I don't know how to do italics. Maybe you only see that on a real computer and not the iPad?

As a kid, we had a typewriter that my grandma had given us. You could see the mechanism thrust the key forward and bang it on the paper. It also had a return bar. You had to lift your hand off the keys, reach up, push the thing in two clicks and push it over. We used carbon paper and correcting squares.

When computers first showed up with their "backspace" to fix things and the almighty word wrap, I thought I'd died and gone to heaven, typing-wise.

I'd rather type on my iPad and not underline books than go back to the way we once had to type!!

I wish I could show my grandma an iPad. :)

The quick button does not show on the iPad, but italics is done by putting the words inside (i)these tages(/i) but you need to replace the parentheses () with brackets []. Replace "i" with a "b" for bold or a "u" for underline.

Lincoln (2012) is superb - and gives you a pretty good view of how the Civic War affected everyone top to bottom and the politics behind trying to end it.
Shenandoah (1965) is a fine film about the Civil War from the point of view of one family.
