The past 2 days, I've been downloading the movie, "Song of the South" on avi format. It finally finished today and when I try to play it, it says "connecting to codec server" and then after it tries to connect, it says "Error downloading codec server". It starts playing, but w/o any video, just audio. Is there anything I can do to fix this problem w/o having to download another version of the movie? Thanks, guys!

Where did you download SOTS?!!   :)

I don't know what the problem is....:( Why don't you check to see if there are any updates/patches, etc. to the media software you use to play the .avi file... Perhaps the website will help with a free upgrade:)

That's an ignorant remark. In this case it's very apparent that you just stuck your foot in your mouth. Song of the South has never, and propably never will be released in America.

I know this is gonna make y'all sick...but my inlaws found a VHS copy of Song of the South at a flea market. It was a great copy with a very nice homemade case taken from the original artwork. It was $20!!!

Too bad this film is lost forever to the general public. I watched it as critically as possible for a white male, and although I can understand the racial insensitivites, it was the freakin 1940s! And given that the climax of the movie is Uncle Remus taking the hand of a white child, with the interlocking hands filling the screen, magically bringing the child back from apparent death, I would say the movie was pretty progressive for its day.
Funny how no one seems to be upset about "Gone With the Wind" or old "Amos and Andy" radio tapes.

That's the same thing I've been saying for the past 11 years (since the first time I rode Splash mountain). Why, exactly, are they not releasing the film? Is it b/c it portrays slaves? If that's the case, slaves are portrayed in a great deal of other movies and those other movies have been released and televised. :( :veryconfu

I wish I had seen this thread earlier... hope you didn't delete that file. What I am about to say works for 99% of problem files I have downloaded.

Download this and do a full install and then uncheck the bicubric resizer and G400 filters (or your vid will play upside down)

Nimo Codec Pack

Give it a try.. it almost always fixes the video/sound in files I download that won't play.
