Trip Report COMPLETED - After 2 1/2 years we finally made it back to WDW

So as the title suggests we finally got back to WDW.
It was every bit as magical as I expected and was much needed after years away due to Covid.
We had such a great time. I’m not going to lie it was a different experience which I’ll explain more of but this holiday was so needed.
I’ve thought long and hard about a TR as the honest truth is I kept no notes as I just wanted to live in the moment but I’ll share with you some of it the best I can.

So let’s rewind slightly here. We already have a trip booked for Sept this year but in early November the US borders opened for us UK folk and myself and Chris watched live on u tube as the Virgin and British airways planes took off together and we both got a bit emotional. After take off we both looked at each other and the words came out of my mouth “I don’t think I can wait till Sept , if Covid has taught us anything it’s to do what you want. Can we book another trip for March?” Without hesitation Chris said yes - he is a keeper! And so the planning started. I checked out various bits of data and found the lowest weeks in terms of spring break crowds, I prepared myself for a busy trip knowing full well that there is a lot of pent up demand and just considered myself lucky to finally be able to plan a trip.

We decided to plan 10 days from 26th Feb. Disney was so expensive that we decided as this was an additional trip we would book elsewhere and settled on Sheraton Vistana Resort as it was close to Disney with no resort fees or parking costs. Our trip was still just over £4000 but money well spent in my books (and as we’ve been stuck at home for 2 1/2 years we’ve hardly spent anything!)

I’ll get into more of the detail over the next few days and I’ll try to get some pictures posted rather than it being text heavy but for now I’m back………. Hello again Disney friends

Yay fellow Brit here.

Feeling this one already.

We were pricing Florida for July this year(it would have been our 8th trip), but so expensive, so we booked California for the first time. So excited.

Following along. I love your reports.
It was so emotional to finally go back.

And it’s Super expensive! We’re lucky there are only 2 of us!
Can’t wait to follow along and so glad you are writing a report! Your joy at being at WDW shines through your photos 😍

Thank you - I always look back and see happiness in my eyes - Disney truly is my happy place.

Woo hoo 😁 - didn't know whether to expect a TR. Looking forward to reading it. I can't wait till October when this fellow Brit will be in her happy place too.

To be honest I wasn’t sure I’d do one - it takes so much time and I have so many pictures to work through and no notes but a few Magicians had reached out before I went to see how I was so I felt I should do my best.

I’m so excited for this!! I’ve missed your TR’s. Glad you got to go back sooner than later!!

So was I but it was still way too long

I know we are going to be so emotional next year when we return after 15 years. We were supposed to be there in 2020. Could I just ask how it was wearing a mask all through the flight. Hopefully they will be done away with that by next September. Excited for your TR

My emotions were all over the place and I’d only been gone 2 1/2 years (I say only that’s a lifetime for me!) for 15 years of waiting make sure you pack those tissues.

I am not going to lie about mask wearing it was tough at first but then you kind of get used to it. I’m hoping you won’t have to wear them in Sept this year so fingers crossed you’ll be fine.

The flight was ok - I never eat plane food as I don’t like it so I take my own sandwiches but I think they’ve used Covid to reduce the food portions - everything is in a pre packed box and they just slide in the main meal. Chris said it wasn’t that great!

The only good part of food was being able to remove your face mask!
That was the hardest part as you had to wear a face mask from the moment you stepped into the terminal at Heathrow to the moment you stepped out of the airport in Orlando.

Our flight was just over 10 hours - is that because the plane is no longer a 747 with more engines? Since when was the flight time that long? I wasn’t complaining though as I was finally going home.
We finally arrived around 5.45pm - the queue for customs was long but once we got to an agent he literally just stamped our passports and waved us through.

We jumped on the monorail (front seat) and took in everything we were finally in Orlando!

We were starving so went to McDonald’s in the airport to get something to take with us while we collected the car. That mask was off as soon as we were outside and on our way to collect the car.
It’s here that myself and Chris always have disagreements, always in the underground car park in Orlando (we never argue or disagree at home) but if anyone saw us here they would wonder why we are still married!

To me a hire car is just that as long as it has 4 wheels then let’s just take one. To Chris it’s more than that but he always wants my approval and I just don’t care.

All the standard SUV’s are gone so they divert us to another aisle and try to get us to take a jeep. Chris isn’t that happy but that’s all they have. We are packing the cases when a manager approaches saying he has another car we might like. It’s huge but Chris can’t make a decision. He gets annoyed with me because I won’t make it and we take the larger car.

(Picture of the car from our first day!). Not sure what it was but it had 4 wheels and was huge!)

Honestly, I love your enthusiasm. I look forward to reading about your trip and seeing LOTS and LOTS of photos.

Ah thank you - to be honest if I were talking this report rather than writing it you would feel even more enthusiasm as I could talk about Disney forever.

Hopefully quite a few pictures to come but there are huge gaps where we didn’t take any as we were just living in the moment but there are also quite a few where we went into silly mode! Those will follow.

Happy to see your report. We stayed at the Sheraton Vistana Resort back in 2017 and found it very nice and an easy drive to WDW. I hope your stay there was pleasant. Excited to read more!

After sorting ourselves out and trying to get a huge car out of the parking garage we were finally on our way to the Sheraton Vistana Resort. I had read all the reviews so knew we might get a full on spell at check in about attending a session re timeshare but I was ready. We had been awake for so long my eyes were hanging out of my head and I just wanted to go to bed!

Thankfully I think they realised how tired we were and just told us to pop back if we were interested.
We headed to our room and were pleasantly surprised. Not because we expected it to be bad but just because we actually quite liked it. We had a big safe, full size fridge, a sofa, & cooking & washing facilities. We had read of reports of bad internet but we never had an issue but we were to the left of the check in centre so maybe that’s why. Excuse the dark photos we took them when we arrived (before we made a mess) and it was dark outside!

By the end of the holiday Chris actually said he liked it more than Disney - I think not! How dare he! Although to be fair it could become a new alternative if we need a trip and can’t justify Disney prices.

Chris decided he wanted to go to Walmart tonight! Really??? It was already something like 1.30am UK time and I was exhausted but he sold it to me that we would have more time in the parks. Ok say no more I was in - we were going tonight.

We literally walked in, picked up a few bits from a list we had been writing in the airport and got back, unpacked and crashed in bed at around 3am UK time (10pm in Orlando)
Tomorrow we were finally going back to the Magic Kingdom….. be ready for all the photos as we really get this TR started.

I know as soon as I hear the music going into Magic Kingdom I will be blubbering. At least we have until September 2023 so 🤞no masks then.

You’ll be doing well if you get to the MK before blubbering lol - I didn’t even get to the end of my road.

We liked it and would definitely return. Was so quick to get onto Disney property.

Hi Tracey:) I am finally here to read your trip report. I am so happy that you and Chris got to go back to Disney and had a wonderful time. It's so nice to hear a report like this. Can't wait for more:)

Hi Ruth - glad to see you and this way you’ll see our photos without me emailing you masses of them!

Following along :)
