Hey,

I'm new to this forum, and when I searched I couldn't find anything about this. So forgive me if it has been covered.

But I was wondering, Has anyone's school ever denied them to do the Disney College Program??
As far as I know right know my school doesn't have the Disney CP anymore. But I'd love to interview this upcoming spring for it. And if schools do say No, is there anyway to still be part of it??

Many Thanks in Advance for any advice you all can give me!
And CONGRATS to everyone who gets to be part of the CP :) Woohoo

Robin,

Where do you go to school? What exactly do you mean by won't let you do it? What's the reason you think they may not let you?

Just because your school doesn't have a presentation doesn't mean you can't go (at least on Disney's part). Is that what you are worried about? I think Disney makes the decision of where and where not to do presentations.

Your school may not give you credit. You should still be able to go if you don't get credit. You may have to take a leave of absence. That's what I had to do. Your catalog should have something in there about taking a leave.

I'll try and help get you some better answers once I know a little more about your situation. Just post on here, PM, IM, or e-mail me.

I could be wrong, but I don't think your school has much say in whether or not you participate in the Program--the Program is a separate entity, and don't need any permission from a student's school to accept them.

Your school can choose whether or not you can receive credit on the Program--they may even be able to decide whether or not you can re-enroll after doing the Program (although I would serously doubt it)....but unless I've missed something, they can do absolutely nothing to keep you from participating.

edit: Yeah, what Brent said. :)

Thank you BOTH :)

Hey,

Thank you both for replying!!! And so quickly.

I read on my schools website they only support two majors to do the Disney Program. (Management and Recreation) And I'm a Theatre Major. So I didn't know if that meant I was not allowed to try for the program.

I mean I still have a long time to find out, but it's really a dream of mine to do the Disney Program. I wanted to interview for this upcoming Spring but I was in my Schools production of The Secret Garden, so I didn't have an opportunity.

Anyways I'm babbling. But thank you both again for responding so quickly. It really made my night sooo much better to see that basically the school can not say who can participate. I suppose what my school means is only those two majors will get credit for it.

Thank you!

Hey Robin! Welcome to WDWMagic! :) My school didn't have a presentation. I actually had to travel a little over 2 hours to get to the presentation. I am a Photography major, so our major doesn't have anything to do with being accepted. The school shouldn't say no. Sometime go talk to your advisor at your college about it. My school had NO info on the College Program. I had to do it all! haha. I say go for it! If its something you really want to do, check the site for a presentation near you! And let us know how it goes! :D

It sounds like your school supports getting credit for management and recreation. If the school's website has a contact person about the program, contact them and get some more info. It doesn't sound like you can't try for the program to me.

Also, it seems that most professors/departments have to be the ones that give approval for credit. Talk to your theatre professors about getting some credit.

I only know a few theatre majors that have done the CP, but I think they all got placed into a on-stage, heavy guest contact role. You might be able to get some credit just for being in a role like that with major guest contact because of your major.

Robin-
My school doesn't support the CP as an internship. I need a formal internship before completing my degree and in my program (Tourism, ironically) they kept telling me no, but they really had no good reasons. So, I printed out looooots of info from the website (like, 75 pages), organized in a binder and made an appointment with the Chairman of my department. I pleaded my case and (short of begging) told her that this is what is right for ME and if they don't let anyone else do it, fine, but please give me the opportunity. She eventually said yes, and I'm on my way. It's sort of on a trial basis, if it goes well with me then they may allow others to do it as an internship as well. Other than that, the options are to register for up to 6 hours of what IU calls "practicum" or to just take the semester off, but both of those options pose problems with insurance and full time student status, etc...If you have any questions, let me know.
