FWIW, the 2029 opening date has been scrubbed from the Pixar announcement and the Disney press release no longer has it either. Hopefully at Destination D23 we get official timelines for Avengers and Coco.

Wow they really need to get it together. Why does this stuff happen with them all the time lately?

Disney should not wait for the sequel success. Just build the fume ride for Coco.

If they wait to see how the sequel does this ride wouldn’t open until 2033 at the earliest. I just think they wouldn’t be able to resist the temptation of the synergy from the ride and movie being released together. They also confirmed that the attraction would be based on the original story right?

I think they’re waiting to see if the sequel does well before they begin construction at all.

It’s more a question of whether they’ve planned the release of the movie to coincide with the opening of the ride. Especially if the ride includes characters/settings/etc from the sequel. Like how the updates smugglers run will open the same weekend as the Mandalorian movie

Disney mentioned that construction wouldn’t start for Coco until 2026 when they made the announcement.

I was wondering if y'all think they'll include any story elements from the sequel? I don't think they'll wait to see how it does but I do wonder if they'll plan to have anything from the sequels worked in.

Also I don't remember seeing anywhere that it would be an original story, but that would definitely be my preference

I think they mentioned or at least alluded to it being a retelling of the first film IIRC. I think after Tiana they probably want to stick to the original story as much as possible. But doesn’t necessarily rule out the presence of some new characters or music.

It's harder to do a retelling of a specific story in a rethemed log flume. Building it ground up gives them much more freedom to do so.

I hope it's more like a journey into the land of the dead than a book report

The tariffs are making me nervous for coco and avatar. Construction prices are going to be going through the roof. Hope we don't have another Disney decade situation where they made all the fun announcements and then little ever makes it off the drawing board.

Yeah if a recession hits and things don't recover we can count on a lot of cancellations

Thankfully they will be tried in court and hopefully shot down. Then come 2027 if Dems retake the house and expand the senate even slightly, they can cancel out the tariffs If trump defies the court.

As for Avatar, James Cameron will put his foot down to make sure it gets built.

I think a creative like Cameron or JK Rowling can put their foot down to ensure the details are right, but they can't dictate a multi-national company's capital expenditure if the economy is tanked
