Cilantro

If it is a topping or something they add in to the dish once it is ordered it should be easy to keep it out for you. I have a love hate relationship with it myself. Ordered a dish at Rainforest Cafe and it was loaded with it, now I can only eat cilantro in small amounts for sure!

I tend to not order items that specifically list cilantro in the descriptions, unless it's something that really looks good otherwise and it says that the dish is "topped" with cilantro, or something to that effect. That is an ingredient that can easily be omitted. Now, if the dish is served with cilantro-seasoned rice, or some other item where the cilantro is likely cooked in and done so well in advance, I don't even bother.

It never hurts to ask the server, of course, but in my experience, a lot of cilantro problems lie in the mass preparation process. By that point, you're stuck with it. I feel your pain, though. I will choke down a little cilantro, but too much will ruin a meal for me. I can't stand the stuff.

Took me forever to learn to enjoy Cilantro, always tasted "soapy" to me but I've learned to love it, can't enjoy salsa without. If you hate it tell them you are allergic and they will make sure to steer you clear of it :cautious:, I hope I don't get flamed for that suggestion....

Yup, That's the main beef with people who hate it, It's soapy or taste like dirty gym socks (seems like two opposite ends of the spectrum but hey) . The link to I hate cilantro had some pretty interesting info (for a foodie) as to why something I find so delicious is the bane of other's food existence.

I grow it too, amongst others herbs. But totally agree, it is an acquired taste, and too much of it, or paired in the wrong type of dish can be disastrous.

I only eat it in salsas and certain other dishes. Very few.

Cilantro definitely is an acquired taste. If it is something on top of an entree I'm sure they can hold it out but if its already in a sauce etc. not sure they will be able to.

Any chefs/cooks here?

No reason they just won't put it in if someone makes that request, right? I always thought most fresh herbs are added to dishes near the end or at least later in certain recipes so they are more fresh and not cooked to long or wilted? I guess it depends on the dish?
