Compare the 3 onsite resorts at UNI

gyms?!?! These Orlando park resorts have gyms?!
Who uses them? Who has the additional time or energy after schlepping all over the parks all day? Must be Ironman competitor types. ;)

I use them, but don't like that RP charges extra as stated. However, it's better than the gyms at Yacht/Beach* and Boardwalk which look their age and are smaller.

*went before the recent reno to this one though.

I know for a fact all 3 had them, and had them badly. Staff turnover was terrible and everyone sported red scratches all over. Unless the hotels have been fumigated, cleaned with bleach and all new everything, I'll never set foot in any of them as long as I live.

When was this?

:facepalm:EVERY hotel at one time or another has had bed bugs- it's gross and creeps me out, but they have been at Disney as well- for some reason, those pesky little critters do not discriminate :) I make a point to strip down the sheets, unzip couch cushions, strip the pillows, etc BEFORE I call to have my bags brought up. Maybe I'm crazy, but I feel it is just as much mt responsibility as it is the hotel's (IMO of course ). On a side note, I have NEVER encountered bedbugs at the HRH, and Disney resort we've stayed, or and Hilton in the Orlando/Buena Vista area. Lucky me and knocking furiously on wood :joyfull:

There is no point in comparing them to Disney - they win on every count. The rooms are bigger, nicer and have better amenities. The service is far superior than anything you'll find at Disney. So, that's that.

My favorite rooms are at RPH. I just like the style. Kind of Polynesian, but bright and colorful (with no hint of gaudy.) That's a personal preference and no indication that the HRH rooms are lacking. RPH is a pleasant and relaxing hotel, as is PBH, which has a bathroom than would nearly contain all of a Disney All-Star room. PBH rooms are also big and nice. PBH is, IMO, the most romantic and peaceful at night.

RPH seems (to me, anyway, and it might just be me) more easy and laid-back, while PBH seems a little more formal - rooms-wise. But I've been quite happy on every stay at PBH, no doubt. It isn't formal to the point where I'm uncomfortable. HRH seems cold, hard and sterile to me...but that's just me. Someone who likes the flavor of the place would probably love it. Just not my cup of tea.

PBH has a Quiet Pool. It's very small, but they understand that people who go to a Quiet Pool want some peace and quiet. No kids! They enforce it! Kids are welcome at the other pools, which are very nice. If you want to pool hop, you can. I don't know why this is an issue or why anyone would want to go to another hotel to swim, but if that's your idea of fun, you can.

Leave your hair dryer at home. Uni gives you a real one, not those low-powered things connected to the wall that Disney has.

They have minibars.

My sister drinks coffee - a lot of coffee - and we were never charged for extra. Listening to her gush over having a Keurig instead of the pot and Nestle coffee at Disney, you'd have thought this was the greatest thing in the world. Disney has since changed their coffee. I don't drink the stuff and don't get the huge difference, but she was thrilled. Very. :)

If you spend a week at Uni, look into that Orlando Flex Ticket and see if it wouldn't help you. Go to Sea World (unless you've been whipped into a frenzy by that ridiculous movie) - Sea World is the prettiest park and there is so much to see, even if you never went to a show.

If you don't plan to leave the Uni property, get rid of your rental. The Uni transportation is MUCH quicker than driving yourself. It's pretty, too. At Disney, a car is a must if you want to get around quickly and easily. At Uni, you'll just pay for it to sit in a garage and never be driven.

I have never encountered bedbugs anywhere. I know they exist, but it isn't like there are more at Uni than anywhere else. Is this the new way to scare people away from Uni? Have the anti-Uni people given up on saying the parks aren't good for kids and have mean staff...and moved on to saying the hotels are infested with bedbugs? LOL! They're getting desperate, I think.

Wow, can you imagine how terrible life would be if everyone lived their lives based on stuff that happened 9-10 years previously.....because surely they never fixed that problem.

I've stayed at all 3 multiple times. I just like the vibe of RPR the best. I love the tropical South Pacific theme. Portofino's my second fave, HRH is my last but they're actually all fantastic hotels with great service and rooms. I look forward to trying Cabana Bay as well.
