffy.

All the characters came pretty close together, which wasn't a big deal. We just kind of ate a little between each and the timing felt comfortable to me. Flynn Rider came by next and he was my favorite! He interacted with us quite a bit and was funny. He had quite the smoulder too!

I was starstruck 🤩

Next was Eric. I can't remember what we talked about with him honestly. He did comment on my Flounder ears.

Ariel was last, and again I can't remember what we talked about other than her liking my ears. She mentioned Flounder being off swimming in the lake or something.

At some point there was a little girl and her dad that came over and the dad asked about the green drink Jill had. The daughter had obviously been begging for that drink because it looked cool :hilarious: Jill made sure to tell them how yucky it was and the dad was like "THANK YOU SO MUCH!" ha! It was funny. Jill knew exactly what to do!

After breakfast we took a picture outside and headed our separate ways. We had such a good time together! I'm so glad I tried that breakfast. I would absolutely go back, despite it being expensive. I was full enough not to eat again until dinner and even then, I wasn't that hungry.

As I was saying goodbye to the crew, I noticed M coming toward me on the Boardwalk. Perfect timing! She'd left her bags with Bell Services and was just checking out the area. I joined her and we walked all the way around stopping in the Beach and Yacht.

I pin traded a little in both resorts and it was fun showing M around. I had originally planned on doing a park this day, but I decided the night before not to. I'm really glad I made that call since I was starting to feel sick! We headed to the Boardwalk pool when we got back over there. M had a swimsuit for me, and I got us some drinks.

Carousel and Blueberry Lemonade.

Soaking up the sun! She lives in Seattle, so she was LOVING IT! She hadn't seen much sun back home.

I was starting to get super super sneezy and my nose was like a faucet. It was AWFUL. I overall didn't feel terrible, but I was blowing or wiping my nose like every minute. Since I wasn't going to a park, I was just going to take the Magical Express (originally planned to take a Lyft so I could leave later). A little before my pickup time, I changed back into my clothes and headed to the lobby to get my bags. M joined me and she was going to explore Disney Springs when I left.

Can't stay at the Boardwalk without taking a picture of these gals.

M and I said our goodbyes and I got on my Tragical :arghh: I am incredibly glad that M and I had this time together! We have gotten along really well our whole lives. We're about 6 months apart and always had a blast growing up. My mom and I would visit them wherever they lived (her dad is retired Air Force) and get to tour lots of different places. My absolute favorite was when they were in Limestone, Maine! There's like nothing there, but we flew to Boston and drove up the coast and it was amazing. We also visited them twice in Hawaii, which was also amazing. Then we roomed together in college and lived together for a while after graduation. It was so good to spend time with her again after several years in different towns.

This wasn't so painful knowing I'd be back in a month!

I got to the airport almost 3 hours before my flight. Yay  I walked around the Disney shop and then got some Dunkin Iced coffee before remembering I couldn't take that through security. Oops. Since I had time, I just sipped it and read and talked to my husband on the phone. I was starting to feel worse and still had a snot faucet attached to my face. Clearly all my hand sanitizer and hand washing hadn't helped me. I was still hand sanitizing every time I blew my nose hoping not to spread what I had.

I finally got in the security line at 3:14. I noted the time cause the Pre-Check line was super long. Definitely the longest I've seen! I got through at 3:27, so not bad. It definitely looked longer than 13 minutes.

The rest was pretty typical, waited at the gate, got a McDonald's Happy Meal...blew my nose a lot.

I forgot to grab more tissue before getting on the plane. BIG mistake. I asked a flight attendant for tissues and she gave me like 4 napkins. I stretched those napkins as much as I could :hilarious: I was still sneezing, but I was doing it into my shirt collar to try not to spray it everywhere. IT WAS SO GROSS, I WAS SO GROSS. I felt like absolute ESS ACH EYE TEE by the time I landed.

I did not go to work the next morning, but I made an appointment with the campus nurse. Turns out I picked up Flu A on my trip. Lovely! We somehow managed to keep my husband and daughter well during the next three days that I was at home. It was a mild case thankfully!

So that's it! We leave in 14 days for our spring break trip, and because so many people are cancelling, I was able to find a good passholder rate at the Yacht Club! Unless something major changes before we leave, we're still planning on going. I guess we'll see!

They always leave post-its on the sign out sheet saying "There are 2 confirmed cases of ____" or whatever. It always makes me so paranoid! So far she got HFM, but that's it. She hasn't gotten the flu yet. She's congested right now, so I'm just watching her closely to catch an ear infection if it happens. I do NOT want her having an ear infection on our trip coming up...I can't imagine how painful that would be while flying.

Thanks for following along!!

Another good one! And I look forward to your next, since we're (hopefully still) be going about a month after!

We know ear infections quite well... and the good thing is that the antibiotics seem to kick in pretty fast. We actually found RSV to be the worst (and the most contagious...), so if you got through that, you should be ok!

I really enjoyed your TR as always!! Congrats on the race & I hope you have a wonderful time on the next one!!
Thank you!!
Ew, creepy clown pool!!!!
Haha, I love it! It's such a fun pool

I have been SO scared of RSV...my friend's little boy had it and it was awful. Our last ear infection was bad because the first antibiotic didn't work. So poor thing was sick for over a week before she got any relief.

I’m with @LadyBelle. I wouldn’t consider a view of the clown pool to be an upgrade. :hilarious:

Enjoyed your TR as always! Except for getting the flu at the end, sounds like you had a great time! Fingers crossed that the coronavirus doesn’t mess up y’all’s trip! 🤞
Hahaha y'all are nuts, it's such a fun pool! And thanks for following. It's looking like this coming trip won't happen, but at least I know we'll get back once all this is over. I'm just sad since I was excited to see LP experience everything at this fun age.
