We are planning all our meals for the four of us. Everyone got to pick two or more restaurants but my sister only wanted one and only restaurant. The Japanese restaurant at the Hilton Downtown Disney. She saw it in the Unofficial WDW book.

Has anyone ever eaten there? Any comments? The age range will be 53 (loves sushi), 50 (can eat some), 45 and 10 (never had any experience with sushi or Japanese restaurants).

The 45 year old thinks and wants this to be an adventure. I have read some reviews here about the Chinese and the Japanese food being better outside WDW and I tried to tell her this. But this was the only place she would pick.

Will we be OK?

We have them in our area and Benihana is ok, nothing to write home about, or make a special trek to. If you want to try a japanese steak house, I'd recommend Teppanyaki Grill in Epcot the food is very good and much better than Benihana. It is the same experience and atmosphere wise as Benihana and you won't have to travel so far.

Here's the menu for Teppanyaki http://www.allearsnet.com/menu/men_tepd.htm.

Benihana is a national chain restaurant. http://www.benihana.com/

The main focus on their menu is not sushi, it's the steak, chicken, and seafood they cook on the hibachi grills. The flavor of the meats is very much like what you can get at any regular steakhouse, so please don't fear the food. Just don't expect the baked potato on the side. Instead, it'll be hibachied onions, zucchini, and maybe mushrooms that are cooked with garlic butter.

You can order sushi as an appetizer, but I prefer to save room for the main meal. You get steamed rice with every entree, but do yourself a favor and order the fried rice instead. It's really good!

Most every entree starts with Japanese Onion Soup (mostly broth, very good), a salad with a great ginger dressing, and a hibachi shrimp appetizer.

Seriously, there's nothing to fear about Benihana or the Teppanyaki restaurant in Epcot. They're both good, especially if you love steak, chicken, and seafood.

Thank you, I was really afraid for the 10 year old, but as long as there is steak on the menu we should be okay. It will be expensive dinner for her piece of steak but it will be well worth it if she's happy.:)

Thanks!

We have reservations later in the week for the California Grill. Hubby can get Sushi at both places and compare. Life is good!
