On a recent trip, I recall browsing through the shop, and I happen to snag the beginning of "Peculiar Penguins". I thought I would stop for a moment and watch the beginning of the short. Several minutes in, an overly enthusiastic toddler came with his parents to also see the short. So I was thoroughly amused at his ravings and gasps of excitement over the characters and the story. Nearby, a CM happen to also watch the short with us, since she had no guest to attend to. She was also having a swell time with the film's action and the kid's endearing comments.
Then a family of several kids happen to stop by and notice the screen. The children were also interested in the short and asked their parents if they may watch it. Yes, the parents complied. The CM took this opportunity to ask if anyone wanted to watch the short with her. Before you can say "Mickey Mouse", a small group of children were sitting on the carpeted floor, fixated on the screen. One child even grabbed her bucket of popcorn to munch on while enjoying the cartoon film. And who should be sitting cross legged on the floor, laughing along with them, was the Main Street Cast Member.
Maybe this happens often and I am oblivious to it, but it was something that I never saw before at the MK, and it made me realize that that's the magic of Disney. Behind the "work" and "construction", it is the enthusiasm of the CMs. One does not see this surreal moment whilst hastily browsing or whining about a lost balloon or lamenting about arriving too early for FastPass use. It is something of a rarity when one finds such a moment nowadays. It's something that I probably would not ever see again, and I actually ended up savouring the sight for the rest of the short. So yes, it is a small gesture of joyful gaiety, but it really made my day at the Kingdom of Magic. And I want thank that CM for her simplistic yet wonderful act of kindness.
