Hrm... the two Native American teams at one place...

The Cleveland Indians may soon be coming to Disney World. The Indians have held spring training in Winter Haven since 1993. They are in the third year of a 5-year agreement but are exploring other markets.

Disney and Osceola County are trying to get the club to join the Atlanta Braves for Spring Training at Disney's Wide World of Sports.

County officials will meet with Disney executives next week to discuss the plan.

They will need to figure out how many extra practice fields are needed and whether to build another stadium or expand the existing one.

This is good for Disney because it equals more money... this is good for the Indians because it equals more money through more availability to fans, as well as better fields... but this is bad for Winter Haven because then they'll just have Cypress Gardens near by to draw in tourists :lookaroun That's big business for ya!:drevil:

Oh dear! When I read the title, I thought you meant that they were somehow moving permanently. I don't think Cleveland could take the loss of another sports team! We did eventually get the Browns back, but those akward in-between years were kinda bleak.

Now, moving to Disney for spring training...hey, I kind of like that idea.

I thought the same thing! Don't scare us Clevelanders like that! I don’t mind either way where they hold spring training.

No complaints from this Clevelander if the Tribe moves to Disney for Spring Training. Cleveland fans travel very well for Spring Training, so I could see why Disney would be interested (among other reasons).

No complaints from Braves fans either if they can build another field for them. The Indians are the only team the Braves can beat in the post season. I dont know how happy the Braves would be if they have to share the existing stadium. The Braves got out of that situation by moving their spring training facilities to Disney. They had been sharing a stadium with the Expos (now Nationals) in West Palm Beach.

I don’t think Disney will be building another stadium. Pre season baseball probably doesn’t make enough money to justify the cost to build another one. Disney is probably looking for another team to bring into the existing stadium to play on days when the Braves are on the road.

I thought the same thing. My hubbie is from the Cleveland area and would probably cry if they moved. Although, we spend more time visiting FL then we do visiting Ohio.

It will certainly benefit Disney since it will definitely draw more fans to the Wide World of Sports, plus it isn't so common for two teams to share a facility. I know the Cardinals and then Expos shared Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter, Florida for a few years.

Well you know, they did hint at moving the Tribe to Florida in a couple of Major League movies. ;)
