CM Housing?

I've heard that Disney had built apartment complexes for CM's. Where exactly are these? And does Disney make their CM's pay rent, or at least at a discount, and if so, how much do they charge? I would imagine that rent is deducted from their paychecks... am I right?

I had a friend that did the college program, which is similar to an internship but you're just working in the parks/resorts etc. They(Disney) have complexes for those on the program to stay at. But i think that's it. That local economy though is co-dependent on WDW primarily, so i would think all those complexes around Disney/Kissimmee have competitive rents based on the incomes of Disney employees.

They are ugly purple buildings that are appartments for the people in the college program. 4 to an appartment. These are located off the property not too far from the Crossroads shopping area near the Village resorts. They pay very little for their rent (like $25/week) but are they are only paid very little as well. They have transportation to and from the parks at different times of the day for CM's.

From what I hear from all of my friends who have stayed there, it's a lot like college but more naughtiness and drinking. :veryconfu

Actually, the apartments hold 2-8 people, and depending on how many bedrooms, they cost $67-$79 a week. Vista Way, Chatham Square, and the Commons, which are primarily for international workers. And as far as I know, they're not all purple and ugly.

I would say there is a fair share of partying-but you take away from the experience what you put into it, IMO.

I lived in Chatham Square apartments during my WDW College Program in 2001. I lived with three other roommates during my six-month stay. The apartment complex was brand new when I was there and they were some of the nicest apartments that I have ever been in!!

I am now applying for a management internship for the fall 2004 in food an beverage. Has anyone participated in this internship? I would love to learn more about it!!

I was only going by what I heard from previous interns. :)

I too participated in 2001. Construction was still going on, but I think the Spring 2001 program was the 2nd semester of housing CPs.

I applied for a F&B management internship for this past fall. I didn't get it, but it took several calls and emails to finally get a decision.

Apparently there are still several people that still haven't heard about the ones they applied for in the fall.

I believe that if given the chance, you do have to find your own housing, as company housing is only for CPs and AIs.

Cool. But why would they build it "off property"? Disney owns the Crossroads plaza and its land, though it is a plot that extends out of the main property, and its borders are actually Disney propert boarders.

Where exactly is it? Is it on 535? If so, North or South of Crossroads? Does Disney own the property? Was it part of the original Disney World property, or on land Disney purchased in recent years?

Has Disney purchased (or sold) any land since Disney World opend? I know they traded development rights (to build Celebrations on land that was supposed to be a nature preserve for environmentally sensitive land land that Disney saved from development in the 1990's).

I don't think that any of the complexes are owned by Disney.

This is true of the buildings but the land under them belongs to Disney just like the land under the Swan and Dolphin is owned by Disney. THis is true for Chatham and the Commons for sure. Vista Way on the other hand I am not so sure the buildings aren't also owned by Disney.
