Trip Report ***Completed** For the First Time in Forever! Aug 2016 WDW Trip Report

Hi guys! I'm so excited to start my very first trip report! My family and I have just gotten back from Disney World about a week ago and we had a fabulous vacation. It was our first trip to Disney since 2008, so there have been a lot of changes since then. This was our first trip since Fast Pass + and Magic Bands and the DDP, so it was a bit of uncharted territory for us. This was also the first trip where I was primarily in control for most of the planning. My Dad insisted on using a AAA travel agent to book the package even though I told him I could have done it. I planned all our meals, booked all our fast passes, and generally mapped out all of our park days. Overall I think it went really well considering I hadn't actually been to the parks in 8 years. Thank God for these forums and You Tube!

Anyway it was a very memorable trip with its highs and lows and I can't wait to share the craziness with all of you. So here is the outline of our vacation to start:

When: Friday Aug 19th- Mon Aug 29th 2016

Where: All Star Movies Resort

Who: Myself (Melissa), my Mom, my Dad, my younger brother Matt. My younger sister Stephanie and her bf Steve (now fiancee but we'll get to that!) arrived on Tues Aug 23rd.

Anyway I hope you enjoy my trip report!

When we got to Dino land my brother was a little disappointed that there wasn't more dinosaur stuff there. I think he remembered it differently. Anyway Matt and my Dad decided to ride Primeval Whirl since it was only like a 15 or 20 minute wait. I decided to keep my Mom company on a park bench since I don't do very well with spinning type rides and I vaguely remember feeling a little lightheaded after the last time I rode it.

The weather hadn't been too unbearable earlier that morning. It also probably helped that we had just had a heat wave up in NY with Florida level humidity, so the temperature wasn't too much of a shock to our systems. By this time it was really starting to heat up and I really began to look forward to our 12:30 Kali FP. The way we figured it we had just enough time to fit in a performance of Finding Nemo before then. Besides 40 minutes in the AC was sounding pretty good. Nemo was great and of course I teared up a little when they sang, "Big Blue World." It's such a beautiful show.

After Nemo ended it was a little crazy getting out of the theater because not only did we have to contend with the crowds leaving, but also the crowds trying o line up for the next show. It was a little bottle necked, but we made it through and then headed towards Kali. I had really picked a good part of the day for this FP. It was just at the point where you could use the cooling off, but still early enough that we'd be able to dry quickly and have to walk around in wet clothes for too long.

We wound up in a raft with another family and two of the girls had their ponchos on and were yelling "PONCHOS!" which is something my Dad does all the time so we had a good laugh. We all got a good splash or two, but one of the girls from the other family (who was NOT wearing a poncho) got it the worst. She was soaked and of course she was wearing really heavy (non waterproof eyeliner) so that really sucked for her. I kind of felt bad, but then again liquid eyeliner is not the most practical kind of makeup to wear to a theme park in Florida.

Now that we were nice and cool we were ready to continue our journey. This was around the point my Mom started complaining about her knee again. She'd been walking really slow and my Dad had been constantly having to tell Matt and I to slow down and wait for them. She wanted to stop and take some Motrin, but didn't want to do it on an empty stomach, so we decided to find her a little something to eat and a place to sit for a bit. We found an ice cream cart and she decided that she wanted a chocolate covered banana with walnuts. Matt decided to use one of his snack credits as well on a Mickey ice cream sandwich. My Dad and I decided to hold off on our snacks for the time being.

That ice cream sure seemed to be hitting the spot!

After they finished their snacks, we decided to check out the Maharajah Jungle Trek. Matt is really into animals and could probably spend hours exploring the animal trails. My Mom was still in a lot of pain though so she insisted on sitting it out while the rest of us hit the trail. I began to worry. I hope this wasn't going to be how our entire vacation was going to be.

We went through the trail pretty quickly and I know Matt didn't spend all the time he wanted, but I think we all just felt really bad leaving her alone again. She was still hurting when we finished up and I was regretting not getting an ice cream earlier, so I went back and spent my snack credit on a Mickey Premium Bar. I'd never had one before, but it was delicious! Matt said he regretted not getting one because his ice cream sandwich was just ehh...

I sat on the bench with my Mom and ate my ice cream. Then I started to get impatient. My Mom was clearly in a great deal of pain and still refusing a wheelchair for some reason. The heat was getting to her a bit, but she kept saying passive aggressive things like, "You guys go do what you want to do and I'll just sit here." We were considering going back to the resort to drop her off and take the bus back, but we still had one more FP plus a 5:45 ADR at Rainforest Cafe. She was being stubborn though and insisting that she'll just "deal." (See... Parents can be just as cranky as kids in the park.)

My Dad insisted that we do something that my Mom could do with us for our next attraction so we decided to see the 3:00 showing of Flights of Wonder. It was only like 2:30ish so we had some time to kill before then. It felt like we were waiting in front of the theater forever until we could go in and be seated, but at least there was a mister fan out there.

I'd never seen Flights of Wonder and to be honest birds don't really interest me. It was an okay show. Maybe if I liked birds more I'd have liked it better. There were some funny jokes, but the show was still outside and even though it was under an awning it was still super hot. I found myself kind of wishing it was over near the end.

By the time Flights of Wonder ended we decided to head towards Africa for our 3:40 Kilimanjaro Safari FP. My phone was starting to get a little low on battery, so I decided not to snap any pictures on this ride. We got some really good views of the animals though. We even saw the hippos out of the water which according to our guide is a pretty rare sight. I still find it amazing how close you get to some of the animals!

After we got off our Safari we considered going to see Festival of the Lion King, but the next show wasn't for a while so we decided to take the train to Rafiki's Planet Watch and check out what was over there. When we arrived at Conservation Station my Mom insisted on sitting on a bench right outside the train station and told us to come get her when we were done exploring. While we were walking to the main building I pulled my Dad aside and told him that he was going to have to do something about my Mom. I didn't mean to get upset with her, but there was just no way she could keep doing this for the entire vacation. We did not bring her to Disney for her to sit on a park bench all day every day. And if she was in that much pain after only one afternoon, there was no way she was going to make it another 9 days walking on that knee. She was going to have to get a wheelchair... There were no ifs ands or buts about it. Am I totally heartless person for thinking this way? I really felt bad, but I know my Mom and I did not want my vacation ruined because she wanted to play the part of a martyr.

When we got to the Conservation building we saw Chip and Dale were out and the line to meet them wasn't too long, so Matt and I decided to get in line. I've never really met characters as an adult before, but they were too cute. I got kisses from both of them and they loved my Jungle Book tank top. They even started to dance around like Baloo. Here are some really cute pics:

When we were done taking our pics we found my Dad talking to a CM. Apparently our little heart to heart had gotten his wheels turning. The CM said she'd be right back and returned a few minutes later pushing a wheelchair. She was actually super nice and I wish I had remembered her name (for some reason I'm thinking Gloria but I could be completely off base). She actually came from a few towns over from us. Anyway she assured my Dad that any time a guest decides they need a wheelchair they usually have them anywhere in any of the parks. She even told us we could hack the system by having my Mom go in and walk for 10 minutes and then asking a CM for a wheelchair, but we felt kind of funny about doing that, like we were stealing or something.

So what would my Mom's reaction to the wheelchair be? Would she be mad? Relieved? Stay tuned to find out...

So after a very eventful morning we were finally ready to actually enter Animal Kingdom. We hopped on the bag check line and of course I was randomly selected to go through the metal detector. I was aware of the random security screenings from reading other trip reports, but I have to admit I was a little surprised that the metal detectors was still only a random thing. It would be less magical having to walk through a metal detector before going into a Disney park every time, but in this day and age it just seems to be a sad, fact of life. Anyway, I digress...

I have to admit it was a little exciting scanning my Magic Band the first time. Soon, we were all inside and it was about 10am now. We had our first fast pass for Everest at 10:55, so we decided to take our time walking towards Asia and maybe try to squeeze in one short attraction before our fast pass. We had went ahead and purchased Memory Maker for this trip which was new for us, so we stopped at the first Photopass photographer we saw to snap a family portrait in front of the Tree of Life.

Tink decided to join us for one too.

My Mom and I had been wanting to buy Minnie Ears to wear in the park, so we decided we might as well go buy them now, so we could wear them our entire trip. We stopped at the first souvenir shop that we passed and went in to make our purchases.

I opted for the classic black sequined ears with the red bow while my Mom went for a more princess inspired style.
View attachment 159950

Then we headed on towards our way. We stopped closer to the Tree of Life and saw that It's Tough to Be a Bug had only about a 10 minute wait. Normally I could take or leave this attraction (I'm not too fond of the effect of the bugs crawling all over you) but since we were there and it wasn't a long wait we decided to do it. Of course I needed to take a "bug eyed selfie" while we waited in the preshow area.

View attachment 159953

It's Tough to be a Bug was actually not as bad as I remembered and we did find it pretty entertaining. Still not a must do, but if you are there you may as well catch a showing of it. By then it was getting closer to our Fast Pass time, so we continued to walk on towards Asia. Along the way we stopped for a few minutes to watch the monkeys. They kind of reminded me of some of my students jk (I'm a pre-k teacher by the way.)

View attachment 159954

Pretty soon we had arrived in Asia and we could see this mountain in the distance. View attachment 159952

I was super excited because Everest was one of my favorite rides on our last trip. We finally made it over to the Fast Pass entrance not too much later than our scheduled time. We parked my Mom on a wall across the path from the ride since Everest was a bit too thrilling for her and handed her all of our belongings. Then into the fast pass line Matt, my Dad, and I went. The only down side to Fast Pass on this ride is that I missed out on looking at all the cool artifacts while in line. Oh well...

View attachment 159955

Everest was as good as I remembered it. When we got off we found my Mom and collected all of our things. Matt wanted to check out Dino Land even though Dinosaur was closed for refurb. He really likes dinosaurs, so we decided to head over. On the way we stopped to take a few more Photopass pics in front of Everest.

I totally understand and no you're not heartless LOL. My mom was the exact same way. I was the only child and I guess in some ways had to be the adult and mature one while she would be the one to have tantrums. Being a martyr was one of the favorite roles I think. I would completely call her out on it though and sometimes I wasn't all that nice. But it's so very frustrating to deal with nicely, politely, and respectfully so I'm impressed that you were able to keep your cool in the heat and humidity of a FL summer LOL. Hope she was happy about the wheelchair. I would've bullied my mom into the wheelchair :)

Ok good... Now I don't feel so bad! My Mom is just SO stubborn and I think she felt if she had to accept help from a wheelchair it was a sign of weakness. Walking 6-10 miles a day in the blistering Florida August heat though is hard for me sometimes, so I could just imagine how it must be on a bad knee! I think I was nicer about it being that it was the first day of vacation. If it had been later on it might have been a different story lol.

My Dad thought it might be funny if he got into the wheelchair and we pushed him back towards my Mom and he could even joke about it to kind of put my Mom a little more at ease. Looking back I kinda wish I'd have snapped a picture of it. When we got back to my Mom my Dad played it like, "I got you something because I care about you." I pushed the wheelchair in and said, "Hop in Toots! Your chariot awaits!"

My Mom didn't argue and she got into the wheelchair. In a way she almost looked relieved and that's when I knew we had made the right decision. As I've said she's stubborn and would have never admitted to needing the help. Her excuse was it would be too hard to push her around all day, but we all pretty much took turns and it wasn't too bad. She actually looked pretty happy about it after a few minutes.

We wheeled her back up to the Conservation Station and she decided that she wanted to meet Chip and Dale too. So her and my Dad got on line. Matt decided that he wanted to go on ahead to check out the petting zoo. Chip and Dale took some really cute pics with my parents and they gave ,my Mom a lot of extra attention.

Meanwhile I just remembered that I had one of those O2 cooling towels in my backpack. A few weeks before we left, my Mom and I got into a conversation with a woman in Macy's whose grandchildren had just came back from Disney and had said that those towels definitely helped so much with the heat. We saw them in Harmon's for $7.99 and my Mom kind of rolled her eyes at the price, but my sister and I decided to give it a try. With it being so hot earlier in the day I probably should have thought to use it earlier. So while my parents were meeting Chip and Dale, I went into the bathroom in the Conservation center to wet the towel. On a side note that bathroom is hands down the creepiest bathroom in at least all of Animal Kingdom because they play recorded sounds of howler monkeys shrieking on a loop. Not exactly the most pleasant background sounds for a bathroom lol

I was very pleasantly surprised to find that the cooling towel did work and I definitely got my moneys worth out of it. The only thing I found was if I wore it on any part of my body too long I'd get too used to it and then it didn't feel as refreshing, but if I moved it somewhere else it was fine, so I kind of just rotated it. I let my Mom try it and she immediately texted my sister to ask if she could pick one up for her and bring it down when she flew in Tuesday night.

We took a quick stroll through the conservation building before getting Matt from the petting zoo. Nothing too exciting there. I still would love to catch them doing a medical procedure on an animal, but no such luck. It was now close to 5:00 and we had a dinner ADR at Rainforest Cafe at 5:45, so we decided to hop on the train back to Africa and head towards the front of the park.
14054110_10157401894380360_3694964339616351946_n.jpg

When we got to Africa there was another Festival of the Lion King performance starting, but then we would have been late for our dinner so we had to bypass it again. We made a quick stop at Island Mercantile, so that I could exchange my Fuel Rod for another one since my phone was almost dead. (I had picked up a Fuel Rod in the Baltimore airport for $20, $10 cheaper than at Disney). Then we headed straight for Rainforest Cafe.

I'd heard some mixed reviews about Rainforest Cafe, but decided to give it a try anyway. We wanted to eat dinner in Animal Kingdom and unfortunately, there really isn't any table service restaurants that everyone in my family can agree on. Matt is a very picky eater and myself and the rest of my family aren't very big on exotic food. Rainforest Cafe was really the only place in the park that had a menu featuring something that everyone liked, so we went for it. We stopped to take a picture in front of the sign and some of the themeing outside of the restaurant.

We were maybe 5 minutes early, but I decided to go ahead and see if I could check in anyway. There was no problem and after maybe 10 minutes of waiting they called us to be seated.

First off, I LOVED the theming. There was so much to look at! Here are a few of the pics I snapped from around the restaurant.

I ordered the croissant chicken salad sandwich with fries. It was really good and very filing!

I didn't take a picture of anyone else's food, but Matt got a cheeseburger with fries and my parents both got a trio platter with chicken, ribs, and shrimp I think. This is where my parents loved having the dining plan because normally they probably would have ordered a cheaper entree, but having everything prepaid already gave them the freedom to not have to really worry as much about the price and order things they probably wouldn't normally.

For dessert my Mom and I shared this bad boy (since it was a dessert for two).
14045677_10157401895055360_1739500681791367640_n.jpg

To be honest it wasn't as good as I had hoped. I think the chocolate molten cake from Chili's is better. It had a lot of whipped cream and seemed like it was missing something. We were both so full by that time anyway we only picked at it. I think my Dad had sherbet and I don't remember what Matt ate. Poor Matt was so tired from lack of sleep that he couldn't even eat his cheeseburger so he got it to go. Overall, my family really liked the Rainforest Cafe and it would definitely eat there again. My Dad especially liked when the rain storm would happen every so often.

By that time we had accomplished almost everything we had wanted to see in Animal Kingdom (except Festival of the Lion King). Since it was only about 7 and I knew that It's a Small World at Magic Kingdom was going down for refurb by the time we planned to spend our full days there, we decided to head over there specifically to ride that one ride. (Well, maybe a few others if we could fit them in, but the main goal was IASW). I know some of you are groaning, but my Mom and I love that ride. I just love all the Mary Blair dolls!

Matt was so wiped out that he decided to take the bus back to our hotel and try to get some sleep instead of joining us at Magic Kingdom, so he left as soon as he was done eating. After we finished up our meal and settled our bill it was off to the park exit to hop into our car and take a trip to the Magic Kingdom!

I'm also glad your mother finally gave in to the wheelchair suggestion. It's not easy to relinquish your independence, and the thought of that probably scared her initially. However, I also think that maybe deep down she was sort of wishing for a little assistance, but too self-conscious to ask for it. So to save face, she huffed and puffed a little more, to show how it was all of you who were trying to push the wheelchair idea. In the end, she "gave in" to all of "your" wishes (but I think she was relieved as well). ;)

I've always loved Small World, and Mary Blair's artwork throughout Disney is amazing. Glad to hear that you could ride it with your mom on vacation.

In the end, she "gave in" to all of "your" wishes (but I think she was relieved as well). ;)

Me too! In fact I think she actually kind of started to like it, especially when she saw that on some attractions she was able to wait in separate areas or get on a little bit faster. We were all teasing her about being a queen and us her servants for the rest of our vacation. In fact, there was one day we headed back to the hotel early and she wanted to keep going! We had to remind her that SOME of us had to walk around in the heat all day long and were exhausted lol

Thannks! I stumbled upon that shirt in Hot Topic about a week before my trip. I'd been eyeing a few Disney tank tops on Etsy, but unfortunately we had a family situation come up earlier this summer and with everything going on I didn't get a chance to order any. I knew Hot Topic carries Disney stuff sometimes, so I figured I'd just look and there it was! Thanks for reading!

I really do love Magic Kingdom... Once I'm there. In fact, the only reason I think Epcot just slightly edges it out for my favorite park is that it's just such a pain to get to and from. I totally get what Walt was trying to do by surrounding the park by a lagoon and having guests arrive by monorail or ferry, but I just think it's a feasible idea when the park is crowded. We probably should have stopped back at our resort and hopped on a bus to Magic Kingdom, but I wasn't thinking. It had been 8 years and I guess I forgot how cranky it made me.

The trip into Magic Kingdom wasn't too bad. Just time consuming. We took the monorail which is usually my preferred method of transportation from the TTC to the main gate. Even though it was late, there was still a fair amount of people coming in probably to see the parade and Wishes. I don't know how it was earlier that day, but the park seemed packed. The touring plans site had it listed as an 8/10 day. I wasn't sure if it was actually crowded or if it was because of everyone starting to line up on Main Street for the parade.

I wanted to get a picture in front of the castle, but my parents said they wanted to wait until at least Matt was with us. So, we continued to fight the crowds to try to find the easiest way to get to Fantasyland. And this is where my Dad hit me with my Mom's wheelchair for the first time in the back of my heel... Not a pleasant feeling! (We had explained the situation to wheel chair rental station in Magic Kingdom and they were nice enough to offer her a wheelchair for the rest of the evening. Tomorrow we intended on paying for one for the rest of our stay. We just couldn't see the point in paying for a wheelchair for only a few short hours).

Soon enough we made it through Fantasyland. The wait for IASW said 20 minutes, but it looked to be maybe five or ten minutes tops. So we hopped on line. Unfortunately, we did encounter one CM who was a little less than magical. There was another party in front of us with a wheelchair and I guess they had taken it upon themselves to open up the wheelchair gate that lead to the disabled loading area only we didn't see them do it, so we just assumed we were to walk right through and then wait for a CM to give further instructions so we followed them. Well, yea we kind of got yelled at. Not really, but we were told next time to wait for a CM at the gate in a not as nice as it could have been tone. In our case it really had just been an honest mistake.

I wasn't about to let that ruin one of my favorite rides for me though. We boarded within a few minutes and I began to enjoy my "happiest cruise in the world" for what would probably be my only chance to ride it this trip. I did enjoy it, but I would have enjoyed it even more if it weren't for the group of teens in back of us who spent the entire ride gossiping about people at their school and just generally being annoying and obnoxious. Maybe that lack of sleep was starting to get to me and I was getting a little cranky.

My parents and I were really excited to see our names on the screen at the end of the ride. That was a cute addition that I wasn't expecting. I wish I knew it was going to happen so I could get a picture.

After we got off IASW my Mom wanted to ride Haunted Mansion, so we headed off to Liberty Square. Haunted Mansion was about a 15 minute wait so we got in line. I loved how from the point we entered the stretching room until we boarded the CM kept referring to us as her "carriage party." Leave it to Disney to even theme the way that its CM's refer to guests in wheelchairs. I got a kick out of that. I rode with my Mom and my Dad rode by himself. HM was great as always Madame Leota looked much cooler than I remembered. The detail in that ride is amazing!

After HM it was pretty close to the time Wishes was about to start. So I suggested we start walking towards the front of the park and maybe we could catch some of Wishes while we were leaving. I was getting tired and I really wanted to avoid the post Wishes mass exodus of the park. We weren't too far from HM (probably across from the Riverboat) when my Dad ran into my ankle again with the wheelchair. REALLY hard that time! Like I saw stars... I thought they were going to have to get me a wheelchair. It felt like he literally ripped the skin on my heel down to the bone. It wasn't THAT bad, but I was limping for a good few minutes. And of course my Dad blames me for stopping in front of him when it really was just crowded and I couldn't go anywhere.

We decided to stop in the Christmas shop for a few minutes so I could examine the damage to my leg and my Mom could look around for an ornament to buy. Whenever we are in Disney she tries to bring back an ornament for the tree as a memento from lour trip. Unfortunately, everything we saw was really heavy and we have too many heavy ornaments as it is, so we walked out empty handed.

I was hoping we could sneak out before Wishes because as I mentioned I was tired, my leg hurt, and I was starting to get a little anxious from all the people. (I'm a bit claustrophoic and normally crowds don't bother me too much, but when you factor in all the variables above plus the heat and it being dark, I was done). We had planned two full days in MK so I was hoping to see Wishes then. My parents found a pretty good spot in front of Crystal Palace though 5 minutes before the show started, so they decided we might as well stay. Wishes is a great show and I still did enjoy it. I of course teared up a little. I tried to snap some pics, but they didn't come out the greatest.

And then the mass exodus started which was exactly what I was trying to avoid. MK was open until 12am that night and Wishes ended at 10:30. At that point I tried to convince my parents that we would be better off trying to push on to midnight and try to get another ride or two in, but NOW they wanted to go back to the resort. So they would have to deal with me if I had a panic attack lol

I at least got them to cut through the stores on Main Street. We stopped and looked a little (just long enough for there to be a pretty heavy crowd out before us already waiting for the monorail and ferry.) By the time we exited the park the monorail line was down past the ramps and wrapping around the corner. The ferry boat line looked packed too. It was pretty much a lose lose situation. I really wanted to just take the bus back to the resort and save my parents from having to listen to me complain and get anxious, but they didn't want me going by myself and I was too tired to argue by that point. We decided to do the ferry which may have been a bad decision, but what are you going to do at that point?

We waited for 2 or 3 ferries until we boarded and then I realized I had made a mistake. It was SO hot and all those bodies pressed together in the ferry... And of course we were stuck right smack dab in the middle of the boat. I admit... I started to panic a little and thankfully a woman about my age a few feet away so me beginning to lose it and offered me a space near by the window. "Panic attack?" she asked, like she could totally sympathize. All I could was nod. Then stick my head out the window for a few minutes to get some air. We talked for a few minutes and I thanked her. Nice to know I wasn't alone. Once we finally started moving we picked up a nice breeze and that helped. Until it was time to get off the boat... Then we had to wait another half hour for the tram. It was the longest line we'd been in all day. It was also my second worst experience leaving MK. (My first was during the 25th anniversary when I was about 12 and I came very close to walking back to the car instead of waiting for a tram because the wait was so soon, which I still get teased about to this day).

By the time we got to the car it was already after midnight anyway. I checked the pedometer on my phone and there was good reason why I was tired and cranky. I'd walked 10.5 miles in one day! Needless to say by the time I got back to our resort, I had NO trouble falling asleep this time.

Next up Hollywood Studios! I don't know if I'll get a chance to update tomorrow or not because it's my birthday, so I'm going out to dinner with my family and then maybe meeting some friends for drinks. I'll definitely try to update on Sat though!

First, Happy Birthday! Have a great day even though you are not at WDW.

Second I am not sure why people travel to WDW, go on rides and then spend all their time talking and/or gossiping. They could do that at home. Enjoy the moment. I am not sure if I could have just sat there and not said something. It's just totally disrespectful.

Glad you make it to your room safely.

Enjoy your birthday and will continue reading when you are ready to enter another update.

.

Thanks for the birthday wishes! I had a pretty good day. One of my new student's parent's actually had an Edible Arrangement bouquet delivered to my classroom.which was really sweet and surprising, especially considering I've only just met them this week. My family and I went out for Hibachi which was a lot of fun! We got an amazing chef so it just made the night. We've definitely decided we need to try Teppan Edo the next time we are at Disney (whenever that may be).

I also got one Disney gift which I knew I was getting anyway because I picked it out while we were down there, but I'll wait to mention it in the trip report when I get to it.

It would have been amazing to be in WDW on my birthday, but it just isn't in the cards. Why did I have to be born so close to the beginning of the school year? Maybe some year I'll make it down there for my birthday if I find myself in another job field.

Day 3- Sunday, August 21st- Disney's Hollywood Studios

Today there were EMH at DHS (Spoiler Alert: We didn't make them. This is kind of a recurring theme for us.) I forget when we woke up. Maybe 7ish? Anyway I was sore from all that walking (and my little run in with the wheelchair) so I hobbled towards the shower to try to loosen up those muscles. My heel really hurt whenever a lot of water pressure hit it or when I put all my weight on it. It looked pretty bruised, but otherwise fine and thankfully it did start to feel better once we hit the parks.

We had breakfast in the food court again today and I decided to try something different. The Mickey waffles were good, but I had gotten pretty hungry during the day yesterday. So instead I opted for an egg and cheese croissant sandwich with tater tots.

14089166_10157421510880360_3876541878282594529_n.jpg

It was actually really good and would be my go to breakfast meal at the hotel. Those tater tots were everything! I don't remember what everyone else got.

I guess breakfast took a little longer than expected because we didn't wind up getting to DHS until about 10am. I think my Mom got randomly selected today. (She was always randomly selected lol). As we entered the park I was telling everyone how I was so glad that they finally removed the big hat in front of the theater and the rest of my family was like, "REALLY?! We loved the hat!" (Who are these people? lol)

We headed straight to the wheelchair rental station and my Mom went in to prepay for a wheelchair for the rest of our park days. Then they got her set in her wheelchair and off we went! Our first stop of course was for a family photo shoot on Hollywood Boulevard.

(With a cameo from Mike Wazowski)

We had some time to kill before our 11:05 Toy Story Mania FP, so we decided to kill some time in here.

14039987_10157421511020360_7004425552282862775_n.jpg

I love One Man's Dream and I could spend a lot of time in there if I wanted. I love looking at all the old Disney merchandise and the scale models of all the different parks around the world. I keep hearing rumors that this is going to close, so I kind of wish I'd taken more pictures. Instead I just took this one.

14079640_10157421511085360_5475158163772522954_n.jpg

I kind of have a thing for Figment and always have. May be a little obsessed.

I was disappointed that they no longer show the film about Walt afterwards. I really liked all the clips from the old Disney movies and it always made me feel really nostalgic like I needed to go home and binge watch a bunch of Disney animated films. Instead, they were showing an extended trailer for Pete's Dragon. I think it was the last day before they switched it out for something else, but we chose to skip it.

By now it was about time for our Toy Story FP, so we headed over there. I was really excited about this ride because I'd never ridden it before. It had just opened the last time we were down there and we just never made it in time to get a Fast Pass for it and the wait was like 120 minutes. We were going to wait for it, but then we would have missed Fantasmic, so we had no choice to skip it. Needless to say this was one of the first FP's I booked this time around.

I loved the theming on the line and wish I'd taken more pictures. I love vintage toys and things like that. This was one of the rides that I actually think you wait LONGER than the regular line if you are in a wheelchair because there are only like two cars designed for wheelchair accessibility and even though my Mom could transfer we still had to wait for the cars to arrive on the handicap ramp. A little annoying in our case, but there were other rides we were allowed to board first, so it all evens out in the end.

Finally we boarded. I sat with my Dad while Matt sat with my Mom.

14034917_10157421511130360_5459553168142494358_n.jpg

I really enjoyed this ride even though I'm not very good at these kind of games. I loved how the games were set up like a carnival. It was a lot of fun! Matt got the highest score (probably all the video games he plays lol) then my Mom, my Dad, and me.

There was a performance of Voyage of The Little Mermaid starting soon so we hopped in line for the next showing. I love The Little Mermaid, but it's very hard to cram the entire story into a 20 minute stage show. My Dad, who I don't know if he's ever seen The Little Mermaid (and if he did it was probably not since I was little) was very confused. Afterwards he was like, "Wait? How did she get her voice back?" because it jumped ahead a bit and left pretty much everything that happened while Ariel was a human. I had to explain to him that a lot happens that they left out and he needs to watch the movie lol. I tried to explain it, but he just seemed so confused!

After that, we decided to head to Star Wars Launch Bay. I'm not a huge Star Wars fan, but have seen The Force Awakens. I've also seen bits and pieces of the original trilogy and know a lot from just general pop culture knowledge. Matt would like too get into it more and my Mom likes the movies, so we decided to go. We figured we'd see the movie too and get the whole experience. While we were on line they rerouted us to the handicapped entrance just as a Storm Trooper happened to be passing by, so he personally escorted us to where we needed to go a few feet away. How many people can say they got a personal escort from a Storm Trooper. Too bad I missed the photo op.

Next up, meeting Chewbacca and Kylo Ren!
