Comments about my dining choices?

I haven't posted here in a while, but now that my trip is getting closer (April), I am finalizing my restaurant picks. We've signed up for DDP, naturally. We are staying at POFQ for 2 nights, and then BC for 4 nights, so some of the places I picked are connected to those resorts.

Typhoon Tilly's (at TL)

Gaspirilla Grill (at GF)

Except for Spoodles and Mama Melrose's, we haven't eaten at any of these places before. Any and all comments welcome! :animwink:

Le Cellier is a great place- the atmosphere is really interesting (Castle like) and the food is pretty good.
Pecos Bill is good for a quick burger and fries- We go there at least once on every trip we make jusst to get a quick bite

As far as your sit downs go, I like 'em. I have'nt eaten at YCG or Spoodles so I can't comment. Le Cellier is my absolute hands down favorite. A few people on this site have recently said they were dissapointed with Coral Reef of late, I wasn't !! Minnie (get it) crab claw appetizer was a nice new addition.

Good choices, Spoodles and Coral reef have been declining in quality you maybe disappointed. Fultons crab house would be a good seafood alternative.

EDIT: Sorry I don't think Fultons is on the DDP anymore

I will chime in to say that Coral Reef is not among the better choices at this period in time -- wait until your next trip to try it -- many reports over the past year have indicated poor experiences there. I haven't eaten there since March of this year, but can tell you that the food was poor, the service was slow and poor, and the selections quite limited. The atmosphere, of course, is wonderful.

Not to start any kind of arguements or debates, but when you look at the menu's for most restaurants on property, arent the menu selections usually limited to around 5-7 entree's ? Just a thought.

Maybe instead of Yacht Club Galley, try either Beaches and Cream or Cape May Cafe over on Beach Club side. Both are fun and offer some kind of thematic element. We stay at Yacht Club a lot, and the YCGalley always seemed so sterile. Just open large rooms and a relatively generic menu selection. Cape May is a fun clambake while Beaches and Cream, though standard food, has a fun colorful 50s style theme with great desserts! Just thinking aloud. You really cannot go wrong!

I don't mean limited by menu at Coral Reef - I meant limited by THEY WERE OUT OF EVERYTHING -- as in, "You can't order the Tilapia special today, because we don't have that today" and "Usually the kids meal comes with a side of macaronni, but we are out of that and are serving cole slaw instead."

Tilapia is the funniest kind of "fish." I work in a fish market in the summers, and Tilapia is ever so popular with the tourists. It tastes like flounder, is dirt cheap for the fish mongers, but has an extremely high mark up b/c of its exotic name, and I think people just like saying "tilapia." It's farm raised (re: the Frankenstein of fish) down in the Philippines area and is fed its own dung for nourishment. For example, we buy it for about 2.50 per lb, sell it raw for 10.99/lb, and tilapia cooked dinners start at 19.99.

The Coral Reef was excellent back in July of 2000, but I have since heard that it has gone down the tubes since then, based on personal reactions I read and hear about.

I - and the other member of my party - were not impressed with Mama Melrose's at all, especially with the package for the fireworks. There was little to pick from on the menu, and the food was mediocre at best.

Tony's Pizza had MUCH better Italian food if that's what you're looking for.

Otherwise, I didn't eat at anything else you mentioned, so I'm sorry I don't have more of an opinion...other than...

At the Yacht Club Galley, the food isn't that amazing for the price, where as the Cape May Cafe is a lot better (IMO). Everyone seems to be against Coral Reef, but I went in August and enjoyed my experience there a lot! Also, I would suggest Chef Mickey's at the Contemporary (if you haven't been there already) it's a character dinner and a buffet and it's on the DDP. I love it there!

As to the Tilapia - it's not so much because of the taste of Tilapia that so many diners like it and its on so many menus -- it because it is one of the few fish you can eat as much as you like on diets like Medical Weight Loss etc. It is hugely popular because it is one of those "approved" lo carb, lo fat, lo calorie, lo everything foods. Also, it has no taste of fish, so it tastes better to those who don't like seafood.

Everyone seems to be against Coral Reef, but I went in August and enjoyed my experience there a lot!

I am sorta *obligated* to eat at Coral Reef, as my husband is an avid scuba diver, and it's the closest he will get to diving in WDW! (He doesn't want to use up a whole day, or else he would've signed up for the Epcot dive.)

Character Breakfast.

We've almost done them all. Crystal Palace is THE ONE that gets the vote though. Best food. Great entertainment (you actually get to see the characters). Lower prices. We still have to go to 1900 Park Fare. It might win though. Can't believe we waited til last for this. Anybody else have a Breakfast they think is HANDS DOWN better than any of the rest?

Chef Mickey -- We didn't see any characters. We were paying the bill when the first came up. We sat around for another 20 min for the second. Never saw the other four. And the food is bottom rung.

Ohana -- Easily 2nd on the list now. Pineapple bread VERY YUMMY! Charaters and games fun, but still to big and barely catch all the characters in the meal.

Princess at Epcot -- Wishing for more variety in food, maybe open up the cold bar too.

Jimbo, we really like the crystal palace, too. There is just something about the light in the restaurant & of course the food is good & the characters all come around. We, too, are trying 1900 Park Fare for the first time this trip, I think that the kids will really enjoy it. We are also trying Cape May for the first time & have heard really good things about it.

Had an excellent meal at Tusker's; was not impressed with the Fantasmic special menu at Mama Melroses, wasn't much to choose from - if you haven't already, check out their menu at allearsnet.
Chef Mickey's was a bit of a letdown for me, too; not as good as I remebered from our last trip.
Our two favorite meals were Raglan's in DDT, and The Rose & Crown in Epcot
