Chum "Animatronic?"

The angler fish AA is simply awesome. I am gussing that they use a robotic arm, similar to the ones used in automated manufacturing plants. It does some amazing things.

Yep, thats exactly what I use, how do I know? I always get an inconsiderate riding in the clam next to me who feels that he needs to take flash pictures of this ride. So I've seen it lit up fully from the flash bulbs going off....

It's my understanding that Chum, when fully operational, came close enough to the Clamobiles to create a safety hazard.

Yep.
During test/adjust they couldn't get it to come out in a way that was:
a) Not overly frightening
b) Too far into the ride path

Hence...Chum just sits there.

I'm surprised that they couldn't find a setting somewhere between his current catatonic state and a scarier, lunging-at-guests setting. There's no happy medium? Weird. Maybe this ride is just that confined.

It IS kinda small in there. And Chum ain't a very advanced device.

You know, there are alot of inconsiderate that dont understand the sentence "and there is no flash photography on this attraction/in this theater."

I am almost to the point that they would take those who ignore the request and publically flog them.

I hate people who take flash pictures on rides, too!!! They're so annoying. Some people were taking them on Spaceship Earth, so you could see everything!

I just got back last night, and I found that to be a lot more true then in prior trips. We rode Pirates 3 and 7/8th times (long story there) and it seemed we always got stuck with somebody taking pictures in front of us, so that it blinded you every time they snapped. We also experienced it on Malestrom, SSE, nemo (both the ride and the show....but in the show they walk up to you and tell you to stop) etc etc.

We listened carefully and in Pirates and the Nemo Ride (what is the name of the ride anyway) they never say no flash photography. I guess they think it should be understood. But apparantly it's not. It's just annoying

I don't really understand how it would be frightening. I would like to see how quickly he must have come out in order for it to be frightening. Hopefully one day they will allow him to move. I think it's strange that he is the only thing that doesn't move aside from the scenary. Everyone expects him to be moving so he just looks broken now. Most kids handle the Haunted Mansion pop outs pretty well, and Chum wouldn't exactly be screaming like the heads in HM. Not complaining here, but I'm curious as to what he was supposed to be like.

I went into the attraction thinking it was just a minor addition. But, I loved it. It was one of the major things we couldn't wait to tell our 'disney group' about when we got home. What a pleasant surprise.

I couldn't agree more.

Sewin2Disney, I've had it happen before on Pirates where they actually came over the loudspeaker and told people to stop taking flash pictures, obviously in theme. Yea, it kinda ruins the experience a little bit, but overall, it makes for a much more enjoyable experience when you aren't getting blinded every 5 seconds.

I think the worst was when I went on Soarin' once. One person decided to take a picture of the screen, (I wonder how that morons picture came out, blank perhaps?) and sure enough, he started a chain reaction that resulted in a flash going off every 2 seconds. Sure enough the CM's had to announce over the loud speaker to stop, cutting off the music...

Is this ride okay for a 94 year old? She can handle Spaceship Earth.
Definitely. It moves the same speed as Haunted Mansion but the vehicles don't really turn like in HM. It's a pretty tame ride and if she can handle SSE she'd be more than fine here. SSE isn't exactly the smoothest ride and going down backwards is pretty uncomfortable sometimes.

We were there for the DVC/AP preview and absoltely loved the ride. I was curious about Chum and asked a CM about it being an animatronic. She explained that she was told it scared too many kids in the early demos and was on hold. It does not reduce the thrill of the ride for the little ones. My two girls (3 and 2) are always looking for Chum when we come around the corner. Animatronic or not..I think it works.

:sohappy: Pirates and Princesses on February 15th....YEAH!!!:sohappy:
