I second that move to Lakeland!
I also live in Lakeland and its a great place to live. Lots of nice people and great places, not to metion you are an hour or less away from the world (just depending on traffic). And thanks for the pics.

If you think the fence is bad there, what about when they move to the main areas of the park? It's hard enough to get around now (especially during parade time) but if they have to close off big areas to get at pipes it'll be a nightmare getting anywhere!

And what's wrong with Winter Haven? We bought a house here 6 years ago and have no compaints - it's exactly 35 minutes to WDW, how long's it take from Lakeland?! All of Central Florida is a big change from NY though, but a good change if you ask me. It has a small town feel but Tampa, Orlando and the beaches aren't more than an hour away!

Add me to the list of the people crying "bad show". I mean, come on. This is Disney for crying out loud. It's the King of show, and surely they could have found something that struck a balance between show and animal safety, whether it be burlap, etc. I'm disappointed at that going on. I can't imagine going on an "Authentic African Safari" and seeing  chain-link fence! BAD SHOW! :fork:

Trust me, the fence is the least, the very least objectionable part of the project. It's dark, blends in some.

But stacks of bright white pvc pipes? And how about a 5x5x5 Pump? And a deep & growing pit in the ground?

Everest is looking great. I love the tall pointed peaks rising out of the junle foliage. The peaks are really starting to show up better now that there is less scaffolding and more concrete. This is gonna be a GREAT ride.

Interesting that a single fence can cause so much stress.

You've missed the point, I'm afraid. The fence causes no stress at all.

But there's much more going on in the middle of an operating attraction than a fence. It's a construction zone, with the requisite machinery and supplies that you would expect. And there's no effort to conceal or explain what all the guests are looking at. The only thing you notice is the trucks speeding up to get past it.

And from the numerous interactions I've had, the CMs are pretty stressed and embarassed about it - and they're the ones I tend to pay attention to.

I guess it would be ok if TOT operated for six weeks with the lights on during the transition area to the drop zone so guests could look at a cement mixer and a pallette or two of concrete.

Pretty simple really. It's a project that has to be done. It's being done at night. Cover it as best you can when the trucks are rolling.

I drove around the inside perimiter of AK this morning and took notice to the stacks of pipes that are there. Let me tell you ... if the amount of pipes stacked is any indication, then this construction will be going on for quite some time. Of course, Im sure that guests will only see a very small amount of construction because they see a very small portion of the savanah which is MUCH larger than what the trucks go through. Anyway... this is definitely neccessary, and that "growing pit" in the ground is just one of a number of sink holes that have developed as a result of the bad drainage. So im sure that we would rather suffer the bad show of a few fences, trucks, and pipes instead of suffer the indefinite closure of a great attraction.

Little update to the fence….It appears that a small addition has been added to the fence that doesn’t make it look so out of place. A small sign has been added to the gate that says Haramebe University or Institute (sorry no pic) implying that there is a research project going on inside of the fence. This very minor detail seems to be working the family in front of me was wondering what kind of research they were doing, which kind of made me chuckle a little but I’m glad to see a minor change made a difference.
