Hi Everyone...
3 days at the World finished. 3 more to go.

I posted my Garden Grill review already. Soarin' was an excellent ride. A lot of fun. I just don't understand why they filmed DisneyLand at Christmas time. It seems weird and kind of out of sync with the rest of the film.

I would like to send a big THANK YOU :sohappy: to CM Greg at Soarin'. We chatted for a few seconds about how Soarin' is only running on 1 theater right now. When I mentioned that I had online (here) that Stitch was also only running on one, he gave me a FastPass Ticket for Stitch. :) That was Very Nice of him. I will be using it tonight when we go to MK.

Yesterday I went to Animal Kingdom. On the Safari right in the Middle of the Savanah there was this Fence.

Talk about bad show.. couldn't they hid it with some brush or something?

Here's a picture from the Africa bridge of the Everest Construction:

Resort Comment:
We are staying at the Saratoga Springs resort. On Monday afternoon I took my son to the main pool here to use the 'Slide'. When you are 12 years old Slides are important. Anyway the pool area was at about 90% capacity. This is concerning since the resort is only have built. I don't want to think about what this pool is going to look like when they have the whole resort finished.

Today we are going to drive around Lakeland for a bit. We are comtemplating a Move from NY to FL and right now we have pick Lakeland as the place to buy some Land and build our dream house. :D

Have a Magical Day!

This is just guessing but with regards to the fence, chain link it probably all they can put up and not risk harming the animals. Chain link fence is about the only thing that the grazing animals in the savannah won’t eat. So why it might look bad for a few days the safety and health of the animals greatly out weighs a little “Bad Show”.

thanks for the update......... you didnt know that they have fences in Savanahs............. they must be painted to match the grass because i never see them on National Geographic explorations. :D

Wow - a fence in its natural environment  - not often you see one like that. Seriously though - a bit disappointing considering Disneys usual attention to detail.
Thanks for the update

Jeez... cut 'em some slack. The safety of the animals is much more important than a temporary fence causing bad show. As soon as they are done, they will remove the fence and the "detail" will be fine.

Cindy_k, thanks for taking the time to post the pics!

Cindy - thank goodness someone with a camera finally got this posted. Unfortunately, the pics don't do justice to how obtrusive this project is. Even though it's preferable that KS remain open while this is underway, this mess is a complete scene wrecker.
I first posted on this topic on April 11, at which time the project was already two weeks underway, so it's not just a matter of a few days - we're at a month now, with no end in sight.

I admit to having a major bug up my butt about this, but I don't apologize for it. We talk to CMs on every visit and they are unanimously embarassed by this mess, and frustrated. Ten days ago, we spoke with two supervisors who expressed surprise that a show quality crew hadn't dealt with it, and they promised to talk with the park duty manager at their next opportunity.

It's absolutely true that the animals will nibble at most anything, and their safety is paramount. However, burlap cloth is routinely used as a barrier (with no ill effect apparently), to condition new animals on places they shouldn't go, and it's entirely within their reach. Surely this could be used inside the fence to cover equipment, as only giraffes could conceivably get at it there.

Ok, rant over - for now.

It's been more than a month.

I went to AK on March 19, and it was there. I had already heard of the change of route so it was no big deal to me. I also thought it might be because of the drainage issues. Seeing a little construction is no big deal, as much as we want to be in this "fantasyland", we need to realize things like this need to get done. So use your "Imagination", and imagine a patch of grass there.

When I was working at KSR last year, I always told myself and my friends if they had to do work, they would need to close down the attraction......BUT, they will not. KSR is the #1 attraction at Animal Kingdom and the leads at the attraction will do anything to keep it open 24/7.

We had a flood there last year in the end waterfall scene, and 2/3 the trucks had their sound fried ... yep, they still kept it open, putting two people per truck with one screaming out the facts. They don't really get how bad it is for show and the experience ... they just want high numbers of guest flow thru the safari.

Personally, I'm glad that they made the effort. I know I'd be upset if the attraction was closed outright.

Bad show is sometimes better than no show, especially when you're talking about the crown jewel of a park that many people already have problems with.

Thanks for the info - wasn't aware the project went back quite that far.

Unfortunately, what you saw in March is nothing like what you see today. The large pieces of machinery and the gaping hole are features that were added in April.

I'd also add that on Sunday, April 24, a pair of soft vinyl drainage hoses (probably 10" diameter) stretched across the open savanna, from the project site to near the base of the ancient Bayobob. One was bright yellow, one bright blue. Since they're not in the photos, I hope that means they're gone.

I take it on faith that this is an absolutely necessary project - no objection to that. But since the work is only done when KS isn't operating, some steps could/should be taken to do a little camouflage.

This just can't be imagined away.

While we are at it couldn't they do something about that ugly mountain they are building. The least they could do is hide Expedition Everest until its finished.

Funny I didn't even see the fence when I was there on vacation 4/9 to 4/19. I'll have to go through the approx. 30 pictures I took during the Safari and see if I just missed it.

Regarding SSR. While it will only have the one main pool, I believe 5 other quiet pools are being built. Unfortunately none of those will have a slide. WL was the same way during my vacation. The main pool was packed. Since my 3 year old daughter wasn't interested in the slide, we started using the quiet pool in front of the villas. BWV weren't bad, crowd wise.

We saw this for the first time last week, and it's impossible to overstate what really really bad show this is.

Yeah, obviously a project that has to be done, but cover it up during the day. Sort of like going to the Hall of Presidents and finding Washington with his shirt off so they can lube his elbows.

And yeah, as stated earlier, CMs I talked to are horrified by the mess.

The comparison to EE doesn't work, apples and oranges.

What animals are in that area? Any rhinos?

It's by the Tommies if I can remember correctly... across from the giraffes and zebras I think... I haven't been on it since March when I saw it there... it's on the passenger side (right if looking forward) of the truck...
