Trip Report Climbing the Summit-An Everest Challenge 2014 Report

Hello! I just got back from a four-day three-night non-stop trip to the World for my graduation! It was just my dad and I, and it was so much fun!

We arrived on May 2nd from Philadelphia, and it took us FIVE hours to get there. We had tons of delays. We landed to rainy weather in Orlando. Once we finally got through to Magical Express we were greeted by large groups of cheerleaders coming to compete in the Summit competition. Disney had a lot on their plate this weekend!

Getting onto Magical Express wasn't that bad. While on it, my dad and I were trying to check our fastpasses and we had trouble on the app. We finally found them. We later found out the mymagic+ system was down for a while that day, un-linking tickets and resorts.

We arrived at Pop! Century Resort. We have never stayed at Pop! before. We checked in and they gave me this button:

I put it on immediately.

We got our room, and we went up to drop off our stuff. Our room was a mess. The carpet was definitely not vacuumed, there was food and dirt everywhere. My dad and I had to pick up some of the dirt. There was also baby powder on the bathroom floor, and food in the drawers. We were not impressed, but the room made do overall.

Since it was raining, we decided to go to packet pick-up for the Everest Challenge. It was at ESPN Wide World of Sports across the street. At the bus stop at Pop, there was a sign with directions for transportation, but not where to get the buses. We waited by the sign, and when a bus came, we had to chase it all the way down to the far side. Disney definitely could have done a better job with signs.

Once we got on the bus, we rode to ESPN, where we were dropped off in a random lot and we had to walk to the baseball stadium. In the pouring rain. Packet Pick-Up was organized and we didnt stay that long. I did win a Fit2Run tee shirt though!

After packet pick up, we went back to POP and then got on a bus to EPCOT!

After the race, we were in bed between 1:30 and 2 AM. We woke up around 9 and got ready to go to the Magic Kingdom!

Once we ate at Pop and got ready, it was around 10 AM when we got to the buses. It was SO crowded. Families, schools, cheer teams, Everest Challenge people. It took 3 buses for us to finally get on one. It was a zoo at the front entrance as well. We were not really in a line, and were bounced between two. The cast members running the gates were having so much trouble, the ipads and magicbands were not working well. They kept raising their hands (lamely, and none of the technicians could see them). It took 15 minutes just to get into the park. Finally, we were in and walked down Main Street. I saw the castle, got excited and cried a little. We decided to start in Adventureland, with the Jungle Cruise (which I never have ridden). It was about a 45 minute wait. The line moved well. While in the queue that surpassed the entrance to the ride, lots of people had strollers in line. A VERY crumpy Cast Member was trying to explain you could not bring the stroller, but most people were ignoring her. Another happier CM came a long and basically took all the strollers and parked them for the people, who were trying to play really dumb. The amount of ignorant people and cranky CM's was awful. I felt so bad for the CMs. And some people really needed to re-look at their attitudes. YOU ARE IN DISNEY WORLD!!!

Ok sorry end of rant.

Next, we went on Pirates, and it was about a 15 minute wait. Lots and lots of flash photography, which drives me crazy!! Your pictures probably won't turn out, and just ENJOY the moment and be present! Again, I apologize for the rants. I'm an 18 year old girl, and I can put my Iphone down for the length of a ride, you can too!!

After Pirates, we went on the Train to go to Fantasyland. It was a nice relaxing break, especially because I was so tired! We walked around and went into Gaston's tavern, where we got hummus and chips and water.

After Gaston's we went into the big top to look at treats.

Olaf is so cute!!

We continued to walk around Fantasyland, checking out the 7 dwarves new home!! I was begging the CM's to go on, they just smiled.

Notice the 150 Minute wait for Anna and Elsa-and it kept crawling up!!

We made our way over to Rapunzel's area (my favorite). It is so beautifully done and just amazing!

We started to make our way over to BTMRR for our fastpass.

The wait was about 15-20 minutes. What a great ride!

After that we made our way back to Liberty Place for the Parade. I saw the videos and pictures online and could not wait to see it myself. We got to a spot with about 10 minutes to spare, and I ended up with a good view in the end, because we were near a walk way!

After the parade we used our Haunted Mansion FastPass. Again it was about 15-20 minute wait. After the Haunted Mansion we had a Space Mountain Fastpass. That was a 10 minute max wait. It was so fun. After, we rode Carousel of Progress (again a first for me-and a great rest!). And TTA, another good rest. We then went over to BOG for our ADR. This was my second meal at BOG. I ate there the day after Thanksgiving in 2012.

Waiting...There was a water cart on the bridge, which I thought was a nice touch.

We were called in, and greated by a lovely host. Our table for two was right outside the Master's greeting area.

I ordered Ratatouille, while my father had the steak. Mine was just ok, while my dad's was of course delicious.

For dessert, I had the Grey Stuff on a Tart

Our waitress also brought me a little extra for graduation!

We finished and met the master and left.

We went back to Main Street to find presents for my Mom and sisters. While there we got Starbucks. A Half-Calf to share, I was stuffed!!

After we got Starbucks and the presents, we went off again. We rode Small world, watched Philharmagic and rode the carousel. We also got our fireworks spot on the bridge in FLE. I saw that 7 dwarves was running, with PEOPLE!! Then I realized they were cast members. I got so sad. Watching the fireworks there on the bridge was great though, fire works were all around you and it was really fun!

After fireworks, we got water from Frair Nooks, and the girl was from PA. We talked to her, and she gave me a free cookie for Graduation!
I was exhausted at this point. But, it was EMH and I really wanted to get as much as I could done. So, we went to Buzz. In line, my stomach started to kill me. The Ratatouille did not agree with me. We rode buzz and sadly left the park. I was super sad.

Up next: DHS, Last Day, coming home, and final thoughts!

I arrived for EEC on the day of and let me just say, never again lol. Got to packet pick up around 230pm and cheerleaders everywhere and it was so busy! No joke, took about 1.5 hours to get out of wwos due to traffic backup. I stayed at AKL which had a rundisney pickup sign right out front of the resort and had signs in the lobby with a big map and another sign so it was labeled really good there plus the cms knew the basic stuff (bus pickup and times). If going to ever run EEC I'd suggest staying at AKL for sure. It's right next to AK which was really nice especially after the race. The race itself was a first for this one and it was a lot of fun, I def recommended it plus the rain just made it more fun :) I left around 130am as well and the busses were running pretty frequent. They weren't normal wdw busses but still nice and roomie

Well done on your first Disney Run!!! I've signed up for my first one this year only mine is a HALF MARATHON! We decided to go for the Wine and Dine half in November.

I'm really excited though, every trip report I've read of them seems really positive!

Looking forward to the rest of your TR.

I wanted to do a half so bad but it was decided a 5k was a better start for not being a runner. Good luck, I cannot wait to hear about your trip!!

DHS, The Last Day, I'm so exhausted its pathetic Day

We had Fastpasses for Rocking Roller Coaster, Tower of Terror, and Star Wars

We woke up and got our usual sharing breakfast combo. We went back to the room and packed :(
We then waited in the RIDICULOUSLY long line for bag storage. It took them about ten minutes for each group they were storing bags for. It was awful. We made sure we had our essentials and went to DHS via bus. The line was ok, but I felt like I picked each park on its busiest day. Oh well.

We went on Rocking Rollin Coaster first.
The line was moving and it was a great ride, as usual.

After the ride, we had some time to kill before our Tower of Terror fastpass, so we walked around. I had got graduation ears earlier in the trip, so I got them embroidered with my name. They changed the embroidery process a lot and the sweet elderly lady who helped me was so funny.
We continued to wonder around as we waited, and decided we had enough time to ride the Backlot Tour.
It was an ok ride. Entertaining.
When we were done, it was time for ToT!
I love the pre-show and everything about it. It is such a great ride.
When we were done that, we moved on to Muppets and the backlot. We watched Muppets, which was a great nap time. We went into some shops and decided to get lunch at the Studios Catering Inc. We used our last 2 Quick Services, and some how these bad boys were included in our meal.

So good, but I was so stuffed! I don't really remember what I got for lunch, but I do remember it filling me.

After lunch, it was time for Star Wars. After Star Wars, we knew there was no chance for Toy Story, so we picked up my ears and slowly exited the park, while looking at all the shops of course. Finally, we walked out the gates, and walked to the buses. I got so sad. Another Disney trip done. And I don't know when my next one is.

We returned to Pop! with around 2 hours to spare before our bus came to take us to the airport. We walked around everything Pop! about 50 times.

Where I debated buying these...I'll save it for when I'm the class of 2018!
After sitting and sitting the bus came and we went to MCO to return to Philly. I watched Frozen on the way home and cried a bit. Another trip done! :(

Final Thoughts:

Overall, it was a GREAT trip! My dad thought the hotel could have been a little better, but we only have deluxe resorts to compare to. I thought Pop! was great for all we needed for this trip, I'm not sure how it would have worked if it was my entire family of five. I thought the dining plan was a good choice for us. The crowds were high though, so make sure you check what else is going on in the world when you book. I thought that Everest would be the main draw, but the cheer comp and lots of toddler aged kids families were also in the park.

I HIGHLY recommend the RunDisney race. It is so fun. I cannot wait to run my next one.

Thank you so much for reading!!

Great report, thank you for the time you spent sharing it with us. It's always a sad day when you have to leave Disney to go home but just think there is always next trip :p!!

Sounds like fun! My sister runs but I don't. However, I have become interested in running a runDisney race. So, my sister and I are planning a sister's trip in late 2015 or early 2016 to run my first ever 5k at Disney. Congrats on your graduation!

Thank you!!! I am not a huge runner by any means. I highly recommend it.
